I just finally ordered two of these because Amazon Prime Day, I was going to do it tonight. But I'll take your advice and just do it first thing when I wake up! I'm very much looking forward to the results, because I know I am very very mixed! Sadly makes it kinda hard to confirm things to my self. Since most of my knowledge is more vague. But for the people who do know what to expect, it's always been about that with a few surprises. What I am aware of, to my knowledge I'm: 25% British 25% German 18.75% Italian 18.75% African 12.5% Irish. Likely allot more I'd bet. Also my wife will be doing one as well. It's likely going to be closer to the latest expected time considering when I got mine. I'm sure they sold many kits on Prime Day.
I had taken the Ancestry Dna test a few years ago, just ordered this 23 and me test for health analysis report since ancestry doesnt have it. Having a few health issues needed to be resolved. Hope this helps me and my doctor.
Aaa yes the good old I came from a money report useful for finding your family tree relatives, thx for uploading I've been curious about 23 and me for awhile
My mom and I did Ancestry with our DNA and our search, and before we even got the DNA Results we had what I like to call the "Leafagdon" for a few months. Now whenever there is a leaf there is a DNA link. And I can now pin point the more iconic ancestors and be like " Oh hey there Fam." It's an interesting experience. I always wanted to do the 23 and Me one more just because of the Health and Neanderthal results but now Ancestry also has the Health thing. No Neanderthal though cause they don't check that. But I am pretty sure it's there.
While the Spanish & Portuguese percentage may be coming from your distant Sephardi ancestor, it isn't for sure that is the case as it could be coming from any of your lines. At only 1% it could be as simple as an error in the reading, an artifact, or it could be that one of your ancestors was actually Spanish and had moved to Germany where they had children with one of the locals. One of the problems with the admixture estimate percentages is that they are just estimates, so it's best to take all the information with a grain of salt. As you mentioned a little later in the video, things will change as more people test and they learn more about the origin of SNPs but it is usually those small percentages that will disappear.
@@UsefulCharts I'd suggest looking into also doing a MyHeritage kit (you can upload and pay a fee to get their admixture too), they are one of the few companies gutsy enough to attempt a Sephardi group, Mizrahi group, and Ashkenazi group in their admixture (although it has very high margins of error at the time being). All the other companies keep away from that and just define everyone under Ashkenazi Jewish (although Ancestry changed their wording to European Jewish). Even so, most Sephardi Jews who have proven paper-trails through triangulated cousins are mostly showing as Ashkenazi on MyHeritage and all the other websites.
Thanks for sharing. I am 100% Scandinavian and 90% more Neanderthal than other customers 15:18. I have paternal haplogroup G-L30. There are a lot of G's in Georgia / Caucasus. Stalin, Scarface etc. Criminals basically
I love the mouse cursor on your forehead. Also wanted to this for my mom before she died but that didn’t happen so I really want my two sisters and I to do it. Siblings tend to have different percents of what they are so say one may be more of one thing than the other and it’s quite fascinating
I’m not sure if I did this right yesterday. By the time I had enough saliva to fill up to the dotted line, the bubbles about filled the rest of the tube, so when I closed the cap and the stabilized fluid flowed in it caused an over flow. I sealed it up and sent it off anyway, but a little worried. Also, I saw you mentioned your relatives are from Donegal. I spent several days in donegal in February. Lovely place.
You probably won’t see this I just took the test today and had the same thing happen so I’m worried as well. Hopefully my results will be conclusive. I am excited a little nervous and scared but I really do want to know the results. I hope you got yours with no issues.
Is their a blood one that might be more potent. If not cool I just want the best results possible! Thank you so much for this video! I need to do this. Is there any other suggestions for DNA tests that might be more potent? If not cool.
@@UsefulCharts Interesting wouldn't have guessed that. Is 23&Me the most accurate or is their others. Cuz I'm tryna get everything EX: If it says Your 42% Iberian ME: HOLD MY BEER, - how much Spanish - how much Portuguese if any Is there: Arabic Berber Syrian Jewish Latin Greek Phoenician Iberian Celtic Visigoth Suebi Spanish Basque? How much of if any. That's just on Iberia and I know I got more than that a lot of French and African & they say Native American from the Arawak Taino peoples in Puerto Rico but Idk bout that one. Also Mestiso Mexican which mostly are Mayan; Nahuatl descendants are fewer. It might not go that deep but I'm hungry for my history so ya. Love your channel and keep up the great work! I will buy something I promise!
This seems interesting. For my results, I'd expect Portuguese and Sephardic Jewish, I think it is, from my father's side, and British from my mother's side through my great grandparents and my relatives before them.
Does your British-Irish DNA break down to areas of those places? like the French-German did for yours around Zurich. What part of Ireland does your family come from? Irish records are very sparse and hard to research beyond the 1800s. Even then, the 1800s are tough.
@@UsefulCharts Cool, Donegal is a great part of the country. Happy st Patricks. If I took this test I'd probably be quite boring. 100% British-irish. For the last 230 years (we can trace with certainty) all 16 lines of my family come from within 25km of each other in the same county of Clare. Not a very adventurous bunch.
OMG I have been sitting on doing my DNA test because i'm too scared to. My kids really resemble my husband in colour, who is white English and I am Black British (African decent). I'm wondering if i have European ancestors because my children were born looking white with blue eyes but i've been reluctant to take the DNA test. Please can you show our channel some support as i'm going to take the test and reveal the results on my channel.
Very late but you might have a small amount of it. In America, most of us black people are mixed with European DNA (like 10-25% European on average). Biracial kids with black and white parents can end up having more European features due to this. Mostly having thinner noses, type 2 or 3 hair, and sometimes colored eyes.
Hey man, a few things about the percentages: we all get 50% of our genes from each of our parents. however, our sperms or eggs contain a random combination of the genes of those parents. they are not split 50:50 necessarily. so in most cases, you do not give the same amount of your fathers as of your mothers genes to your kids. one of them will usually be more than 50% of your "contribution" (so more than 25% of your childs DNA) while the other one will be a bit less. this means your 32% irish heritage might actually be just your grandma. it is a very common misconception that we all get equal shares from each of our ancestors. that is simply not correct. it is theoretically possible that someone has no genes in common with one of their grandparents (that can theoretically be the case if all of the genes in your sperm happen to be either from your fathers or mothers side).
amazing results!!! have you done any comparison between companies? I did with 24genetics and I'm very happy, do you recommend me to do it with 23andme?
I did mine on my heritage. It's all very interesting, but I'd hoped for some variety in my DNA. I got 96.4% my nationality and 2.6% Inuit/Eskimo. I'm quite curious about where that bit came from, as it is such a small percentage I'll likely never know.
Any thoughts about doing a CRI Genetics test? They have been advertising a lot. I tried it and got some odd results, such as a 4th generation Sri Lanka Tamil ancestor, which I know isn't true because I have photos of all eight of my great grandparents. Before you write anything I look sort of like my father.
Had a test like this lying arround for some weeks and was hesitating,. Like, what surprising result could I get anyway? You are probably like 80% german or something like that. So I sent the test in. And the result was surpriningly, I'm 65% english.what also explains a lot I guess...
Goranko Ilić Dalmatians aren’t actually “Slavic” they just speak a Slavic language but genetically they are very different from Russians or Ukrainians.
I bought mine in the states but will be using it in England and having it posted back to England. Will it matter that I had purchased it in the states?
Are these results mainly within the last 500 years ? I also got about 1% Spain and Portugal (my main ancestry was British and Irish with some German and French). I know we descend from a little Spanish royalty from the 1200's but wondered if that 1% like yours is from Spehardic Jewish within the last 500 years. I also had about 1% Native American on my very first test result but it disappeared with updates. I also wondered if we can access our old test results ?
Could you explain the Strength of DNA Relatives? For example, in your 6th cousin, he/she has more DNA segments but less percentage than a couple of your upper cousins in your family. I don't get it. - BTW, I follow your UsefulCharts and you are a genius. So interesting. Thank you.
They store it and do not share it unless you click the box that gives permission to share the info for research purposes. But even if they took your info and gave it away to anyone, there is very little anyone could actually do with your info, outside of scientific advancement. No one can use that info to steal your identity, no one can use it to frame you for a crime, it’s useless info for the majority of the world.
Matt DNA: Mostly "Barbarian", lol DogfaceSailor Mostly: Lancastrian with Druid roots, lol actually, Todmorden (near Manchester), England 1540 Willian Fielden 1750's to Anson Co. NC ("The Fielden Stream: Fieldens of East Tennesse"), and maybe William de Fielden to 1250's. How can I link to William de Fielden? Possibly a Norman. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL and analytical displays
You mention that the test gets more accurate the more people take the test. I do not fully understand this, because it does not solve the problem that people migrate. If people didn't migrate, then a larger sample leads to more precise results concerning location, but since people migrate, and migration metadata is not covered, a larger sample would not improve the precision, would it?
I feel more confident with 23 and me haplogroup designations... they stay back and generalize it. ft dna flipped me right out of my own family, as if I could be a 100% new mutation that takes 1000+ years to get. Very scary if it deletes your immediate relatives... I had zero matches, dating back 1400 years minimum.(it proves I had an error- and they do NOT back down when they make mistakes). Thanks for video. I am at 5 sites.. and it helped me find the serious mistakes (just haplogroups - which should have been the easiest part of it)
My grandpa did research about our family tree and proceeded very well, found thousands of relatives in the past. But we were not a well known family. So when I met my boyfriend 11 years ago, it was very surprising for both of us, that he knew my family's name and where we come from though we've never met before in any kind of way. And later it came out thats his ancestors and mine were married to each other app. 26 generations ago. Should I take the test? What do you think?
@???? both of our families didn't travelled that much over the centuries and we stayed in central europe (Germany, Prussia) so, we basically know exactly where our ancestors come from, while both of our families dates go back like 450 years.
can you do an updated 2021 review of your results assuming many more people have taken the test since then? May be more accurate now but I am curious as to any changes?
The problem with DNA tests is not all of your ancestors' DNA survives to the present. You only get 50% from each parent; the other 50%, which is lost, may contain unique information of a distant relative from an unknown region. However, your brother or sister may still have that information. I have been heavily involved in genealogy since 1994 and have over 25K people in my file. It has been a fascinating journey with many discoveries of historical personages. We are all cousins. I'm glad I discovered your channel, albeit a bit late. Subbed.
My paternal great great grandfather was supposed to be full Shawnee..but Ancestry DNA showed absolutely no Native American blood..I'm wondering if I should go for 23/me?
@@willbrown4046 they already have my dna, I had a baby 2 years ago. Got a genetic screening because I was over 35. So they test your blood and dna to see if there's chromosome risks. If you've been hospitalized, or gotten a blood test, they already have your dna.
@@kristingallo2158 I mean, you say this as if I'm not aware of how dna can be used. I want to be very clear, I've spent a lot of time reading about how dna can be used. I am fully aware of the benefits. But, I am also fully aware of how dna info can be sold and used and without your permission and without proper compensation. And to be fair, the negatice side of how dna can and is used. There is no federal regulation on how your dna can be used. Period. That said, there is also no federal regulation on how knowing your own genetic information can be used against you. For example, if you get a full genetic screening and you become aware of your potential medical ailments, vulnerabilities to certain diseases, genetic aptitude for certain conditions, there is no federal law preventing insurance companies from using that information to raise your premium. And if you lie about your knowledge of that info, it can be considered insurance fraud. 2 years ago I did a dna test for my birthday. I got the FamilyTreeDNA one. Turns out I’m 93%british/Irish
2% broadly south Eastern European
Then your mom's great grandma is a typical family fairytale. I'm guessing you are located somewhere from the south or middle America.
This is a common myth spread amongst white Americans that they have so elusive native American grandparent. Which 9 times out 10 turns out to be nothing more than a false family myth.
I have similar results. My German part of my family left germany around 1700 aswell. we may be related in 6-10 generations!
Instructions also say to shake sample container for 5 seconds after funnel is removed AND new smaller cap securely screwed on.
I used AncestryDNA because it integrates with their family tree service.
Jeff Liggett AncestryDNA team! What were your results?
What does that service provide ?
@@shaskins15 If you take the Ancestry DNA test you get an ethnicity estimate, which includes Australian and North American settler communities, You can match with Relatives, and helps with your family tree
@Jeff Liggett does it show haplogroups ?
@@DarioFKV No, it doesn't. Only 23andme (as far as I know) does that.
too confusing.
not enough charts.
What I am aware of, to my knowledge I'm:
25% British
25% German
18.75% Italian
18.75% African
12.5% Irish.
D. Williams What were you AncestryDNA results?
@@britopia1341 as well as expected. I wanted to get more info on my health dna traits
Can you gives and update if you don’t mind. I want to do a health report but not sure if it’s worth the money since I already did Ancestry dna .
Aaa yes the good old I came from a money report useful for finding your family tree relatives, thx for uploading I've been curious about 23 and me for awhile
....When you Register the Kit, what Kinds of Questions do they ask...?????.....!!!!
My mom and I did Ancestry with our DNA and our search, and before we even got the DNA Results we had what I like to call the "Leafagdon" for a few months. Now whenever there is a leaf there is a DNA link. And I can now pin point the more iconic ancestors and be like " Oh hey there Fam."
It's an interesting experience.
Great info. I'll be curious to see what my Ancestry results say.
Good to know. Thanks.
Didn't notice till after I read this now I can't unsee it.
Don't forget to shake the sealed tube to mix.
My Haplogroup is E1B1B1a1 My brother tested so i know. That common ancestor was probably a hunter Gatherer not a king LOL
I am:
Italian: 47%
German & Swiss: 26.4%
British & Irish: 21.3%
Broadly Anything: 3.8%
Greek & Balkan: 1.3%
Korean: 0.1%
Is their a blood one that might be more potent. If not cool I just want the best results possible!
Thank you so much for this video!
I need to do this. Is there any other suggestions for DNA tests that might be more potent? If not cool.
Blood is no better than saliva for DNA testing. I don't know of any company that uses blood.

Interesting wouldn't have guessed that. Is 23&Me the most accurate or is their others. Cuz I'm tryna get everything
EX:
If it says
Your 42% Iberian
ME: HOLD MY BEER,
- how much Spanish
- how much Portuguese if any
Is there:
Arabic
Berber
Syrian
Jewish
Latin
Greek
Phoenician
Iberian Celtic
Visigoth
Suebi
Spanish Basque?
Thanks! Canʻt wait for my results,
Big thanks for the tutorial!👍
Does your British-Irish DNA break down to areas of those places? like the French-German did for yours around Zurich.
What part of Ireland does your family come from? Irish records are very sparse and hard to research beyond the 1800s. Even then, the 1800s are tough.
Yes, it does. Seems my ancestors came from Donegal.
Hey man, a few things about the percentages:
we all get 50% of our genes from each of our parents. however, our sperms or eggs contain a random combination of the genes of those parents. they are not split 50:50 necessarily. so in most cases, you do not give the same amount of your fathers as of your mothers genes to your kids. one of them will usually be more than 50% of your "contribution" (so more than 25% of your childs DNA) while the other one will be a bit less.
this means your 32% irish heritage might actually be just your grandma.
it is a very common misconception that we all get equal shares from each of our ancestors. that is simply not correct.
it is theoretically possible that someone has no genes in common with one of their grandparents (that can theoretically be the case if all of the genes in your sperm happen to be either from your fathers or mothers side).
as for the scandinavian part: well, a lot of british and irish people have a certain amount of scandinavian blood because of historic reasons.
amazing results!!! have you done any comparison between companies? I did with 24genetics and I'm very happy, do you recommend me to do it with 23andme?
So far I've only done 23andme but I I'm planning to do Ancestry and FamilyTreeDNA soon.
Some sites allow you to upload your raw data that you got from another company. Saves you taking the test again.
The cursor-DNA didn't show in your results?
I did mine on my heritage. It's all very interesting, but I'd hoped for some variety in my DNA. I got 96.4% my nationality and 2.6% Inuit/Eskimo. I'm quite curious about where that bit came from, as it is such a small percentage I'll likely never know.
What nationality are you
Ruonakoski is a Khazarian jew family name, the north of Russia, there your eskimo relatives!
believe it his surname is Finnish
Many white Americans have African ancestry, so it’s important to view All categories, and vise versa
My recent ancestors were Slavs from Dalmatia but I have ancestors from families Korlat, Mamut... I don't know if they have Slavic origin.
Thank you.
Aloha!...gratitude for the tutorial. Aloha from MauiWaui!
O Baden Württemberg. Nice. I live in Stuttgart. Greetings from old Homeland 👍👍👍
Only thing holding me back from doing this is what they do with my data.
they store it together with other people's data.
For sale....to the highest bidder (Insurance companies, Government agencies....)😖
Guergui Stoyanov it is unfortunate that they do that
They store it and do not share it unless you click the box that gives permission to share the info for research purposes. But even if they took your info and gave it away to anyone, there is very little anyone could actually do with your info, outside of scientific advancement. No one can use that info to steal your identity, no one can use it to frame you for a crime, it’s useless info for the majority of the world.
Ryan Harmon really there is no good evidence that they sell your data but there really is not any good evidence that they don’t.
I love your work!
Thank you for your video. I'd now like to purchase a couple of kits for my parents

Hey Matt,
You promised use a video about haplogroup but I'm sad to discover that we don't have one...
But yep still great video ;)
I love your intro music!
Very helpful walktrough.
This is excellent, thank you
Do you also teach a course on Udemy for Linux?
You mention that the test gets more accurate the more people take the test. I do not fully understand this, because it does not solve the problem that people migrate. If people didn't migrate, then a larger sample leads to more precise results concerning location, but since people migrate, and migration metadata is not covered, a larger sample would not improve the precision, would it?
Have your results changed since making this video due to updating?
Can I import or upload my DNA test from ancestry and upload it to "23 & ME" or would I have to buy a whole new kit for
23 & ME? If I make sense?

I feel more confident with 23 and me haplogroup designations... they stay back and generalize it. ft dna flipped me right out of my own family, as if I could be a 100% new mutation that takes 1000+ years to get. Very scary if it deletes your immediate relatives... I had zero matches, dating back 1400 years minimum.(it proves I had an error- and they do NOT back down when they make mistakes). Thanks for video. I am at 5 sites.. and it helped me find the serious mistakes (just haplogroups - which should have been the easiest part of it)
Very helpful. Thank you!
A distant (I think French) relative sailed to the us around 1750!
One question, can you do a video reviewing the world history chart? You have only done u.s, canadian, and European history.
I'm planning a major update of that chart later this year so am waiting to do it then.
I enjoy your videos. You have a nice voice and a handsome face
So Matt Is my account for life or is there a fee I must pay?
Thanks me and my wife just got our kit today-Anniversary Gift to each other thanks again
can you do an updated 2021 review of your results assuming many more people have taken the test since then? May be more accurate now but I am curious as to any changes?
The problem with DNA tests is not all of your ancestors' DNA survives to the present. You only get 50% from each parent; the other 50%, which is lost, may contain unique information of a distant relative from an unknown region. However, your brother or sister may still have that information.
I have been heavily involved in genealogy since 1994 and have over 25K people in my file. It has been a fascinating journey with many discoveries of historical personages. We are all cousins. I'm glad I discovered your channel, albeit a bit late. Subbed.
Have you perused the updated results? Would love to see if anything changed or became more elucidated for you.

DId you also know that 23and Me along with family Tree DNA have already sold genetic profile information to both the FBI and Merk and Co.? Did you read the fine print on the DNA test kit?
Does ancestry also show neanderthal? I just got my results back, but not sure if I missed a spot with it. :(
