Thank you for the review! It's so difficult finfing reviews on Hongdian pens but they offer such a fascinating range of affordable options. Keep up the great work and thank you again!
Hongdian is becoming one of my favorite brands. They have toooons of models that I keep discovering and loving immediately. Great review! I might take a look at this one in green.
I'd mention that my Muji does not have any problem posting fully and easily. Flush capping is the best kind of over-engineering. Also, yay for threads at the nib end of the section AND section flush to barrel. Grip as you please.
I prefer screw cap. It gives me a feelings of quality and I know the cap won't become loose with use, can't say about this Muji cap, but friction caps are major turn off for me, when I see a pen that has that it's disappointing to me they didn't go the extra mile and made a screw cap
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess I understand one can have a preference for one or the other, but I must say I've never experienced a snap cap failure, so I'm good with any minor risk in payment for the convenience.
Mine does like his, and I have to twist it on to close the gap. Not a big deal, but if I hadn’t watched reviews I would just be going around with that gap there thinking I had it posted.
Hi James, jusr found this excellent made video. I appreciate the additional infos blended in the video. And yes, this pen bacame instantly one of my favorite pens. Its the design and the light weight whereby I normally tend more to big and heavy pens. The H3 makes the difference. I became a huge fan of HongDian, got currently about different 13 pen-models and they are all excellent.writing instruments.
Thank you for your review, always a pleasure to watch your videos! I love the Muji, I use a Faber-Castell fine nib in it, one of my favorite fountain pen for the price (but I'm more a Monteverde Scotch Brown kind of guy :) ). This Hongdian seems nice too, may be I'll try it... I have the black forest, nice but I don't really use it (and the clip doesn't fit really anymore, it is rattling)
@@ichirofakename yes, the design of the Muji with the smoothness of the FC nib (I get them from the loom when I find sales on amazon) is a real pleasure! :)
@@tiamatandall I can confirm that F-C nibs like on the Loom (or in my case the Basic/Essentio, it's the same nib) fit nicely in the Muji. I also happen to know that they also fit into the TWSBI ECO. I have both these setups in my collection, tossing out the Basic nibless bodies, which cracked.
"Upgrade"; "Downgrade"; or "Even" with the Jinhao 95 with #5 Fine nib? (all black including clip, trim ring, and nib, "stealth" 95.) Is there any noticable differences in the Hongdian and Jinhao converters? Do the Hongdian last longer before the bore is worn and a touch loose, making it a ... "challenge" ... to ink up? (to avoid air leaks between converter and section walls, a ring of super glue about 3/16 inch from the bore end works great. Of course the converter don't remove anymore ... "oh well... itta 'piston fill' pen now 😁👍"
I've just been writing with this pen a bit lately, and I'd probably give its nib the edge over the 95's, but not by a huge margin. It's the same that's in the Black Forest and other HD's, if that helps.
I've been eyeing this pen for a while now (the green one, actually) but you're the only person who has reviewed this! I can't find a thing anywhere else, not even reddit or fountain pen network! The green one's color vary in all the photos I've seen...that's why I'm hesitant. It sure looks like a nice pen though... How has yours held up? 🤔 Anyways I hope you have a great week, and thank you for the review! 😄
Great find! My wallet's not so happy I've watched this video, but I am! :-) BTW, I got a Black Forest and was surprised at how smooth the EF nib is. The bundle came with an F and a fude nib, too; I still need to try those.
Hi James, Wonderful overview of this FP [it is nice to know what is out there]. I quite like Hongdian Bamboo FP; comes with converter [Lamy et al please take note] & you can get a set of different as well. These guys know how to market a FP.
I ordered the green version 2 weeks ago... still on its way. Really excited about this - the only reason I got it is because it reminded me way too much of the Muji that I have :).
Thanks for sharing this! I have the muji and was looking for cool alternatives I could add to my collection. Thanks for talking about the cap! I carry two pens, one has to always be a pop off cap. I use that one for signing receipts at stores and restaurants and signing in at work everyday. The twist offs take too long when it comes to a quick siggy. They cause attention at the register and by then you'll be handed one of their used pens heh.
I ordered one in silver with an extra-fine nib! I have several of the "Forest" series pens, including the Black Forest, Silver Birch, dark Blue, and Blue Light of Hope! Like you, I really like these Hongdian pens! Have yet to get a "bad" nib!
Wow! Exactly what I would chose! Could you share some photos and writing samples of it once you receive it? It would help me to pull the trigger on my own purchase.
@@TheNightowl001 I don't think youtube allows it, indeed. I'll check out the group, for sure. The r/fountainpen reddit is also a good place to post it if you can. It's an amazing community.
Good catch. You are correct. My guess is that I forgot to change the grip measurement from the pen before (I use a template) and it's the wrong number. The barrel and grip are indeed the same.
When I saw this pen, My very first thought was... is this a Muji pen? It must be...yeah, I think it’s a Muji pen. Interesting to see the differences. And...yeah. I want one (even though I already have a Muji pen).
I really wanna get my very first Hongdian pen and kind of decided on the black forest and this review just gave me another worry lol I think I’ll get the H3 first then the rest of the brand

I would appreciate it very much if you could do a review on the jinhao 95!
Thank you for all your videos.
I also have the Muji and my cap does not have that posting issue. The Hongdian reminds me of my black Lamy CP-1.
A screw cap is definitely a pro for me so I like they added it

7:10. Quick qn: shouldn’t the diameter of grip and barrel both be 10.5 mm? I see the table lists diameter of grip as 9 mm but i dont see a step down

I do have a Muji but have some issues with nib. Wondering on H3 now. Is there alternative for 3.4 mm cartridges or no chanses?
Muji feels too cheap
