    This stuff does not hold up in the sun (which I find ironic, considering it's made for outdoor signs). I wrapped an entire drum set with just one roll, it went on easy and looked great. Then, as I was setting up the set in my garage I moved the floor tom into the sun to move things around, and within 10 minutes the wrap started to wrinkle. I moved it back into the shade and about 15 minutes later it leveled out again. It was only about 70 degrees outside, with no humidity, so it's not like it was a scorching day. I've resigned myself to the fact I either have to only use the kit indoors (which will be tough since 3/4 of my Summer gigs are outdoors), or spend a ton on legit drum wrap. I guess it's a great option if you're only going to set up your kit in your basement or studio; if you plan on gigging outdoors, not so much.

    I have used a similar material on drums sets a couple times. Durability wise, definitely put some durable clear finishing tape to hold the end seam. Also, only install it over a gloss lacquer finish or an existing wrap. Going on bare wood is... rough. It's a neat way to get a temporary finish change though.
    But, I've never used Paper Street Plastics, so maybe theirs is better. You went with the best possible color choice, so thumbs up for that!

    I love all the different options to choose from and it does claim to have an out door life of 5 years, so I think I will chance it. I've used car wrap and that's held up great for a very long time, plus It's easily removed with zero shell damage, so as long as Street Plastics has the same charactoristics as that then I'm all in.

    • @tq64to4
      @tq64to4  ปีที่แล้ว

      Personal in my opinion I don’t think the stuff will work well for car wrap because of the way the glitter is applied to the wrap. Plus I haven’t tested how well it with stretch and self heal with heat like most car wrap do 🤷‍♂️ just my 2 cents bro! But now you got me wondering. Maybe I’ll do a follow up video trying to wrap something with curves to see how it will works

    I used this stuff on a mixed maker studio kit...bought a half roll of the red sparkle. Looked awesome when finished. But I did stick it down all the way around the shell...the manufactor said it would wrinkle if I didn't. That was due to the temp changes in the room(s) where I played the kit.

    I've wrapped a few of my drum sets. One with a textured gator skin, one with a copper/orange sparkle, and one with a green sparkle. I use marine vinyl that they use to upholster seats with. It comes in large rolls big enough to do an entire set with. And it's relatively cheap. I can get 3 cubic yards for about $60 or $70. You just cut it down to size and use a durable spray adhesive to tack it on. Then I use a drill to drill through all the hardware screw holes. If you do it right it looks factory professional. The options for colors and textures are pretty much unlimited. I wish I could upload pics of my kits here, but even after more than 15 years my gatorskin kit has held up perfectly after many gigs. Still looks new.

    Turned out great! Thanks for the informative video. I am looking into ordering from paper street plastics and recovering my drum set but just saw they have two drum wraps now a glitter and a sparkle option one of them being considerably thicker, it says 4.5mm. I am debating going with that option as it may not have that orange peel look like you were describing. The confusing part is both of those item listings show the same images and color options and the thicker one is actually cheaper. Lol a bit confused, but fingers crossed it’s the right choice! If not I may return and buy the thinner film you used. 🤘
