For a moment I thought, “do Adachi and company sound like they are speaking lingo a tad younger than their age?” And then I remember that their lingo is also my lingo: a millennial that hit their 30s.😂
And, to follow suit, Rokkaku (guy who says “Loner Police”) and Tsuge (dancer boy) are a generation younger, with Rokkaku in particular definitely sounding like he’s younger than me by like 8 years 🤣

I enjoyed the show 10 times more than the sub! And the sub (original Japanese) was already quite good! Thank god the comedy in the romantic comedy landed more for me in the English dub done for this show!!!
@@TitchTacsDefinitely would recommend people watch the English dub unless you have some pretty good familiarity with Japanese (like myself) and/or the original manga published in English by Square Enix.
And, yes, that Square Enix. They publish manga too :)
The original sub is still good. And I can pick up on the innate comedic tone of the Japanese since I’ve heard it so much and for so long (and also a tiny bit of serious study). That helps in my case. But the English dub absolutely gives a fun experience without having to read subtitles!

@@Visperine Briana could probably elaborate more, my exposure to the dub is this video so far. But the sub is definitely funny, because the source material is funny, but now I'm excited to watch the English sub, because it seems like it leans into the humor more with more American slang and touchpoints (like "gaslighting"), or maybe the subtlety is easier to catch for me in English. For example, the author friend yelling "FIE!" in this video, is super archaic, literary English that isn't really used anymore. Japanese has formal and literary forms that would probs sound funny spoken aloud to a native speaker. Maybe that happened during the sub, but even if I could distinguish them (which I can't) it would be more like "Oh literary Japanese spoken, that's funny" rather than "haha" lol. I think the sub is worth watching, the voices are great - but I'm def excited to watch this in English now too.

I was initially taken off guard because the English Adachi VA lines and performance were different from my Japanese one (and the English manga publication). But I quickly came to love it. The English adaptation and VA performance for Adachi wonderfully brought to life Adachi’s core character in all its facets in English!
Bravo English adaptation team! In particular, the Script Adapter, Voice Actor Director, and our Voice Actors themselves, thank you!!!
Fun fact: Adachi's EN VA is in two Hoyo games...you'll be surprised on who he voiced there

I didn’t know the names of the English VAs when I first was watching the dub. But as early as episode 1, I thought, “Adachi is sounding like Linney from Genshin Impact. I’m aware that VA is known for having quite the wide voice acting range, almost like a chameleon or something.” And, sure enough, it was Linney from Genshin Impact 😄

“BL” or “Boys Love” is an all encompassing term. It includes “yaoi” and “shounen-ai”
“Yaoi” are generally BL with explicit sexual content, even focused on it like a hentai with story to it, or just a good story that also has explicit sexual content.
In short, “Yaoi” generally means BL with “the deed” being shown. Almost like a Seinen/Josei counterpart to Shounen/Shojo
“Shounen-ai” are BL typically more romance, drama, and relationally focused without “the deed” events happening or being portrayed.
In short, “non-explicit BL.”
A lot of popular BL are yaoi. And, technically, Cherry Magic is a yaoi manga. They’ve had to adapt the original “yaoi” parts (as explained above) into something more broadcast friendly. But the anime manages to keep much of what was originally communicated in those manga moments in the anime.

I totally get it! Listening to the English dub script adaptation made me think of abridged fan dub stuff too. But the fundamental techniques of using rhyming and matching first consonants in phrases makes the script smart and smooth in its entertainment value.

A different experience from the Japanese that initially threw me off. But casting, their English script adaptation, and the VA performances were actually rock solid on point! Though, Cherry Magic’s English dub has the advantage of making the comedic tone hit me better naturally, more than the original Japanese (which is HARD to adapt comedic lines from Japanese to English. The only other show that I know nails it too is “Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun” English dub).
