I just stumbled upon your podcast and am enjoying the first 5:26 minutes! lol I wanted to jump in and tell you my favorite author who has only written 2 memoirs and a fiction story. BUT . . . . her writing is absolutely amazing--her description, her true life events depicted incredibly by the way she puts words together--Susan Richards. Start with "Chosen by a Horse." I have her books in audio and I listen to them again and again so I can be re-delighted over and over with her style, writing talent and how her life evolved and she became much more whole, etc. OK. Now I will finish your podcast! lol
Always wonderful catching up with you, Emily! I started out with crochet too. When I found Ravelry, it blew my mind with all the inspiration. Up until that point, I was a very basic knitter. Like you, It really inspired me to go beyond the basics of knitting. You’re so generous to celebrate your milestone birthday in that way. Thanks for sharing. ❤
That is one of my all time favorite books , Before We Were yours by Lisa Wingates. You need to read it Emily. The ending is quite surprising, not to mention it is true.
Both of these are excellent audible. A Lovely War by Julie Berry. This is world War 1 and 2 told in the eyes of the mythical Greek gods. Don't knock it. Even my friends dad couldn't wait to hear more on a road trip they did listening to it. It is a tiny but "aphrodite" in the beginning but I don't do open door romance and I don't remember it being terrible. It was recommended in a homeschool mom group lol A Place to Hang the Moon by Kate Albus. It's a teen book but I tune in every time my daughter is listening to it around the house.
Emily, thanks for sharing your knitting/ health journey. I found it interesting and hope you continue to feel well going forward! I’m also happy to learn about new books! Here’s a couple that I’ve loved recently-Glory Over Everything and Crow Mary-both by Kathleen Grissom. And The Little Liar by Mitch Albom. Oh! Your shawl is just stunning!!
Hi Emily, I just received my very first order from you & I am so, so happy. I stocked up on DK for socks and can't wait to get started knitting. If you enjoy the Shetland series and the new Matthew Venn books you might want to check out the Vera series by Ann Cleeves. I am an Audible reader and love a good murder mystery, suspense or police procedural. Lately I have been delving into some Icelandic mystery series by Arnaldur Indridason and Ragnar Jonasson. They are very dark but keep me fully engaged and excited about the next page. Happy knitting!
@@cindykeene7177 I've read the Vera series as well. I like the idea of the others you recommended. I'll have to look into them. So glad you love the yarn!
Emily, love your vlogs! A book that stayed with me that has botany in it and a great story was The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. You will enjoy it❤
I broke my right shoulder So I am pretty incapacitated. I will go to a rehab center tomorrow . My daughter and husband can’t take care of me, but I do have my books and you tube so I sure enjoy your videos. I will have to put knitting aside for a while. I hope you have a happy birthday and many more.
I have enjoyed the following books on Audible. The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton Women of Chateau Lafayette by Stephanie Dray Once We Were Brothers by Ronald Balson and The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. The Tea Rose series is my FAVORITE series that I have listened to again and again . Be well.
I thought you had been knitting for ages. You are so accomplished with your designing and knitting. I enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club. I recommend listening to that one. It has different people reading the parts. I really enjoyed Hester by Albanese. Apples Never Fall by Moriarty is another good one. I actually listened to all of these, and they were well done. Kim
Your shawl turned out gorgeous! love the color combination. It’s amazing. For book recommendations have you read What the wind Knows by Amy Harmon She also has other books that I really enjoyed.
Hey Friend! Two favorite books that stay with you for weeks after you finish them: The Kitchen House (Kathleen Grissom); The Forest of Vanishing Stars (Kristin Harmel). Both have beautiful, compelling stories, great character development, and will draw you in. Enjoy! 💛
Weather forecast sounds amazing. It’s 88 ferinhieght and I sweat more in the 15 minutes I was outside just now than I did in the hour I was at the gym this morning.
A Soul As Cold As Frost series by Jennifer Kropf. This book is intended for teens. I read the series earlier this year and found the writing beautiful. The wives of Henry the Viii series by Alison Weir is very good if you like historical fiction. Maisie Dobbs book series by Jacqueline Winspear is a great mystery series.
Thank you for this video ❤ I'm assuming you live in Salt Lake City. Where do you buy yarns in the city? Visiting soon and would loove to get some yarn souvenirs!
Have you read The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah? Another beautifully written one with that connection to the landscape and nature (Alaska) read with great characters and a compelling story. One of my more recent faves! I am finishing Where the Crawdads Sing right now for the very first time and loving it!
Loretta Ellsworth’s novel: Stars Over Clear Lake is one of my most favorite books. It’s a stirring story about the POWs who were imprisoned in the Midwest during WW II. I live in northern Iowa where the story takes place. It’s historical fiction -excellent read.
I was very interested in your sharing your love of books. I, too, am a picky reader. I love the classics, and Jane Austen is probably my favorite. Please, please, please try Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache series. She is a wonderful writer and has a good heart and soul, as evidenced in her amazing characters. I am so thankful that I found her very special books.
Remarkably Bright Creatures excellent book- a feel good read. The Storied Life of AJ Fikry, is interestingly written and a great story. I listened to both of these books.
I love how you describe your taste in books! I, also, enjoy a good romance but draw the line at smut. Have you tried any of these? The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell Little Fires Everywhere, Celeste Ng Gilead, Marilyn Robinson Caroline, Sara Miller Peace Like a River, Leif Enger The Time-Traveler’s Wife, Audrey Niffenegger Beartown, Frederik Backman Bel Canto, Ann Patchett I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith
I wonder if you could take the leather piece off your jumbo flyer maiden and just soak it in leather. Also if you over ply your yarn you can run it back through and remove twist. Its always better to over ply than under.
Like you I love to read, but do not read what you call smut. Some book recommendations: Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse (it seems like a middle school book, but I found it very moving); Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon (historical fiction about a real 18th century midwife); An Episode of Sparrows by Rumer Godden (this one had me hooked at the first sentence); I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith (I have reread this one at least three times); The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn.
Thank you so much for sharing your sweet and tender Knitting story. Thank you so much for always being so genuine and kind.
