Jill has really come around with her rp, she portrays more conviction rather than aggression like she did early on. She plays it fun like Joe, but can get as serious as Kelly. Joe has tightened up too, isn’t trying to get a joke constantly, or talking over (or out of turn) as much as early on. Kelly has a tendency to just ‘run’ things but over the last few he has let Joe make decisions (with tight lips albiet) or give Jill ‘the plan’ but even that has eased. Either he feels he can trust them more or is letting them shine now that they’ve been able to refine. Either way it’s been an amazing journey so far.
I love the series and I'm glad Jill is there, BUT! It seemed like she said "no" to what monty was setting up a couple times. Like when they found the queen she said "no the queen wouldn't talk to me like that" that seems offside, maybe they talked about it deeply before that session, but I have noticed that a few times in the series before this episode
@SicFromTheKush idk, I think Jill is trying to read the situation. This is a campaign with doppelgangers and simulacra in it. It's reasonable for a character in universe to be skeptical that someone acting strangely is not who they appear to be. Like when they encountered Sebastian's mom's simulacrum in the mirror dimension. In other words, Monty is exactly the kind of DM to throw a "you think it's the queen but it's actually not" situation at these characters, so it's reasonable for Jill to guard against that.
I really enjoy the idea of the whole group doing a little arcane study. Pluto especially, learning to identify and react appropriately to magical danger. Very thematic
Yeah, considering this city is full of magical horrors and effects, it makes way too much sense for any group or organization in the city to have some magical expertise. If anything, the Hooded Lanterns seemingly not having had any mages or magical experts in their employ outside of Oscar or Drakkenforce is very concerning.
Yeah when Sebastian was looking for robes when he was bald and pretending to be Cornelius, they said they used to have Spellcasters but they've all since left.
So, to recap... Depleted delirium shells (how long 'till they're loaded onto griffins for bombing runs?), expanding the Crow(e) family, Pluto is now a fireman, Sebastian got promoted from potion inspector to potion inventor, and Mannimarco the Worm of Kings ('cause that's definitely a less cool version thereof) accidentally inveted Drakken-Cola shortly before the comet fell. All in all, a good run indeed. I only wonder if the Little Shop of Potions herb wasn't drunk on Drakken-Cola all this time. I think the party deserves another safehouse, and I'm honestly pretty pleased to see them getting some more "practical" things available in the world, namely potion-brewing and more magic for the party they can use to good effect in and out of combat. Those mephits were a surprisingly tough fight, I'm not quite used to them being this threatening, so nice job taking them all down. And it's oddly pleasing, in a cute way, to see Veo learn magic apparently under Sebastian's guidance - party dynamics like this are what I love to see in stories, so it's great to see all 3 members of the party play out leveling up as learning with each other's help. And it's great to have finally caught up with you guys in full. I'll have you know that, while I was entertaining the thought for a while before, it was your channel that really made me properly interested in D&D, and this week I finally got myself a 5E set with intention to form a group sometime later and learn to DM. It was your advice videos I stumbled upon that inspired me first, and your Drakkenheim campaign that sealed the deal and showed me how the game can and should be run - not Critical Role, not the many other D&D tubers out there (though I respect others from their number too), it was you, Dudes (Jill and camera crew included!). Know this!
Is there something wrong with enjoying both Drakkenheim and Critical Role? Just wondering because so many people bring up not liking the show over this one when they're both great in different ways.
@@aaronapley258 No, but it's more akin to a "soft drink that's not Coke" deal. Critical Role is "the default game stream" for many, so it's not often that someone is drawn in and it's not because of them.

I'm so impressed with you guys (inclusive of Jill) with this campaign and the DD channel. Over the past month I've watched nearly every one of your videos including all 30 Drakkenheim episodes. I'm just getting into the D&D 5e started and you've made me feel like I know what I'm doing heading into my first session tomorrow. Thanks for all of it. Big fan.
Wow, I'd forgotten about this comment. Yes, the session went great. Hard to believe I've only been playing for a year. That group is still playing (some personnel changes and we've online due to Covid) and games are the highlight of my week. I even started DMing for my daughter (13) and some friends. Dungeon Dudes are still the best D&D content on TH-cam. I miss Drakkenforce!

Thank goodness I'm now all caught up! Now I will have time to finish making some maps and NPCs. My kids are out of town for a couple weeks, but when they get home they expect to play, and our last session they took a rode I wasn't expecting. It is homework time for me now I have learned from this and from DD DM tips. It has helped me keep the game flowing so much smoother. Thank you so much for all you do for us Dungeon Dudes. And thank you Jill and Joe as well for your efforts and entertaining us all. You are all exceptional character builders and players. 💖
I play dnd once a week with my friends and we’re all really new. It’s nice to watch this and contrast the expertly crafted campaign and characters with everything prepared. The compare that with our premade campaigns and basic characters. Not to say either is less fun, and that’s really the point of the game. Excited for the next episode!
There's nothing wrong with a pre-made campaign while you're all new at this. (Heck, I know of some way experienced DMs who play straight from modules, though it's not the norm.) So long as you're having fun, that's what matters. One way to step up your game is to focus on backstory. Who is your character and why did they step up to THIS adventure? Why do they care? Then start asking the same of the others.
omg.. they did a 5 magic items that come in handy today for their Thursday video. and almost all of the special items that they got today were in that video

A roper almost TPKed the party I DM. That was a very close call for them. 2 of 4 PCs hit 0 hp and the halfling nearly got lunched. I almost regretted putting it in there, but it worked out and made them far more cautious in the future.
I don't remember what happened to Pluto's glasses, but they were kinda useful to see the truth of some things, maybe they would work on the Queen of Thieves
I have to say that this story has been exactly what I've needed lately. Life has been difficult and I can only afford to play one day a week so getting to listen in on this adventure has been a blessing.

So, I have spending way too much time watching others play D&D. In other words I have been watching lots of videos, I feel like Dungeons of Drakkenheim is at the very top of the list... Even over the eight hundred pound gorilla in the room Critical Role
I haven't watched too many of these yet. Critical Role is fun, but I'd hardly call it the best. One show (and note the word "show") I watched, the PCs were introduced/described by the DM (taking away player agency) and it was so dull I didn't last past the intro. I actually enjoyed d&d with high school students, though they turned into little murder hobos, which had me smacking my head over their idiocy. What Dungeons of Drakenheim gets right, and what makes it so much of a blast: It actually feels like your at home table top campaign. The characters are incredibly witty, and very supportive of each other and their various goals. The DM is amazing in his flexibility and allowing for player agency. What makes this series truly great is that you feel that if the cameras were turned off and the show wasn't being "televised" (or whatever the appropriate term is today) the game would have gone exactly as it did. And you would have been completely fortunate to have been a member of the party, or even watching from the shadows.
Same. I'm having a hard time getting started and finding a group to join. I've been like brainstorming my ONE character's backstory for almost 3 months now. And DoD is an amazing group of people fyi. :-)
Funny thing, the deck of illusions that the gang picked up has a gnoll in it. No one had ever seen a gnoll before the meteor. No one had gone in the treasure room since before the meteor.

Veo's invisible Mage Hand was greatly played out, just as Sebastian 'Firestarter' Crow's ritual Find Familiar! Also, I hope we will see when Pluto fights against magic users (breaking their concentration on their spells)! I hope that you don't want to meet with the Lord of the Feast alone -> ask help/support from the other factions. The audio and video quality of this session are pretty good (however, I have not heard the background music at all). And luckily, this time the camera focus on the Dwarwen Forge miniature was enough sharp (and not blurred) - appreciate it. Stabilized delirium - aka 'Pearl of Power', tailored to the campaign - great idea Monty! Five 'dead' flies - tricky and risky mechanism to open a secret door! ;) Gentle note: @Kelly: Wall of Fire can be casted on a solid surface - definitely not on water. @Monty, enjoy your travelling holiday!

The most effective weapons against vegetables would be a giant rabbit and a mandoline. Where is a Bard with a "mandoline" when you need one? He could use it as a musical instrument like a hillbilly using a washboard. I can just see someone LARPing a bard and saying he is going to play a song on his mandoline and instead of whipping out a string instrument he whips out a cucumber and a slicer and sings a recipe for cucumber salad.
Awesome.Umm,good group and always fun to watch.Two weeks ago my party full of bards got killed,and my character an Gensai/fighter/ua-brute was the only player character that survived.So now I have to make an new character.
They did not let River and Academy mages know about the Queen... At this state Mages are almost the only hope for her. Likely they could just freeze her in some stasis or other dimension and give everyone time to figure out what to do to her. And then they also have some means to treat her. Giving Queen to Academy (with her guards) is the utmost important thing that the team can currently do. Queen is dying in paladins and city gurads hands, they don't have any solutions to save her, so their only solution is her death. Give the Queen to the Academy and let them treat her, if they can.
Aww Jill missed a great opportunity there, if she had gone assassin instead of arcane trickster she could just blow everything up on first round combined with her dread ambusher.
I think mold earth should have a shovel be the material component required, the somatic requirement is a scooping motion, and verbal component is "phew, my lower back"

It was nice to see how did you roleplay your received new abilities! Veo's invisible Mage Hand was greatly played out, just as Sebastian 'Firestarter' Crow's ritual Find Familiar! Also, I hope we will see when Pluto fights against magic users (breaking their concentration on their spells)!

The most effective weapons against vegetables would be a giant rabbit and a mandoline. Where is a Bard with a "mandoline" when you need one? He could use it as a musical instrument like a hillbilly using a washboard. I can just see someone LARPing a bard and saying he is going to play a song on his mandoline and instead of whipping out a string instrument he whips out a cucumber and a slicer and sings a recipe for cucumber salad.

Why does Monty never have any enemies to shake their allies out of the hypnotic pattern, makes the spell way more powerful than it should be.
They did not let River and Academy mages know about the Queen... At this state Mages are almost the only hope for her. Likely they could just freeze her in some stasis or other dimension and give everyone time to figure out what to do to her. And then they also have some means to treat her. Giving Queen to Academy (with her guards) is the utmost important thing that the team can currently do. Queen is dying in paladins and city gurads hands, they don't have any solutions to save her, so their only solution is her death. Give the Queen to the Academy and let them treat her, if they can.
Not calling you crow "Murder" is such a lost opportunity.
