An intra-articular injection is a procedure where a hypodermic needle is injected into an affected joint to administer necessary medications. The procedure treats gout, tendinitis, bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, psoriatic arthritis, and occasionally osteoarthritis. It is also used to remove excess fluid from the joint. The corticosteroids in the injection help to reduce joint inflammation. One of its side effects is that it can cause increased joint pain within the first 24 hours. It can also cause changes in skin colour at the injection site.
