    Watched this video so many times 2 years ago when I used to dream about becoming a pilot. I accomplished that dream last month. You inspired me Kelly, thank you.

    Hi Kelly, greetings from Finland! Thanks for posting this video. I found it a long time ago (a year, maybe), and for some reason I keep getting back to it and watch it at least once every month or so. Somehow the combination of nice weather, good camera angle to the cockpit, and a pretty girl looking very confident and relaxed while flying, just makes this such a nice video to watch. :) Anyways, thanks again and have fun flying!

    Wow! You go girl!!! 🙌 I am so proud of you and highly inspired. As a woman who is afraid of heights I would like to try and get a private pilot's license and do this. I love to try something new and unexpected. Watching your awesomeness just gives me so much courage and hope. YOU ROCK!!💪

      +beanandpopcorn Now that is an epic comment and it is my greatest pleasure in inspiring others - because aviating is literally so much fun!!! I can honestly say it's worth experiencing it...Fly good, don't suck!

    You look as laid back as I was on my solo. I soloed a 150 and 172 in same day. I had over 40 hours at solo. I started flying at 15, soloed on my 16th birthday, private on 17th, commercial on 18th, and instructor at 19. I remember some hot baby dolls flying when I did. I made a really bad mistake in my flying career that ended it at 20 something. I'm almost 62 and regret it everyday. You go girl...don't let flying EVER get out of your blood.

    Awesome Vid. A friend of mine just bought a sling and is building it in Australia. That was beautifully flown. I fly 747's into JNB from Australia. That was a great circuit.

    I'm not a pilot or anything but for this being your first solo flight you seem very relaxed. You don't have a death grip on the stick and seem very confident and in control. You give the impression you've been doing it for a while and you're just out for another day of flying. I'm sure you're even better now.

    • @KellyMcAuley
      @KellyMcAuley  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was one of the first things my instructor mentioned "I don't want to see the whites of your knuckles, use fingertips and slow inputs - you don't want to induce pilot drag" So far I'm flying a more challenging aircraft - taildraggers are soooo much more fun and control inputs must be precise - on the ground that is. Thank you for the comment and hope you you have a great weekend further!

    wow that must be a awesome feeling. i have always wanted to fly since I was a kid standing on the garage out in the backyard with a plastic tent that I turned into a parachute. just as i was about to jump my mum ran out and stopped me. talk about spoiling a kids dreams. that was the end of my dream to fly. :-(

    I gotta say Kelly I don't post comments, but I'm compelled to post now. This is the best vid of a relaxed, confident Pilot with little experience that I've yet seen by far! I'm a helo & fixed wing rescue driver & you appear to fly better than some of the guys I've flown with (& they USE checklists, hehe). The music is awesome & it'd be a privilege to go fly with you! Keep having fun & learn heaps! BTW, I'm not biased because my daughters name is Kelly & she started to fly helo's also... Just sayin' ;-b
    Fly safe!

    • @kelzonie32
      @kelzonie32 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Golly, what an *awesome* comment! Quite an honour when it comes from an experienced helo & fixed wing driver....learning is the best part and its only just started. In the meantime will be spending my Sundays getting a conversion onto a Citabria followed by listening to the old folk with a wealth of knowledge on Aviation talk for hours......watch this space for vid uploads.

  • @KellyMcAuley
    @KellyMcAuley  10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Probably my favourite comment from an experienced pilot! I am definately humbled that you thought it was good enough to show your sons......(secret to be confident) - "Look after your aircraft and she will look after you!". Had an awesome instructor(Tony Kent) - he always upsets the situation abruptly, like cruising on downwind(thinking its all dandy, tralalala) when he just cuts the power, or you have set up for the perfect touchdown and he makes sure you must recover from ballooning and just before touchdown after ballooning its a go around....these certainly helped too! Just passed my PPL on Monday 20 May, next step is a conversion on a Citabria....If you want to follow my progress, I will be posting videos every now and then on youtube and pics on instagram - aircraft_market or kellyjanemcauley. All the best for your boys!

      You're right, best Steering is to relax.
      Have the Stick between the Fingers, feel the Plane.
      Let Steering Hand have a Restingpoint, your Leg, that is Helping.
      But you that, we see.
      I would fly with you any Time, but I'm loving to Steering too...
      Nice Flight, with happy Landings, anytime!

      It was a little bit windy on that day , I will admit it truly is a nice aircraft to fly - simple and great for training , but for me I prefer a challenge , an aircraft that is not so nimble and light on the touch to fly......taildragger rating complete , next up aerobatics!
      As I say you don't learn much flying straight and level all the time 😝

    Why do we need music on this video and why do we have to watch the pilot instead of natural sounds and views?

    • @KellyMcAuley
      @KellyMcAuley  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cafer türker guess there are 3 reasons as to why we watching the pilot fly and not the sights of the world , 1. This was a reminder for myself that it was my first solo flight - never forget 'becoming an aviator', 2 . I can learn from all the little mistakes I've made from this flight , 3 . Other future pilots may want to know what the cockpit situation looks like when you go solo for the first time , give them a little confidence - I don't think they can learn from watching videos that only show the ground.

  • @GSOaviator
    @GSOaviator 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wish I looked outside that often out of good habit haha! That's the one bad thing about flight simulation - makes you look inside more than you would in the real world and that bad habit transfers into the real world.

    Well done! Silly question, how does a flight course cost?

      +Tom McLaughlin cost vary on aircraft you want to train on, I had a great hourly rate from a friend who offered me to train on his Sling - ZAR 700 / hr (about the cost to fly gliders) . Ranges from ZAR 1300.00 - ZAR 2000 / hr. You would need to complete 45 hrs flying time to get your PPL. Hope this helps?

      TC06 Sling. In the Sling they used switches for trim, I'm still hour-building but in a Citabria, studying CPL now - taking it easy and enjoying every hour I have! Check my latest flight th-cam.com/video/kaWYy0vArc4/w-d-xo.html
