That was super cool, I love hearing you speak Dutch. I'm trying to learn some Dutch using Duolingo, and it was fun to see how much I could kind of understand :D
It's sooo entertaining to hear you speak Dutch for such a long stretch. Definitely noticed that as it went on you got more comfortable. And to hear what happened to your accent. Very nice :)
That was really neat for two reasons. First, it's Dutch. Second, it's a story about you that I hadn't heard before and I enjoyed hearing it! Thanks for posting this, Saskia!
My grandmother emigrated to Canada when she was young as well. Because she passed away when I was seven, I only learned a few words on Dutch from her. This wraps me in warm memories, and I'm looking forward to more videos like this. :) Maybe some Dutch lessons? Dank je!
That was really cool! I used to have Dutch classmates in school and so whenever we had our German classes they could already understand bits of the German we were being taught since it's similar.
I immigrated to Canada when I was 5 . My dutch is like a 5 year old, MY husband and I went for a trip to Holland when I was 48. We visited many relatives and they were so gracious about my childlike dutch. We visited a family with children and those kids were very honest. They said to me, " YOu talk funny dutch".
Loved this, Saskia! So neat to hear you speak in your native tongue. It was also interesting to hear how your family came to Canada. I'd love to see more like this! What type of work did your father do?
It sounded really well! En even better if you realize you left here when you were 12, I thought the story about the emigration was really interesting! hope to see more in dutch soon :)
Super leuke video!
Great video. I loved hearing your dutch. You remind me of my cousin in that she lived in Colombia until she was 12 and moved to the U.S. with her brother and dad and hit the ground running. She started school and activities and she says the same about her spanish that she only speaks it at a 12 yr old level. Her her accent is a little off but my accent is worse. I never lived outside the U.S. and only learned the language from speaking it at home.
Great video! Wish english didn't have such a linguistic monopoly. I love dutch and german, wish we heard more from them in today's media. Greets from england, keep up the great work :)
My parents never taught my brother and I Dutch (still a bit irritated about that) but I could pick out a lot more words in there than I thought I'd be able to. Some from similarities to English, and some I'm not sure why :) Maybe I heard relatives using them when I was a kid. Probably not really :) You make me want to learn Dutch! I'm kinda still working on Japanese though. :)
My kids have English and Japanese (their English isn't as good as the Japanese unfortunately) But I doubt any future grand kids will speak both! I actually want to learn Italian but I should probably work on improving my Japanese first :)
@@saskiavanell I came back to say thank you! I've been using DuoLingo since you recommended it. Right now I'm on a 380 day continuous streak for learning Dutch. I've even recommend it to several of my students for them to practice English :) Please make some more videos. English and Dutch. Haven't seen anything from you in far too long :)
Ja! Half mijn boekenkast is in Nederlands!
Very interesting to listen to, I took a tiny amount of German at some point, and can hear some of the similarities. Nonetheless, this was very entertaining to listen to.
That was super cool, I love hearing you speak Dutch. I'm trying to learn some Dutch using Duolingo, and it was fun to see how much I could kind of understand :D
That's awesome! I tried Duolingo for Italian but I got distracted. Maybe I should get back into it.
Us Canadians absolutely love the Dutch. We will never forget, and will always be there for our friend, the people of the Netherlands
It's sooo entertaining to hear you speak Dutch for such a long stretch. Definitely noticed that as it went on you got more comfortable. And to hear what happened to your accent. Very nice :)
Haha yeah I notice that every time I go to Holland as well. The first couple days are a disaster but towards the end it goes very well!
That was really neat for two reasons. First, it's Dutch. Second, it's a story about you that I hadn't heard before and I enjoyed hearing it! Thanks for posting this, Saskia!
Thanks for watching!
That was so cool. Im from Germany and I understood a bit what u were talking. Nice video Saskia!
Awesome! Thanks for watching :)

Geen probleem! No problem! I will definitely make more Dutch videos!
That was really cool! I used to have Dutch classmates in school and so whenever we had our German classes they could already understand bits of the German we were being taught since it's similar.
Yeah I can sort of understand German. My Dad knew it so he would speak it every so often.

His official business was Tool & Die maker. He fixed a lot of machines and things.
I have a lot of respect for people who work with their hands. It really is like an art.

Haha I like that you wrote your comment in two languages!
You need to keep it understandable for everyone :P

Oh ja! Dat was ik helemaal vergeten! Leuk dat je mee leeft :D
That was really cool, I'd definitely be into more Dutch videos :)
Awesome! Glad you liked it.
You're really good in Dutch! Dutch is a hard language to learn!
And now I finally know how to pronounce Schiphol :D. Definitely a video in Dutch every once in a while would be awesome!
Haha you're welcome :D I think I might do that!

I love hearing other peoples stories! Thanks for sharing! And the accent doesn't matter! Knowing multiple languages is awesome!
Duim omhoog (thumbs up) voor deze video, Saskia.
Dankjewel!
Thank you, I was hoping you would still do this.
You're welcome! :D
Is Canada better to live in than the Netherlands from your point of view?
Loved it! I also want to emigrate to Canada so much, it's really hard being a young woman from Mexico though, hope I get to do it soon
Yeah. I was 12 so I don't know a ton about it but you definitely have to pass a bunch of "tests." Best of luck!!
Great video! Wish english didn't have such a linguistic monopoly. I love dutch and german, wish we heard more from them in today's media. Greets from england, keep up the great work :)
*_"Wish english didn't have such a linguistic monopoly"_*
What's so bad about having a language that a lot of people know how to speak????
This was awesome!! :)
Yay!!
Leuke video Saskia,.... Keep 'm coming!!
Bedankt!
That was neat. I especially appreciate the subtitles because I dont know a lick of Dutch.
Haha glad you liked it!
Wow, je spreekt hartstikke gaaf Nederlands! Complimenten hoor!

I definitely want to make sure I teach my future kids Dutch. Corrado doesn't know any Italian and it blows my mind. I hear Duolingo is very useful!
My kids have English and Japanese (their English isn't as good as the Japanese unfortunately) But I doubt any future grand kids will speak both! I actually want to learn Italian but I should probably work on improving my Japanese first :)
Oh, I didn't realize Duolingo is a website! :) I thought maybe it was another term for bilingual :) I'll have to check that out :)

This is awesome! :)
Glad you like it!
I don't understand much Dutch, but this was very pleasant to the ear. 😊
Yay! Glad you liked it :)
Yaaaas! More Dutch videos!
:D
Ja! Half mijn boekenkast is in Nederlands!
Very interesting to listen to, I took a tiny amount of German at some point, and can hear some of the similarities. Nonetheless, this was very entertaining to listen to.
Yeah I can't speak German but if someone is speaking it I can usually figure out what they're talking about.
Dennis Bergkamp...he's Dutch.
Lol yep. That he is.
Wat een verhaal zeg! ;-)
More Dutch storytime! Haha
I'll get on that!
Hier moet je er meer van maken!
That moment you start a video thinking you could just listen while working and it's in Dutch. XD
Haha oops!
Very nice. Umm. I hope we don't have to comment in Dutch. HAHA.
Nope! All languages accepted. Although I might not understand all languages haha
Wow! 0 dislikes :D
Bilingualism is cool!
I think so too!
You should hear my English, terrible !!!
Vrede! lol
Haha ja!
You have a really thick amsterdams accent
