For a moment I was hyped that they might have a new release. been a long time fan. it's basically a mix of Nile and Deicide. All their records are strong but each newer one has been better than the last. a constant evolution I'd say.
Vital Remains gets related to Deicide a lot, which I can see why, however I always liked this band more. I don't think they've ever put out a flat-out bad album. It's been some time since I've listened to any of these albums, though. For that reason I don't know what I'd rank them. I'll need to dig them up again. Great video and I enjoyed hearing your thoughts.
I own all of their CDs including the Horrors Of Hell compilation, I have 3 of their t-shirts: 30 Years of Blasphemy, Forever Underground and Icons of Evil. I also have the Icons of Evil wall flag. Unfortunately I have only seen them live once back in 2019 but I have been a fan since 2009. I remember falling absolutely in love after I bought that Dechristianize album and heard that harmonizing guitar lick in the song "Dechristianize". Some of my favorite songs are "Rush of Deliverance" and "Entwined By Vengeance". Of course "Hammer Down The Nails" is a total banger too. Yes "Upheaval" is amazing and I love that calm acoustic part too. For some reason it just makes it sound that much more sinister. I will agree that their songs are a little long but I have a lot of patience. 🤘😈🤘
Dechristianize is one of the best death metal songs ever and Dave Suzuki plays guitar and drums on the last two, I'm not sure about the ones before.. I only own the last 2 with Glen on vocals and the debut.
There was supposed to be a follow-up to "Icons Of Evil". There was cover art created, it was supposed to come out on Hell's Headbangers (I think)....then nothing. Does anyone know where these guys are at with the LP? It's gotta be sitting on a hard drive somewhere.
Everything Vital Remains is S and A tier, full stop LOL. Such a good band, Icons of Evil is my favorite album of theirs but only barely edges out everything else (simply because it was the first album aside from Dechristianize I ever heard). I made friends with Aaron Homma who played with VR for a few years and now has the Technical Deathgrind band Killitorous (I'm also working on a new alternate logo for that band), awesome dude.
Latter day VR would be so much better if they trimmed the fat on their songs. I remember an interview where Tony said “I just naturally write songs”, and I remember thinking, “you literally just play the same song twice”. The components are there, just need more focus

I feel like im the only Vital Remains fan that loves everything they've done equally, because I feel like all there albums are unique from each other (Other than dechristianize and icons of evil, but that's not a bad thing), I got into them because I love brutality but am a sucker for that beautiful neoclassical melody through Dechristianize, though I will admit problems with later albums such as length, repetitiveness, structure, and lyrics, which are huge problems on the Benton Albums, but is it really bad if I love it so much?
I need to check dechristianize sometime. Oh my God, THANK YOU for validating my opinion that Vital Remains' songs are WAY TOO LONG. I can't put them up with my favorite death metal bands because all their songs are 8 minutes. And they aren't Opeth so they can't get away with it. I even think the songs are too long on Dechristianize. I really do hope that their next album actually has some editing on it. Lol.
Too long is the only downfall of most of their output. BUT solid death metal in general anyways. Too bad Tony had some real health issues years ago, and Dave (insanely talented guitarists/drummer) has long since gone on to other almost as good projects (not bad, just different), and the output has been nil for far too long. Also, the insane amount of members this band has had is almost laughable. Here's to hoping Tony can get the band in gear and get some new stuff out soon. Their last three albums are definitely just some monstrous slabs of beef. lol

I don't know. Icons of Evil seems their weakest to me. It's like this album is trying really hard to be Dechristianize 2.0 but everything that worked on Dechristianize fails here. It is like Dechristianize but overpolished, boring, inexcusably long and lacking actual aggression. And it may be one of Benton's most underwhelming performances. And I would definitely put Dawn of the Apocalypse higher. This is basically an album where they actually developed style Dechristianize is known for. It is just rawer. My personal favorite is Forever Underground. It shows a groovier side of Vital Remains and I like production and sound on it the most. Just perfect for this type of death metal and has perfect balance between rawness and tightness. + they didn't overdo this album in terms of length.
You’re absolutely trippin if you think repetitive and boring Dechristianize and Icons of Evil are better then the absolute majesty and greatness of Forever Underground. The song Dechristianize doesn’t come close to being their best song, that honor belongs to I Am God. Horrible ranking overall

Vital remains legit only have two good albums. Dechristianize and Icons of evil.
