I was actually intimidated to take apart my Glock, but after several classes it was time. Your video helped me feel comfortable taking it apart and cleaning it. Very well done video, thank you!
its been close to 30 years since I've owned a Glock but I fell in love with a 17 the first time I fired one. this past year, I was able to purchase another Glock, this time a 19 and this is my first time cleaning this particular gun. I'm having problems getting the spring back into place. 😃i knew as soon as I typed this i'd figure it out! Im going through the classes next month for CC and I want to be confident with it. the person who had originally gotten me into liking guns was not a good example of a gun owner so I'm glad I found this video!
Thank you! The information was great and you presented it very well. I knew I was in the right place when you began by putting the ammunition in a different location. One suggestion: Cleaning the mag well and magazines is also important. My firearms instructor advises using silicone spray for this. After cleaning the traditional way, he sprayed silicone lubricant on a paper towel then wiped out the "cleaned" mag well and wiped down the magazines. It came out black. The magazines now fly out and mag changes are faster!
@@garden0fstone736 you do not want CLP or oils to seep into the mag well or the Glock striker channel. You do not need to soak Glock parts or cleaning with tons of CLP. A few dabs or drops, light spray is ✔️. I use Slip 2000 EWL or Clenzoil. Both have no fumes, no residue, no rust-friction problems.
i haven't even finished the vid yet but I am in LOVE with you!!! I couldn't get my slide off to save my life, all 4 of my fingers that "touch" the 2 side release buttons are SORE from trying but I tried it your way and it came off the FIRST time!!! You rock, thank you so much for such an insightful and inspiring solution.
Appreciate your video. Antique retired LEO here with G-19. My first and only Glock. Getting slide off was tough until watching your video. Mine has a safety from Ten Ring out of Texas. Too old to catch Glock leg. Thank you for making this.
New to handguns and found this video extremely helpful. Now I'm not that nervous about taking my glock 19 apart and feel confident I will be able to put it back together. Thank you.
Great video. Thanks. One quick thing -when putting the spring back onto the barrel, there are two indentations at the end of the barrel. I’m accidentally put it on on the first indentation. Got to make sure to put it on the other one all the way to the bottom.
I just picked up my first glock, it's a 19 gen 3. My friend has shown me all the steps to cleaning it, but this helps reinforce everything he taught me. He swears by CLP as well! Thank you for an informative and very helpful video, you demonstrated everything very well!

Thank you so much for your detailed video. May I suggest to always clean your gun(s) after firing as it is a good practice to get into to make sure it is fully functional after each use. Excellent maintenance makes a safe and happy gun! Thanks so much!
In 2022, you can buy or get no lead, low lead range ammunition. It lowers the crud, grit, lead in your firearm. I've used these no lead brands for years.
Good stuff. I clean it every time I shoot it, which is so infrequently I have to look up cleaning each time. This video is just right in time of run and thoroughness.
Coming from shotguns. First handgun, Glock 19 G3. Such a simple lightweight firearm. My only feedback would be to “spray” the CLP on something and wipe it on, cause it just goes everywhere. I recognize that’s sort of the point, but it’s just more to remove imho. 500 rounds was enough to make me want to clean it, and now it is. Little slower would have been nice for us noobs, but I appreciate the video nonetheless.
Very informative and well shot. My only comment is it was unclear to me which direction the return spring goes back in the gun. I have not yet purchased the weapon, so a little clarification about the spring would be appreciated.
I clean my 19x in a sink , hot water , soap , old tooth brush . Then let it dry in front on hair dryer for a few mins . Oil the important stuff and cycle 2rds to make sure it’s good 👍
HellloM8 When cleaning a firearm your main concern is the barrel and action. I suggest using a bore snake that is the right size for your weapon ( it should specify size on the box ), and a basic cleaning kit with brushes to clean out the action. Other than that, all you will need is some gun oil and there are so many to choose from it is really up to you. Thanks for watching! ~ Craig
I cleaned my Glock 19 for the first time last night with Ballistol, I was in a well ventillated area (outside) and it left me high as a kite. I don't think I'll be using Ballistol again, I hope CLP fumes aren't as bad heh.
I use the drop version of CLP and I just clean my Glock in my bedroom. If you get the drops it basically doesn't smell. The spray is slightly stronger in smell. So, I would do it with your windows open or a fan nearby.
Thanks for this. Just got a Glock 19 and needed to know how to take it apart. Is that a nylon or stainless steel brush your using. What about Hopps #9 for cleaning?
I cleaned my glock 19 using hoppes solvent. It seemed to have left streaks and a gummy feeling on the slide no matter how well I wiped it down after. What would you suggest to clean the streaks? Would rubbing alcohol be good to use?
With a brand new firearm of any type or style, I'd apply some degreaser like Simple Green, Froglube 🐸. New guns, parts are often coated with a thin protective grease. For 📦. I'd use a well made CLP for cleaning-oil. Clenzoil brand, Slip 2000 EWL, Rand CLP. Read the gun, owners manual 📔 & follow the directions. Guns & magazines do not need tons of cleaner or gun oil.
Caution with oil around firing pin area and maybe use a different cloth like t-shirt material. But you made a good vid and clear speaking and of course the how to.
it's 2018, but still if i you have time, what grease should i use in the slide?, can i use clp?, or an oil? hope for the answer, by the way nice video tutorial.
First time Glock owner here. Glock 19 gen 3. I wanted to make sure I had as much knowledge as possible before I started a breakdown and cleaning. This video helped a ton. It helped build a knowledge base, as well as a boost in confidence because it was presented in a laid back and easy-peezey kind of way. Thanks for the video!
Smart man on the gloves. However, Im a woman, and I never would have thought to use gloves. And now I will. Cuz I too hate the chemical smell and the feeling after cleaning my Glock. Thanks hun! Also, I didnt know I could do as much cleaning as you did. Im new, first time owner/user of a Glock. PS CLP is awesome!
Great, so glad you as a new gun owner are taking the steps to know your gun and to take good care of it by keeping it maintained properly. I usually do gun cleaning in the open garage or outside to dissipate the smell as well.
There's no firing pin. It's striker fired. Soaking the Glock the way he does increases the likelihood that fouling will get into the striker channel and cause a malfunction down the road. This is NOT the cleaning method recommended by Glock. You can "take the oil off of it" all you want but you're not going to get the oil-soaked crud out of the striker channel.
Actually, it does have a firing pin. I was wrong. I've been committing gun blasphemy by mixing up the lingo. It is striker-fired (not hammer fired) which means the striker hits the firing pin which impacts the primer . I'm certainly no Glock expert but I do know that coating a Glock in Oil does indeed create a high probability that fouling will creep with that oil back into the striker/firing-pin channel.

Glocks are easy to field strip. As noted, I prefer to drop in a Glock Store steel slide lock. It's thick, easy to use. Glocks pop right apart.
Good safety tip regarding removing the mag from the work area.
Good idea, just in case I decide to grab the mag, slam it in and fire a shot, assuming the slide is on

What kind of grease is used at 8:30? (Ah, he answered it at 9:30, high temperature lithium grease)
When you spray directly into the slide back at the firing pin area, aren't you afraid of leaving that liquid down in the works?

After how many range trips should I clean my gun?
How many mags have you put it through?
You could apply this cleaning to any kind of semi-automatic, correct?
