Oh a cool room or cold colets back before the 1800's but still used even today where electricity may not be available. Don't let the name mislead you, a cold closet is not the same thing as an icebox. An icebox was a free-standing piece of furniture that held a big block of ice near the top to keep the contents frozen. (Icemen delivered new blocks of ice every day, just like the milkman.) A cold closet, on the other hand, was built into the house and couldn't actually keep things frozen, just cool. So while you could keep your veggies and cheese and meats cool, stocking ice cream in the cold closet would be a bad idea we had one when I was a child many moons ago

Personally, I have my favorite place on your property....its the meal table in at the window where refreshing sunlight casts it color tingling light. The same like shades of orange sing across the tables cloth, windowsill trim & those seat cushions-when the fresh long white candle sticks gently flicker & the wine bottle is readying to give sustence. Secretly- i imagine being there,following a long day of sharing chores, while getting to know one another.

Life is hard and busy when you live as you do but the rewards are huge and multitudinous. Your video was not "messy", as you say, it was beautiful as usual. I can't imagine having a new born to look after and all that needs to get done in the spring. It sure is a busy time of year. There is always so much to do on the farm. Ivar is such a beautiful baby. I loved your video, it is real life. The cold room that leads into your home we call it a Porch or a Mudroom. You are doubling its' use, by using it as a Pantry. My great-grandparents had a farstu on their home in wintery Wyoming, USA, they called it the front porch or patio. It was a great place to take off wet boots and not track the cold into the living area. I also agree with another comment, I love the sound of nature, thank you for not ruining the view with added music.

Love your stories and the great videos. We grew up in New England in the US. In the state of Maine we would call the farstu an mud room. It is not heated and is the place where we took off our coats and boots to keep the house clean. It also keeps the heat in the house when we went in and out.

You both are an awesome young couple and it is good to see ‘goodness and normalcy’ in our crazy messy world. I am probably your oldest subscriber 70 years +. I grew up on a farm and feel very blessed to be a farm girl. Married my high school sweetheart and we have six children all grown up living their lives in bigger cities. My husband dies quickly from cancer 13 yrs ago. I retired last year so my life isn’t too exciting these days. But your vlog videos make me smile in the way you work together with very little. The way you love your animals and care for them and now your beautiful baby Ivar is blessed by wonderful loving parents. I love watching and listening to your day to day and season to season living. It brings back memories for me. I will be a patron soon and want to help in the little way I can. Wool is a natural fiber, and it is temperature-regulating, so it keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Love your stories and the great videos. We grew up in New England in the US. In the state of Maine we would call the farstu an mud room. It is not heated and is the place where we took off our coats and boots to keep the house clean. It also keeps the heat in the house when we went in and out.

As for the solar that you have been given, even if you don't think you need it so much now, please do take the advantage of the GIFT some gifts only come along free once in a life time.. you can always put it in at your connivance...just don't let it slip through your fingers.....as you know solar is not cheep and its even more expensive to get it started from nothing...but with something it's a little easier ...I know from exp i have been working on my system for 5 years and i am still not finished but if i had had some panels to start the process with, it would have been so much easier.....to build up....Keep pushing foreword, always foreword, NEVER LOOK BACK.....Tomorrow is always the New day...!!!
I first came across one of your videos about three weeks ago. I loved the video and decided to start from the beginning of your life on Talasbuan. Just finished video #62. You both are an awesome young couple and it is good to see ‘goodness and normalcy’ in our crazy messy world. I am probably your oldest subscriber 70 years +. I grew up on a farm and feel very blessed to be a farm girl. Married my high school sweetheart and we have six children all grown up living their lives in bigger cities. My husband dies quickly from cancer 13 yrs ago. I retired last year so my life isn’t too exciting these days. But your vlog videos make me smile in the way you work together with very little. The way you love your animals and care for them and now your beautiful baby Ivar is blessed by wonderful loving parents. I love watching and listening to your day to day and season to season living. It brings back memories for me. I will be a patron soon and want to help in the little way I can. @@mistymockingbird3511 Yes. Knitted wool is much more breathable than polyurethane laminate diaper covers. Those don't breathe at all. Wool is a natural fiber, and it is temperature-regulating, so it keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In warm weather, instead of using long pants, you do little bloomers (called a wool soaker or shorties).
