The writers have confirmed it was written about tech bros in general, but holy hell did Elon step up to the plate. The writers almost seemed concerned (maybe legally?) that it was so applicable to Elon.
Musk is like Jordan Peterson. I can’t understand how people can listen to them for more than one sentence and not go “oh this person is really stupid.”
I think it’s this implicit appeal to authority. Like, musk has a ton of money and Peterson has some fancy degrees. Those almost do the talking for them and people don’t really listen to what they actually say
Ignorant, arrogant, uninformed . . . those are much more precise words. His I.Q. is confirmed to be around 150-160. Smart people often get chomped on by hubris, because they lack common sense. Jordan Peterson is similar to TFG as in they both really believe they are elites but cannot figure out why no one else seems to see it. It's like comparing a Rolls-Royce to a Chrysler 300 because the driver crashed it, imo.

I hope you mention the bit about when right after he bought Twitter, and fired everyone that did work, he set up what I can only describe as a desperation yurt at the top of Twitter headquarters, and demanded that everyone that “still wrote code” had to have a meeting with him, where he asked them to, in all seriousness, bring printed screenshots of their git commits from the last 6 months. So that he, noted “tech” “genius” could “learn the stack”. For anyone that isn’t an engineer, imagine your deranged boss demanding you meet him at the top of a tower at midnight, and to bring your fourth grade drawings of dinosaurs so they can figure out what all this “oil stuff” is about.
another analogy i heard is if you're screenwriter, your boss tells you to print out 10 pages of your best *individual lines*, not scripts, not entire stories, not like storyboard for an idea or if you're a novelist being asked to bring stone carvings of your all time best adjectives
Hey now, Musk wrote the coding for a Space Invaders knockoff when he was 12, he definitely knows code and can figure this stuff out. We're all too dumb to understand how his big brain works.
8 was the price he was always going to start with; the bit with Stephen King was a feint, a cheap bit of price psychology. Of course, the price is already going up, and 20 is likely the target price he's working towards, as quickly as he can get away with it. Yes especially since there are “Neuralink’s new breakthrough “ videos starting to pop up on yt. For anyone looking for info, Common Sense Skeptic has an overview of how Musk’s antics decimated the brains trust of the original company, and the subsequent animal abuse under his watch. It’s in a series called “Debunking Elon Musk” and there is also a short excerpt of the Neuralink segment as a separate upload. In short, many animals have died under horrific treatment and conditions
Another decade of dubiously ethical experiments, and he might be up to 2010-level research. I'm not even against animal experiments - hell, I'd torture a thousand monkeys to death if that's what it took to develop a cure for Alzheimer's or a way to fix spinal injuries. The benefit simply outweighs the cost. But Neuralink is all costs: They've so far achieved nothing new, only replicated prior work and performed publicity stunts.
I missed that "come on buddy what's wrong with the stack" story, this was the first I heard of it, and it was pretty satisfying to watch someone simply ask him 1 simple direct question about being specific, which is and always has been Elon's kryptonite, and watching that tiny bit of pushback completely break him, he's like glass joe from punch-out, the NES version, where you're essentially unable to refrain from killing him by punching him at all
Yup, been clear for years to me that he's just not very smart - I mean he BARELY scraped together a BA in physics - a BA - literally the lowest level degree you can get (where I live you can't even teach 16 year old kids physics unless you have at least a BSc) and dropped out of his PhD almost immediately - no doubt he realized he was totally out of his depth - and his fanboys seem to think he knows everything and he's a genius.

Musk had me fooled for a number of years. The first crack in my belief came with learning about how he treated people. I'm also a certified advanced open water scuba diver, which is no great accomplishment, but it does mean I have a lot of interest in that sport. The real fracture happened when he called one of the worlds top recovery/rescue divers a pedo because he called musk's idea to rescue those kids stuck in a flooded cave stupid; I'm paraphrasing heavily. And then the finally, the nail in the coffin was when we were still in the middle of covid and he started talking about lifting all the restrictions despite continued warnings from experts; not just the CDC, but experts from top medical orgs and universities. For any MAGA heads reading this, I would like to point out how easy it was for me to say I was wrong about someone. That he fooled me. That I came around to the reality of the person. Anyway, when this particular subject came up in a discussion only days later, I found that the page had been scrubbed from the archive site. (We don't have political discussions in 2023, but I just wanted to sound less combative.) Obviously it was scrubbed from the original site as well. Someone paid, or of their own accord, disappeared the only proof left on the internet that something was said. So Way Back Machine is absolute dog shit. I use Archive.is, but I don't know if they are any more reliable. Bottom line is you can't trust the archive sites. If you really wanna save something you need to save it yourself.
My theory is; Trump so lowered the bar for stupid that Musk and Peterson can't compete.
Ignorant, arrogant, uninformed . . . those are much more precise words. His I.Q. is confirmed to be around 150-160. Smart people often get chomped on by hubris, because they lack common sense.

So that he, noted “tech” “genius” could “learn the stack”.

8 was the price he was always going to start with; the bit with Stephen King was a feint, a cheap bit of price psychology.

Imagine thinking a private internet company is “free speech”. People really don’t know what that means.
Having a private company is basically the same as being a dictator.
@@tabularasa0606 um 😐 not really but okay.
@@tabularasa0606 Living in a house is basically the same as being a dictator, because how dare you tell me I can't come inside and yell whatever slurs I want and piss and shit wherever I please. Sure, I can go somewhere else and do that, maybe even my own house, but I should have the right to do it in _your_ house, too. I thought this was America!
An Astolfo avatar account being in the engineering conference call with Musk is both extremely funny and extremely fitting.
Yes! And he didn’t get it either.
I was trying to figure out if that was an employee or just a fan listening lol
It was so much better than he had something to say.
Let’s be honest. All the noise about a lack of freedom of speech is really, truly about freedom of hate speech and the freedom to lie without being fact-checked.
It's always been that. It's a dogwhistle. And if it wasn't, we wouldn't have seen a 500% uptick in use of slurs on Twitter after Elon's "free speech" takeover.
Pretty much exactly that yeah
Freedom cannot be cherry picked, we are either all of us free, or none of us are free, however we feel no matter how right or wrong we are, or hurtful or hateful the words and beliefs are at any given time.
All dialogue no matter how coarse generally leads to a conversation and conversations are how we identify and fix our problems. If we retreat into our echo chamber walling up our exit every time we are faced with an opinion that we feel threatened by, how will we ever be made better?
@@thetruthhurts4147 the problem is that Twitter isn't about discourse, it's about confirming the echo.
If someone says something hateful or lies they Will find others who agree. Any dissenting opinion will be blocked. This leads to people assuming that their hate is common, and allows lies to spread unchecked until they morph into "truth".
The only way to stop hate speech is to remind those using it that's it's NOT acceptable. The only way to stop a lie is to stop it from spreading and drown it in truth.
Both of those things are essential to free speech. If you feel hate but can't express it, your speech is not free.

honestly one of the most remarkable things about musk to me is how terminally uncharismatic he is. He has the cadence of a 10 yr old who was asked to explain why he thought it was a good idea to tie his backpack to the ceiling fan
that's the thing that makes his cult following (emphasis on cult) so baffling. Like if you were a teen and he was your dad trying to act like a redditor in front of your friends you'd die of embarrassment. Yet his posting of memes taken from reddit and 4chan - not even good memes, it's all old and/or basic shit! - has them all going 'le epic bacon lulz you win the internet today sir!' It's remarkable how many of them he's managed to bring with him during his evolution as a public figure over the last decade or so - thought definitely a lot of people who bought into the 'saviour of humanity' hype hopped off that train since he became more active on twitter, starting from pedogate onwards

I'd like to point out that they are charging the U.S. 4,500 per month, per starlink that they "donated" to Ukraine. Its essentially a wifi router. They have a special price for their philanthropy. Its tens of millions for routers. Tens of millions per year. That's a far cry from the 30 bucks they said the things would cost.
"this will be great pr, and they are going to lose in like a month tops, so it won't even cost us anything!"
Wifi router... you are an idiot because you know that isn't true.
I am sure a Netgear, Cisco or tplink would do the same job...
Not only is he charging the US (as well as the UK and Poland) for the service, but he's using it to unload his old stock. The current starlink dishes are round, and the older ones are square (it might be the other way around, I forget exactly which way it goes). He's "giving away" the older square ones.

As a fellow Canadian I could not stand by and do nothing while he continues his special brand of stupidity far and wide. I maybe spent a bit too much time on a few memes but all in good taste of course. Just some friendly satire! Well I went to my local convenience store last night for a few snacks and and I ran into a fellow local business owner I know and we got the chatting about how Elon has ruined Twitter and laughed about how much money he lost and how inspiring he now is not because of his success but because of his failures. Well imagine when I open Twitter once I get home to find that I am now permanently banned due to the parody policy, without any prior warning or request to modify my account name or bio or having any prior temporary suspension for this policy. I went and tried appealing it and was quickly rejected again. Did Elon change it so that if anybody insults him to get kicked off the platform?
