As a highly creative (yet perfectionist) person, one of my intentions for 2024 is to MAKE UGLY THINGS! To get over the fear of creating an “ugly” project. For too long I’ve let that stop me from creating the things I love to create. As the year has gone on, I’ve found myself being fond of my little ugly creations and the growth that they’ve provided to my skill set
EVERYTHING about your speech on the architecture of LA and the houses that seem like a kid just plopped different creations on a hill spoke to me so much. It is exactly how I feel and I think it is so interesting how different all the architecture of LA is, nothing is the same and somehow it all comes together into some strange beauty. I love this painting
Oh Arden it is so pretty. Art school kinda made me associate bad memories to painting, which is crazy because I actually love it aha. Very grateful for everything I learned, but the academic perspective made me loose touch with the fun and soothing aspect of painting. Thank you for making me want to pick up my paintbrushes again 💚 I wanna paiiiiiiint
I grew up watching you, and I have to say that this is my favourite Arden thus far 💕 How beautiful Arden! Please continue these series in London! Congratulations!!
loved every second of this one! the painting looks amazing and gives such warm vibes. perfect for the house. big big hug to you, Arden and Will!🐀 you two spending time on a couch was one of my favorite shots, so comforting. and the topic you are touching upon is berry relatable, thank you! i try to keep in mind that "it's okay to be bad" whenever i go to a climbing session. for as long as i'm trying - i'm enough and i'm dong my best.
love love love it's so gorgeous !!!!!!!! making the artwork in your own home is so special i could cry and i might actually cry rn but i think im also pmsing
This encouraged me a bit. I gave up drawing over 2 years ago. I've been trying to get back into it but I'm scared and have this obsession with perfection and creating a 10/10 piece of art.
Babe, you are doing great. As a person w a BFA the second one just mirrored what happens to a lot of us which is trying to fit into a box of meticulousness and cleanliness. I feel that the first one had the rawness and honesty, on top of creativity and talent, and the third one just felt like a breath of fresh air. The spaces in between really gave it room for air to contextualize the wholeness of the composition and feel of the environment you were painting. I love the scale of the houses, and the flatness of coloring, I feel it brings out the scenery and makes it feel encompassing. The red paint for line work really provides an aliveness combined with the shading and tones on top. I love it.
Sometimes what we deem as mistakes are actually the parts which give the essence to the thing we are working on and give it the quality which we otherwise wouldn't have been able to achieve. Keep having fun and enjoying your craft, I am truly loving this for you.
Arden!!!! I've been watching you for years on and off and knew you were creative but didn't know you were so talented at painting! It's a superpower. Your paintings are so beautiful, I would love to buy one.
this reminds me of when I painted a huge painting for an art exam… it was so large that at points I had to sit on the painting. god bless Mother Nature, she decided i would get my period out of the blue this day, but if I were to hang the painting in a gallery one of the materials I used was my own blood. it’s still hanging in that school now 7 years later
i am enjoying these painting videos so much. So inspiring. I used to paint all of the time and I just kind of stopped one day. This is making me want to pick up the brush again. Thank you for sharing :)
I love it so much! So characterful - like each little house has its own character with a story and makes me imagine which characters live in each home and what their own little stories are! The huge spaces in between and the repetitive but organic lines are very calming. Can't wait to see the next one! And thanks for sharing the process too - as an artist its really helpful to think of each piece as a learning step to the next. I need to read that book. xx
This is so, so inspiring, and exactly what I needed to see today. The way you so vulnerably showed work you didn't feel so proud of, but then showed us how it was a step on the way to rediscovering your skills and talents was so hopeful. Thank you
I love the delicious messiness of trying and being a human being. My dream of the afterlife is that I get to come back and do this all again. We are here to bleed, try and fail, succeed, fall in love, have our hearts broken, and feel everything. The time you burnt the pancakes and went out instead and then found your new fave breakfast spot in town is a much better story than the most perfect pancakes. I would choose to grow up with imperfect but love filled art on my walls painted by someone I love, like your mom or your spouse or sibling or best friend, over perfect prints any day. I was told once that we see ourselves and the things we make as a collection of parts- an awkward sentence in a novel that we couldn't figure out how to write another way, the one weird part of the painting that we wished we could fix but needed to walk away from the canvas so now it sticks out to us whenever we walk by, a nose, weird toes, wiggly bellies, that one part of our hair we missed with the bleach that no one notices but us but it looks so big to us that we can't understand how no one else sees it. But other people see us (and we see other people) as a whole. Sure, a nose looks weird stripped of context but it fits our faces so well and that sentence is one out of 1000 in a book with a great story and no one remembers it like we do. No one picks through everything we do with a fine toothed comb- and the people who do are insecure and trying to make themselves feel big. Make bad art, don't spiral if you burn dinner, let your life be a sitcom and make those failures into moments for connection, humour, joy, authentic emotions, and a funny story. Beautiful video, beautiful painting! Sorry about the poop but what a fun conversation starter that gets to be whenever someone sees it!
Ah man, I love this stuff. Been staring at a blank wall I have for months waiting to come across something that could fill it when I could be the one filling it! Genius!!!
love you and love this pookie, keep the simple paced videos coming esp with the state of everything at the moment - would love a video of you making jam in the future!
I am absolutely loving these painting videos, I’m experiencing the worst art block of my life and need all the inspiration for motivation I can get! Watching you so quickly improve upon this style is so fun, I’d be down for longer form painting vids for sure
First of all. You are an incredible artist. I LOVE your paintings. Secondly, YAY LONDON! So excited to see your life there! It’s always been a dream of mine to move to the UK. So going to live vicariously through you!
this painting is so stunning arden! the use of negative space adds a story to the unique houses and the textures are soooo good like seurat would be proud and the palm trees are so cute :) my only critique would be to add some shadows to the houses (not a lot but maybe a tad) to provide depth and you don't have to use grey but perhaps a darker green to continue with your landscape color palette, but overall so good cant wait to see more 💕
I'm learning to draw/create art again after 15 ish years of avoiding it out of fear, with the hope to start oil painting. Immediately I love this video. I feel like we're the same, somehow, even though I am definitely nothing like you at all. lmao
beautiful video! i just want to say that once my mom told me that being pooped on by a bird was good luck, so that simply makes this a lucky painting! the bird simply felt the need to impart some good energy onto the painting. maybe its wishing you luck for your upcoming move :)?
Beautiful paintings! Regarding the Visa, I've gone through it. It's nerve-wracking, but after 5 years, I have my indefinite leave to remain, and everything looks more accessible. I wish you all the best with your application!
THIS PAINTING and the story telling of this video. Massively enjoy your gifts :~)
Thanks doll and ditto to you 🥹🫶
“Nothing will stop you being creative so effectively as the fear of making a mistake.”
I needed this today. A reminder that I can just do.

i love that instead of painting over the first two canvases, u hold space for them❤️and continue to INCREASE the size of the canvas🙌😭❤️
I love seeing your journey back to creating. please keep sharing it it is very inspiring 😊

this painting is so you arden! thanks for sharing the creative process with us
The voiceover at the end sounds like the end of princess diaries when she’s on the plane to Genovia.
When I saw the thumbnail I was like “oooh where did she get that painting???!” It’s absolutely gorgeous, you did an amazing job!!
"eventually you've just got to put it on the wall". so true

inspiring 💫 final painting looks gorgeous, would love to know more about your learning/experimenting process!
Arden that is just the most beautiful painting of California I've ever seen (as a lifetime Californian)
