  • Hey everyone! Today's video is some playtime with these fun ArtGraf Tailor shapes, as well as a little rant about the joys of social media ;) Enjoy!
EDITED: I just narrated another video, that will be up later this week, explaining my problem with negativity online. I also want to promise you I will not bring this up again after that video. This is my happy corner of the internet and I know many of you come here to escape negativity. I promise I will keep it positive and inspiring, and after that video, no more talking about annoying things, only beautiful watercolors!

You can make anything work, definately not for me.
I received my Fabriano journal which is the same paper as yours, Wow,...first the paper is beyond cream almost yellowish, I was not expecting that, second the paper does not feel like anything I have ever used, it is like a cross between arches cold press and a thick paper towel. It just keeps absorbing water and does not buckle,, it takes longer to dry, but holds the color so you can just keep adding layers! it is perfect for me to practice copying your style, which is why I bought it. Once I adjusted to the feel and sizing of the paper I created a piece that I love, which rarely happens I can see why you love this journal! Thank you for the great find and to the viewer who found it on Cult pens, I will be having many happy mornings spent with this journal. Since imitation is the highest form of flattery, I am not ashamed to admit that I try to use similar supplies and the feel of the derwint water soluble charcoal pencils as they scratch across the paper then bloom into a rich color when they hit water is so satisfying and strangely addictive and it works on this paper better than any other I have been using. You have brought me such joy during such a difficult time, I can not thank you enough. Delete the trolls and move on, life is too short!

I like everything you created with this. Isn’t it fun to paint large portraits sometimes?
Sorry you had to deal with an unpleasant comment.
Everyone that knows you loves you and we love watching you play with lots of different materials. We also love that you give your opinions on what you are enjoying or not enjoying so that we can make wise purchases. Thanks so much for sharing this Sunday video.✊🏾💕

I really liked that first floral one, very loose and abstract. Watching you use these makes me wish I could handle mess better, they look so fun.
I've never understood people who watch hauls or unboxings just to comment about how it's a waste of money or how they'd never spend that. These vids are either informative or entertainment, if they're not having fun they can just go watch something else?

Oooh I love what you did with these! And the inktense blocks. Beautiful! Ignore miserable people, do not engage in conversation, delete and block!! It never fails to surprise me just how many horrible people leave negative and nasty comments on social media. Very sad individuals. Thank you for your wonderful videos, they always cheer me up and inspire me. 🙂💖💗💟

It's fascinating to watch you work with these blocks. Especially when you go in with your hand and move paints with your fingers, because it sometimes feels like a natural instinct to do. :) Until now, I've seen these blocks only used with brush, but I enjoy to see you use all the tools available. Very enjoyable video and entertaining. Now I want to try them too :D

I loved watching this demo and am very fond of the Artgraf products. They are so incredibly beautiful when used with water, as you have done. I’ve never tried the white one, so thank you for showing the beautiful mixing effects you can get with it! I mainly use the Artraf for very expressive, loose sketching and just playing with the medium. Your portrait is gorgeous. Thank you again!

I have been eyeing these for awhile.. I have their small graphite tin and the XL tinted graphite from Derwent.. you may have given me a nudge! You are my spirit animal and always a shopping influence! I can also relate to your stance with art supplies.. sometimes I'm serious and pick logical things that are lightfast and the best professional quality.. sometimes you just let loose and get the neon, fugitive colors, or some wacky, messy, sparkly, weird shape, child-like thing for FUN!!!

I think they are very intriguing. Seems like a great tool if you are working on a very large space. You can cover a lot of ground in a hurry, and then add other mediums to it like you did. I think they turned out very pretty! Especially the second one, which I would hang on my wall!

Irit...my 2 cents: Put negative comments on mute. None of us are everyone's cup of tea. Even the kindest, most beautiful, most talented people in the world have people who find an excuse to come at them. Nasty comments are a reflection of the commenters, NOT YOU.
Your videos have helped ME so much. I have painted more, experimented more, tried new products and techniques, put my art out there more, and gotten closer to finding my own personal style. That gift is priceless. So, THANK YOU! And please keep on being you and sharing your art and playtime with us!
Also, I agree with Alyonna...don't engage. I'd go a step further and both delete and block. People who hop in comments sections just to be nasty don't need to be tolerated or included, in my opinion.

I love that you try different supplies and play. That you share what does and doesn't work for you and why. It opens up options that we wouldn't have thought of and inspires us to pull out our own supplies and experiment. There is no joy in art if you don't also get to play with it.

I use these pigments in many of my pieces. They do take time to get to understand the way they work with water. I agree, they are not watercolor substitutes, but they can offer a different way of looking at your own art . I enjoyed the face piece using the brush. I like how you just attacked the shapes with the brush, and didn't care to rinse the brush, or worry about color blending on the shape itself. I'm inspired to try something new with my setup.

Again, another lovely video. I did see the negative comment, and thought " why did u watch this, and what was your need to comment?" There will always b those certain negative ppl in all walks of life... I just keep them out of my life. Just delete those comments, as your site is just a fun/informative site, and enjoyed by many. Your artwork is unique, and very pretty. Thanx for demonstrating the Artgraf blocks, as I had considered buying them a few years ago, but now know I doubt I'd use them much. Keep doing what U do, and never take those who are rude personally.

Hi Irit, I think people that leave negative comments thrive on the attention they get and I also think that it's their way of letting off steam. I am not saying that it's ok in any way. The internet makes it very easy to be extremely rude without showing who you are. Probably 99% of those people wouldn't speak that way in real life, face to face, but it's possible here on the internet. Oh and I think it's jealousy too. Maybe they aren't as talented or maybe they would like to try those supplies too but can't afford them so by talking them down or talking down your talents they are making themselves feel better. I love what you made with your new supplies, the second florals are lovely and I can't believe how easy you make it look to draw a face. Please keep doing what you do.

OMG I totally missed this video when it posted. I LOVE art graf. Never heard of them before until I took a mixed media intuitive painting class with artist Stan Kurth. My mind was blown. I only have a brown one, but you've inspired me to buy the entire pack. I love the messiness, and playtime lol. Honestly even these painting, although you said you don't like them, are beautiful to me. You are such an inspiration! You do you. And if a supply adds value to your way of expression, just enjoy it.
Actually, you recently feature a lot of supplies I used to own like Derwent pencils or these blocks. I owned the red, yellow, blue set, tried it, sold it. It didn't add value to my creative life. But I also own some supplies just for the purpose of mark making and playtime like my chalk pastels and pencils. Sometimes it is nice to have a different feel or texture to what you create.
Oh, and I really love the first picture and the face

So sorry for the negative comments. I like haul videos and will watch if it is something that I AM INTERESTED in. If you are not interested in art supplies then go elsewhere. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to show us your supplies and let us know your thought about them. If some of the things you buy may not be what you expected then we hear why. Yes I can be happy for you with your new supplies because I know when I buy I am thrilled. Your last haul video had me writing down things I might want to buy when I have the money. I love these new Art Graf blocks. I love how you used them and made me wish I had some!!!!!!! It was so exciting and nice to watch you paint with them. Hi from the Canary Islands! I just wanted to say that you are an open minded artist that experiments, searching more ways to create. That's what we all love from your art. I also love your reviews because you are honest - when you did not recommend the Schmincke Akademie watercolors for students, I just loved you and you were soooo right! ;) - I think that there are so many retro-minded artists that hate all the mix media stuff, all the new products they consider bad or wothless. They will never learn or find anything new and that's sad. So please, do not change! P.D.: I just loved the way you used these ArtGraf with the Inktense blocks! Chapeau! Thanks for the new ideas!

I love how you use multiple mediums in your artwork. There are some cranky 'purists' out there who would cry a river, and say to be a watercolorist you only use watercolor. And so on. But I love your loose, playful styles. Watching your videos really helped me understand just how to mix my medias together in my artwork. Sometimes it can seem a little dull to have just one medium on a piece.
Also, sorry you had to deal with a crummy user. But know that most of us in your community here are at least decent enough not to dismiss you because you use mixed media! You have a real talent for art and we love you for it.

I loved the first piece so much ♥️♥️♥️ it looked like you were having fun, and honestly when I ‘play’ it looks hideous (at least to me and probably everyone else) but I don’t care and I know that gesture and mark making is something that you have to practice and it is hit and miss also. This was fantastic play session! I would love to see you maybe try to recycle your test/swatch/less favorite into a mixed media piece or journal cover. I would love to know if you repurpose your scraps? I just hate throwing it in the bin, but struggle coming up with a unique up cycle. Sorry just rambling now…just love your work and appreciate your content

Thanks Laurie! I admit I am guilty of throwing out a lot. I try to use both sides and then use every scrap for swatches and such, but I have learned that if I don't regularly purge I end up buried in piles of papers and no idea what to do with them.

But you have always been a Mixed Media Artist? Of course you need all kinds of art supplies. I have gotten things from people like that too, always on the internet. I don't think most of them would be that insistant or "pushy" in real life, but people can get really obnoxious online.. I love the fact that you use different things. I use watercolor pencils with my watercolors now, without washing away the lines. Something I never though was "allowed" before watching you. I am considering getting some neocolor 2 as well. I want to have fun with my art, not feel restrained.

I actually love what you created with these! Especially the florals. You give me so much inspiration I don't know what to do with it! haha.
On your serious topic, art is so subjective, especially how we use our materials. Ultimately how anyone uses their materials is not for any of us to judge. Sure, we don't have to do the same but art of all things is about freedom, fun and expression; all of which is inherently individual.
Keep being your wonderful self and your final piece of advice about being prepared to engage in respectful conversation (if you post a comment) is a great one :)

it would be nice to see them in a monocromatic set or something for sure.. also, as much as i like to use my fingers, I dont really like having it everywhere .. lol

I think the earth tones set would work well for many artists who do prep work or sketches for landscapes or portraits.

I love the loose and playful way this art supply worked with your style! It was definitely neat to see. I enjoy your work. What brush are you using at the end btw? Thanks so much!

If memory serves it's a cheap brush that came with a set meant for Chinese style brushwork with ink and watercolor. I've had them for years and use them with my more affordable or cheap art supplies, as well as when I paint with my kids. Hope that helps a little...

Oh my gosh, you're so right! I feel rude now, when I asked earlier if you knew the difference between the red oxides. I'm sorry! I appreciate all of your videos! 🌻

Don't give it another thought Hannah! People who regularly comment and I'm familiar with are always welcome to ask questions without pleasantries, but strangers have to be more polite 😉

It's just a paper pad, nothing special, good for practice. I haven't found the name of it, the cover is light blue and it's 300GSM.
