If someone has internet to watch a podcast, they can use it do to research too. Joe can't really be blamed if a person watching becomes transfixed with opinions of his guests.

He talks about how Joe does a great job of allowing people to speak, then says it's his biggest criticism. He is a journalist, but opposes letting people have a voice (at least when it's against his views). The whole point of the podcast is to hear a perspective you might not have considered.

Labeling ideas as "dangerous" and refusing to talk about them only causes people to willingly misunderstand and misrepresent them.

Whenever people use words like "dangerous" and "harmful" you know it's just a lazy ass argument. Next time someone does it, push back. You know i am not even a frequent joe listener, But i always found him left leaning.
He shares allot of my opinions on how to interact with others, and have a open conversation. Even if the topic is super wrong, racist, alt right, or just stupid.
I actually sometimes enjoyed it to learn how these people tick, and think. How they form these identities, or ideals in their mind.
Sometimes their just fake identities created for viewers and money, but sometimes they really do believe what their preaching is right. That's interesting to get into IMO.
I strongly agreed with X's take on this topic too. You will always find what you want to see show up. Except if you go out of your way to go look up multiple sources to get a neutral consensus for yourself.
Joe Rogan is kinda the same. He will have a super right leaning, but the next ep could be super left leaning guest. You need to watch more eps. to get a general consensus on his identity, and ideals.
Joe doesn't go out of his way to tell you he doesn't agree with the guests, because that would ruin the convo with the guest. But he already has a 2000+ eps. catalog behind him, so he doesn't have to explain his views every ep. that comes out. Just watch what he said in other eps with different guests.
Also you deal with allot of right leaning people IRL. Are you saying you would start interjecting, and converting that persons views even if it gets physical. Or ruin your work relationships, just because a co-worker said something racist, or outa pocket. I don't think so.
I mostly just let them talk. Then tell them i disagree, and why. Most of the time these type of people don't even have a retort, and either get angry or go into denial when there is no way to support their viewpoint anymore. But leave it at that. Just letting them know is enough.
Sometimes i even start agreeing with them, just to see how far this person is willing to go. How crazy will his claims get. How much work is he going to put in to try and convince me.
Also allot of the time these type of people are surrounded with yes man that either always agree with them, or people of the same opinion. Basically a IRL bubble.
Allot of the time giving these type of people a contradictory opinion helps them get back to a more neutral stance on certain points ya know. Even if they themselves don't even notice it. They will actually dial it back most of the time. As they get more contradictory opinions they will slowly shift a bit, and at least think twice about what they're reading. Before accepting them as fact. Yes they will stay right leaning. Most of the time their relatives, and friends are too. Maybe he will now become one with a better sense of reason in his groups, maybe even sharing some of the points i brought up in contradiction to see if they know how to make a good counterpoint. It's not a good mindset to have, but at least he introduced a differing opinion in his mind that stuck around enough to make him remember.
Well this got kinda off topic.
Well that's how i see it anyway.
