The trick in the ice swimming, is sauna. You get your body temperature high, so the outside air or water doesn't lower your body temperature so fast. I've never actually swam in ice hole, not all Finns have. I've rolled in snow after sauna, made snow angels butt-naked when I was a kid. Rolling in snow is more common as it is so everywhere, even if your sauna isn't by lake/sea side.

The most important is to have sandals on you because it hurts when your feet keeps freezing to the ground every step you take on the way back to the sauna.

I've lived in this building for 10 years. The next door neighbor moved in around the same time. I have never said a word to him, or rather, he has not said a word to me. I've said "hi" once but he just does not want to contact anyone, he does not even look at you... In fact, this summer was the first time that a person from my building talked to me.. That is so Finnish...
I don't mind, there is a quiet understanding and it is not at all hostile. We just keep to ourselves, and feel like i can fully trust them. Even my extremely grumpy neighbor... he really looks like he has eaten poison 5 minutes ago, i only see him when he is coming from work, looks very physical work too.. so.. who knows, he might be actually really jolly guy but i only see him at the worst time of his day, cause that is the only time our paths meet.

I've seen celebrities, rich people, politicians whose names i know in buses, trams and metro. I've been in a line for cashier in a grocery store with then previous prime minister. I went to school with one of our PMs too. And i'm not from a rich area, i'm not even from Helsinki (although most of those encounters happened when i lived there). There is no real gap, it is more like a sliding scale and since people don't flaunt their fortune, you just don't know what status a person has or how much they own unless you know who they are. And when it comes to politicians.. that kind of puts them in a spot, you can't be very, very unpopular without getting direct feedback, it is hard to isolate yourself so perfectly that you would not hear the people in the streets.
Aslo, i have been lucky to have huge number of friends and in each "circle" there are rich, middle class and poor. It just has never been important but to be fair, my "subgroup" are artists and freethinkers. In those circles no one cares who your daddy is or how much you do or don't make.

Funny story about that ice swimming and getting Even colder..
    But reverse.
My friend who went to Lebanon as a UN soldier told this.
Locals there were watching and their thoughts were "They come here in this heat and right away they build a room where they get Even hotter..better not mess with them" 🤣🤣

Yeah the no titles, you basically talk to everyone as if they were your old friends. Finns proudly consider themselves as important as ANYONE else. If you go to school, students sit in same lunch tables with teachers and call them by first name. Your foremen in your job, or the owner of the work place, you call them by first name and talk like to whoever.
If you meet the prime minister or president and meet them on the street or their free time, you can use their first name and speak like between friends. Sometimes people wish to make a point it's the president or the prime minister, like media wants to emphatize the authority. Or in official meetings, in the parliament for example. Asking should I use your title or not in a normal discussion... that's not a thing here as usually you do not. But if you want to, it's okay.

Small tip for beginning. When you edit a video and add music in to the begining and end. Try to adjust it to same level or even little down from your voice so it it dosn´t burst out when you watch the video.
Yes, woman realy can work almost everywhere just like man. Nothing special about woman to be prime minister, becouse we already had one before. Anneli Jäätteenmäki was a short season as prime minister. We also hade female as a president. Tarja Halonen was precident of Finland 2000-2012 just before Sauli Niinistö.
Once you´ve been precident the title stays with the person rest of the life. So when Sauli became president we had four presidents in Finland (Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari, Tarja Halonen and Sauli himself ofcourse).
About sauna. Yes we are there naked and we can even have mixed saunas with friendgroup male and female mixed together and family ofcourse, but normaly strangers do not go mixed into the sauna (savusauna on poikkeus). That´s why there are different sides in public saunas for men and women.
Sauna can be also very erotic place and many couples also has sex in the sauna. It´s just very swetty to do that 😅. But yes, mostly it is place to relax and bath. All the dirt comes out from your skin easier when you go to sauna.

Definitely don't come to Finland if you can't be silent and respect other people's right to the silence place. If you cause constant noise, for example loudspeaker calls, chatter, you will be taken as a very annoying person.

    • @turpasauna
      @turpasauna 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

100% this. There was a poll about this recently, and the most annoying passengers in public transport(according to Finns) were those who shouted into their phones or made noise. For Finns, the trainride from work to home is a chance to relax a bit, take a deep breath.
