    I was waiting for this. Only Regal could turn the crowd from booing like that to cheering him after his promo. This was a masterclass on how to give promos in the business

    • @kipdaedricartifact

      No, a lot of people could do that, wrestling crowds are fickle, especially in AEW. Someone they like starts yelling with conviction they’ll start cheering. It’s not a miracle.

      @@kipdaedricartifact You're not wrong, I'd just focus on the "with conviction" bit. MJF put on another promo of a lifetime the week after Hangers tried to do the same. The former has the sincerity, skill, and the conviction. The latter just ended up gathering support among the already faithful and the others laaaaaaughed.
      Hope Hangers heals quickly, but gah-damn he could learn a thing from MJF. But Hangers is also on record not being particularly willing to learn so...guess we've just gotta hold on to MJF's conviction while it's here.

      @@Guy4318 Yeah it’s actually really pissed me off how nobody’s held Adam Page accountable whatsoever. Everyone’s blaming Punk, when Page and the Bucks started this whole thing by lying about Punk and spreading rumours for no reason. Punk was also completely right in calling Page an “empty headed dumb fuck” who refuses to take advice and learn from vets. Fucking moron and nobody’s holding him to it. Apparently it’s just Punk who’s egotistical and problematic. The dude was literally just defending himself. I hate wrestling fans.

    I loved Regal on this, this was one of those 'honest opinion' segments. Regal turned the crowd. I just love the "you haven't done anything", "your getting paid, for what?" especially if i feel it's real. Regal was good. "you want to be the villain (devil), going ahead, prove it".

    • @jackburton2680
      @jackburton2680 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's deeply problematic though cuz Regal should never had to of turned the crowd. Nothing MJF said should have gotten the crowd on his side. The gist of his promo was him crying and whining that Regal didnt hook him up with a major job in a major promotion after just 1 year of experience as a pro wrestler. I loved both promos, but the fan reaction was perplexing and actually tarnished it BIG TIME as their reaction objectively did not match what was actually being said.

      This is a great point, and - not to rag on Hangers too much but - that's why Hangers doesn't connect with me. He can talk about medicine and anxiety but none of it feels real, and all I see around him is a system that was specifically designed to make him an over world champion and he neither rose to nor seems to appreciate that fact. Kingston and MJF share one thing in their promos, and that's that they're both almost begging their opponent to try and make them small so that they can take their violence out on them. MJF definitely is one of the best things going for AEW right now. and i think the thing he managed to figure out for himself is understanding how to take the story of his life and slowly unfold it properly. and truthfully that is AEW's strength if they allow their talent to do so. When Punk came in and got to speak, people were with him because he got to tell the truth. i think when Saraya did her promo, the audience wanted to hear her story because they're emotionally invested into these people. and AEW occasionally allows the wrestlers do that. that's how Eddie Kingston partly got over.
    Regal obviously did great here and i was worried for one second that the crowd would turn on him or that MJF had just done that much better. Still, Regal getting the chance to show his story to get to the point of where MJF is still learning his lessons and developing right in front of our eyes was amazing.
    now, not all people should be telling their story because not all people are capable of executing that aspect. like Jungle Boy talking about being over his father's grave, it just was bleh. or Page trying to portray anger through insanity coming off more like a temper tantrum rather than understanding how to tell his side of the story was more humorous because it made him seem more childish than an adult. part of it is because i don't think the people like JB really believe their own stories that they're forcing. and you can tell these people are trying to search themselves to figure out how to be emotional like a method actor. but i find it all abstract because there's something missing. i really believe the word here is conviction. why go on a quest that really isn't your own? and again that conviction isn't there because i don't think the story really exist. they're digging and not finding it.
    but with MJF it sounds very plausible. everything he's said has been consistent, everything is very relatable and you can feel the anger boiling inside of him which has led him to make these questionable decisions. he's kinda like Mark Zuckerberg from The Social Network where he'll do anything to stomp out his enemies and just keep pushing even if it means alienating himself from everyone else. that's a real story you can latch onto and people can relate to. that's why he works and why i think it's easy for a guy like Regal or Punk to work with him because they have similar stories or situations that connect to his.
