Not really, Journey to the Past is all about Anya reconnecting with her past and her identity, whereas 'Let It Go' is about Elsa turning her back on her past and disowning it. Defying Gravity is more of proto-'Let It Go'.

i love how liz callaway’s version is more curious, doubtful that her life can’t possibly be Just That, just orphan anya with no past or future, and it’s what makes her step forward and actually seek her identity
meanwhile christy’s version is hopeful, like she’s almost there! the one thing she longed for so long is by the edge of her fingertips and she’s moments from celebrating.
it’s the same song but very different tonally and it’s amazing im OBSESSED!
I saw the show last year and the tone shift makes even more sense! In the movie, Anya sings this at the beginning when she decides to go to St. Petersburg and when she is doubting whether it's the right choice.
For the Broadway show, they shifted the order of the songs so that this one ends the first act (I cried my eyes out the entire time) Instead of her standing over St. Petersburg, she is overlooking Paris, hoping that her lost family will be waiting for her.
Well, Journey To The Past is the Act I finale, where the trio had already reached Paris. So it makes sense. Anya's anticipating how her future could end up.

She may not have the belting power of an Allison Luff, but she totally makes you for it with her emotional connection to the character and the lyrics. She has this purity about her that comes across so endearingly

Anastasia is one of my favorite characters- and Christy plays her so beautifully!!!! I love it- im so excited that this has finally become a stage musical. One day i might actually get to see it/perform in it!

Everybody who will be seeing it on Broadway needs to cherish it. A lot of people would give a great deal to be in their shoes.
I'm a California boy and never been to NYC. Someday I will and see a show that both me and my mom would enjoy together.
I have been to New York once. Back in the late 90's when I was only nine. And the family explored Lower Manhattan under the guidance of a relative. Which was really cool. But we never made it to the theatre district sadly.
One day I am going back and making it my own trip. And the plan is to catch at least three Broadway shows. I have no idea what they will be. Whatever they are, I will savor every second of them. As a massive theatre nerd, it is only fitting.
If Anastasia is still playing when I can finally take my trip. I would happily go see it. It looks and sounds superb. :)
That's nice if I were to pick three shows currently on Broadway I want to see it would be Aladdin, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Hello Dolly.

I'm listening to this on repeat since I couldn't make it to the first preview on Broadway, but at least I got to see it at the Hartford Stage which was such an experience. I can now officially say that this is my favorite Broadway show

Fionna Adeline it's a lot different from the movie. Anya, Dimitry, and Vlad are all still the major characters, but the backstory of how Anya lost her memory and her family are more rooted in reality than the fantasy of the movie. There is no Rasputin as the villain.
Well Joy. The movie did scare me as a kid but the historically accurate twist on the story is why I'm seeing this new version whenever it goes on tour.

I saw it over the weekend with a friend and Christy Altomare was so sweet at the stage door. My friend and I wanted a picture with her but she had already moved on to the next group of people but she heard us, turned around, took pictures with us and hugged us.

She is great, no debating that, and I think she's a perfect Anastasia, but I personally, when I hear this song, want a little more volume and strength. She was putting all she could into the song, and i don't blame her, I just want to hear more, especially on that last verse after the bridge.
I totally agree with you. I saw her in Hartford in the tryout. She's absolutely perfect for the role acting-wise, and she does a perfectly serviceable job with the singing, but I do wish she was a bit more powerful of a belter to really build this number to a chill-inducing first act finale. It doesn't help that before I saw the show, I had watched Alison Luff's rendition on TH-cam like 7,000 times and she blows the roof off the joint singing this.

Just watched Allison Luffs rendition, and OH MY GOSH! It was so powerful and full, really stunning job. I wish there was a person in between Allison and Christy, they would be the absolute perfect Anastasia.

Anastasia has been one of my favorite animated movies of all time, and I've always kind of predicted that one day it would be made into a musical. I'm dying to see this, although I'm not from the States myself.
The amount of times I’ve listened to this is unhealthy.

I've heard Once Upon A December all the time despite never seeing Anastasia growing up. I wonder why this is the first time I'm hearing the song- it is just as beautiful.
Trust me I was scared of the movie partially as a kid. But if I were you, I would watch it before you see the show so you can be a little familiar with the basic plot and most of the music.
Manuel Orozco I'm already pretty familiar with it- my brother is a huge fan, and I'm a big history dork, so I know the story of Anastasia, and that they found her body and she's super dead so this is a work of fiction, and I read the Wikipedia article about the differences between the two (and at least when I read it there was a hilarious typo that implied Dmitry tries to kill Anya in the movie) but if I can dig up our copy I'll try to watch it before I go to New York next month!
Just be ready to be scared in pieces. But this new version will be slightly different. I didn't even hear the true story of Anastasia until my sophomore year of high school in my Modern World History class.

Possibly not. I just have developed an interest in this new show with the fantasy elements now out of the picture.
