I really like the way you end your videos. You're not begging for subscribers. So when I did subscribe I did it solely based on the content, the way it's meant to be :)
I was a proud SEGA CD owner. I got it my 8th grade year. In a time when platformers were king, it was a relief. I had so much fun playing Double Switch. DP did some cool stuff, Ground Zero, Night Trap, and Prize Fighter was a lot of fun for a 13-14 year old. By far tho, my favorite was Dracula Unleashed. I still play it to this day, and to this day I've yet to beat it.
Never really got into these Sega CD FMV games. There were so many great sprite based games, but the only games people were interested in at the time were these terrible ones.
I loved this game growing up. I bought it on Saturn, years later, because the video quality was so much better. More to your point on traps though, they did that intentionally, to make the game difficult.
Another positive is that the gameplay is such that encourages multiple playthroughs, which increases the game's longevity. Also, this game is basically Night Trap except that it didn't upset politicians.
6 years late on this series but now I have a whole new thing to binge. Love these videos so damn much! Sucks I'm just finding these now...2020 has been a strange series of youtube rabbitholes for me...
For some reason after playing this game for the first time i wanted to move into that building, i loved every aspect of it . Of course i realized it didn't exist for real but i was enchanted by the layout and i imagined if it was real what it would be like to live there . Somehow Night Trap did the same thing , it created a fictional environment you wouldn't mind living in but DS took it a step further with an entire building to use as your playground . Freak it, the main residence should be the Double Switch building and the Martin house from Night Trap is the weekend getaway
I had a lot of fun playing this game last night. The arming the traps is stated in the manual that their's a power meter you can only arm so many traps. And you also need to anticipate using a trap so slightly arm a trap in one room while setting a trap in another. The directions in the manual were really helpful with these tips. Still i suck right now at it.
The concept behind loading the traps is so you can only preload traps so much before they overload the power. It's totally a valid mechanic. I love these crappy FMV SCD games. Playing this and Dracula Unleashed right now. Dracula has a really good story and decent acting. This is what we had in the early 90s, and we loved it.
Double Switch. A hidden source of inspiration for FNAF, maybe? Almost certainly not, but it's pretty interesting that this camera mechanic has been done before.
Five Nights At Freddy's is a horror (read: jumpscare) game that has the same sort of camera mechanics as Double Switch. Markiplier did a let's play of it a while ago and it became that game that everyone talks about for five weeks before forgetting about it.
FMV games are such an oddity. On one hand I don't really want to play them but on the other hand, I feel like the stories and acting would make for a great thing to watch with friends. Cool look at this game!
That would certainly be interesting! Though, seeing as though it nearly broke Caddy, I don't hold much hope that there truly are any positives to be found.
Well, that's your entire backlog watched. Now I have to wait for new videos as you make them... I have never played an FMV game in my life...and I feel that's to my benefit. It's not even that I'm too young...I'm 25, so I COULD have fiddled with this crap in my very early years, but my dad knew better than to buy it. I spent my time on classic NES and SNES games, mostly. But I do find video game history fascinating all the same, so looks at this genre intrigue me...especially in a format that doesn't require me playing them.
Deborah Harry is in one of the greatest films of all time, the David Cronenberg classic, Videodrome. Even got a beautiful release by The Criterion Collection. She' gave a solid performance.
At the 5:36 mark there’s also “that guy” in the cast that plays “that guy” in a lot of stuff 😂 Taylor Negron ex. Angels in the Outfield, The Last Boy Scout
I remember you talking about this on the podcast. It sounded so bizarre from a design stand point. Now that you've talked about it more... It still sounds fucking bizarre.
I just noticed that this video is running in 60 fps. But this video came out before TH-cam made it playable. Did you know they would do that beforehand?
OK, so please don't get mad at me when I say this, k? I think this game looks a lot like... you guessed it... FNAF. I mean, there are a lot of similarities. You don't have much control over what the characters are doing. You have to keep flipping through the cameras to see what's going on. The traps work sort of like the lights and doors in the FNAF games... there are probably other things too but I've never played this game myself, I can only go off what I've seen in this video.
+Rerez Will you talk about the negatives to Night Trap? 1. It doesn't have a character detection on the room selection (like Double Switch). But even then, you can't help but choose what poison to take, killing augers or watching a bland sitcom. James Riley who wrote *both* those games really improved himself on the latter (the latter being Double Switch), because we, the player, wanted to take a tour on the environment rather than 2. It relies too hard on making the player get a perfect game! Double Switch doesn't do that, because no matter how many captures you have, you still get the same ending. Night Trap wants you to get all the Vampires to require the perfect ending. 3. Speaking of the ending... it's unsatisfying. Where as Double Switch gives us the treasure as a grand prize, with Eddie being punished for being an ass, Kelly just walks away like nothing happened... unless you killed her off which makes it worse. 4. Night Trap is too harsh in their game overs. It's like, if you failed in protecting someone, the SCAT Team tells you to Fuck off, in a way that AVGN would say about what the proposed Game Over Screen would be in his "Friday the 13th" review! While Night Trap does a similar thing, it was short, sweet, and to the point. I even liked the one Game Over, where it's like Eddie: I win! I win! And you lose. Lyle: He's right about one thing... *YOU LOSE.*
Rerez, as non-praisers of the FNAF franchise (one of the reasons why is because of overpraised, incredibly salty fans, who are much closer to haters in general, like SuperMinecraftKid), we could request you to please do a Positives episode on the Five Nights at Freddy’s series!
I rather enjoyed this game for what it was back in the day. As for the story, I think you misread how it works. It's not that it's multiple channels with different programs. It's more like one single massive story that takes place simultaneously across different spaces, and that you can't experience entirely in a single sitting. It basically adds replay value. As for the genre today, wouldn't Heavy Rain be it?
"It's like switching between channels on TV, and when you switch back to a previous channel the story moved on without you". The most awkward description of broadcast TV is ever heard.
Great upload man any chance you could do a negatives or positives on minecraft thanks Because I would like to here your oppinion about a wordly popular game thanks again man and great video !
The Sega CD was an interesting beast. Very ambitious, but unfortunately, poor execution killed off a lot of interest for the system. Love the series, Shane. Nice video!
Try finding some positives in Busby 3D. I got it for Christmas when it came out and tried to convince myself it was good, despite it making me feel sick, to no avail. It was the first terrible game I owned and one of my first experiences of motion sickness due to in game cameras.
When I hear ya say that you'd love to see this sort of game resirected, I thought you'd bring up that this sort of game has come back... just the half you'd think was this game's weakness. All the camra swapping gets turned pants wetting to many when you put it in Chucky Cheese and call it Five Nights at Freddy's.
i'm shocked you didn't crack another sega cd case. did sega cd have any good games? Cher would have been way better. she can really act and she could have were the outfit from the if i could turn back time music video. That would have made this game even better.
I actually like this game it's not that bad more like average, it's got major flaws indeed not being able to really see the full story and characters development because your busy trapping people. I think if someone were to tweak it a bit it might be alot better and more fun smh
I don't like when you look at FMV games, because it just looks like you are watching a tv show from the 90's...there's very little "gameplay" going on. You are basically reviewing an old tv show. + not many people under age 25 have ever played a FMV game so this whole video seems kind of pointless.
The genre technically has been resurrected. Look at games like Heavy Rain and Beyond. This games are very similar to previous FMV games.
Yeah, I was thinking of Heavy Rain as a spiritual successor to FMV games.
I really like the way you end your videos. You're not begging for subscribers. So when I did subscribe I did it solely based on the content, the way it's meant to be :)
I like doing it that way now. Makes me feel better about the content! :)

More to your point on traps though, they did that intentionally, to make the game difficult.
So its Night Trap 2, basically.
Another positive is that the gameplay is such that encourages multiple playthroughs, which increases the game's longevity. Also, this game is basically Night Trap except that it didn't upset politicians.
+Otaking Mikohani Precisely, a Pre-Teen Version of Night Trap without having to upset any parents.
6 years late on this series but now I have a whole new thing to binge. Love these videos so damn much! Sucks I'm just finding these now...2020 has been a strange series of youtube rabbitholes for me...

This channel is quickly becoming one of my favourites!
Awesome channel bro - your a natural.
HOLD THAT THOUGHT! Just watched the end where you mentioned Cher - UNSUBBED!
Bimmy Lee Õ_o
Bimmy Lee I guess you can't handle personal tastes - He's better off people like you
83gatonegro
It was a joke buddy.
Using Blondie?! I guess when she commanded "Call Me" they couldn't disobey! :P

Almost certainly not, but it's pretty interesting that this camera mechanic has been done before.
That's pretty interesting now that you mention it. I wonder if FNAF's creator ever played this game?
I have never heard of FNAF, enlighten me as to what it is please...
Five Nights At Freddy's is a horror (read: jumpscare) game that has the same sort of camera mechanics as Double Switch. Markiplier did a let's play of it a while ago and it became that game that everyone talks about for five weeks before forgetting about it.
DragonTamer795
I know what Five Nights at Freddy's is, I just did not know that they made an acronym...
Yeah, it's essentially a cleaner version of Night Trap. Same production company on Double Switch.
FMV games are such an oddity. On one hand I don't really want to play them but on the other hand, I feel like the stories and acting would make for a great thing to watch with friends. Cool look at this game!
Might be impossible, but try to find the positives of dalmatians 3 for the PS2
That would certainly be interesting! Though, seeing as though it nearly broke Caddy, I don't hold much hope that there truly are any positives to be found.
MikamiFan92 true, but it would still be worth a try
Kalilu Jawara Indeed, it would be the ultimate test.
Awesome! Game has Taylor Negron who is a great character actor and Brooke McCarter who along with Corey Haim was in The Lost Boys.
Great upload, Shane. Really want to know: what's your favorite FMV title?
Honestly, it might be this one. I played it more than any other FMV game. I am going to have to take a look at my old FMV game collection again!
I have it but I have not played that much of it! :D
Rerez did you know Double Switch was similar to Night Trap?
RIP 🪦 Corey Haim … glad this reminded me of his epic hit License 🪪 To Drive along side Corey Feldman and Heather “Rollergirl” Graham!!!
Reminds me of Night Trap!
Same people that made it
Your work is getting better and better. Keep it up! And thanks.
Well, that's your entire backlog watched. Now I have to wait for new videos as you make them...
I have never played an FMV game in my life...and I feel that's to my benefit. They did try a new FMV game with Tesla Effect, a Tex Murphy adventure. It has varying degrees of success...

I enjoyed watching Deborah Harry act like an air head in this along side some amazing actors like R. Lee, it was funny.
Watch/Play Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, a bit more of a "choose your own adventure" but still well done.
I just noticed that this video is running in 60 fps. But this video came out before TH-cam made it playable. Did you know they would do that beforehand?
I knew they were going to go to 60fps for a while now, however this video isn't in 60fps. :P
You have to admit, you will find a lot of......... unique experiences in the infancy period of CD technology.
Double Switch is a great game! It is a real development of the system introduced in Night Trap with a better back story and interactivty.
OK, so please don't get mad at me when I say this, k? I think this game looks a lot like... you guessed it... FNAF. I mean, there are a lot of similarities. There are a few security camera games that came out around this time. I'm pretty sure they are what inspired FNAF. :)

James Lewis Yeah, fnaf is basically a modified night trap, focusing on the gameplay instead of story

If you're taking recommendations, I really need a Negatives video for Shining Force (Genesis) or the Lunar series (Sega CD). I'm biased towards them.
I rather enjoyed this game for what it was back in the day.

The Sega CD was an interesting beast. Very ambitious, but unfortunately, poor execution killed off a lot of interest for the system. Love the series, Shane. Nice video!
It’s a good thing the game got revived for modern audiences.
Why don't you have more subscribers or more attention? Your channel is awesome!
More people keep watching every day! :)
@@rerez It’s pretty cool that Double Switch got a second life for modern consoles like the Nintendo Switch.
it's hilarious that almost every positive is more about the video than the game.
One of my favorite games, I love the FMV format, so weird and interesting. =)
I really friggen love this series.
Setting up traps hmm? Reminds me of the Deception series for the Playstation. Too bad I never played Trapt on the PS2 :/
in my country there`s a board game by milton-bradley called "La herencia de la tia agata".it`s equal

Did you notice the uncredited appearance of David Carradine @ 1:44?
Debra harry was good in some films videodrome, tales from the dark side the film she's done more
So.........Night Trap?
Man, all of the Digital Pictures story games were bad, but when they tried to make a Basketball game with FMV... Oof.
Nice video once again.
Great video Breh,
i never see someone like Debra Harry like actor, its first time
Never ever say a bad word about Blondie or Debbie again
Don't be dissin on Blondie, bra!. She's been in lots of films. Videodrome, anyone?
I totally forgot she was in that. I revoke all comments made!
FMV was cool.
It looks like a good game to watch someone else's 100% playthrough on TH-cam.
Nice
Isn't this just Night Trap basically?
Awesome!
i'm shocked you didn't crack another sega cd case. did sega cd have any good games? Cher would have been way better. she can really act and she could have were the outfit from the if i could turn back time music video. That would have made this game even better.
I actually completed this one.
I actually like this game it's not that bad more like average, it's got major flaws indeed not being able to really see the full story and characters development because your busy trapping people. I think if someone were to tweak it a bit it might be alot better and more fun smh
whats going on with that box art...
The box art is referencing this Egyptian statue that people are looking for in the game. It's actually related to the story believe it or not! :P
***** oh,thanks!
You forgot Taylor Negron
I liked this game but never got far
hey rerez, you should check out this game called "rez"
it has a very... interesting accessory
It's the 5 Nights at Freddy's wannabe
Quanticdream just saying.
There lots of good FMV games on youtube
they have run with the game gerna, hevy rain, beyond, walking dead, it just dosnet have fmv
Sorta like five nights at Freddy camera.
2019 anyone?
OhGelato ur so funny
Super man 64
Oh wait, Telltale exists. (And this is the part where I tell you that I'm not a big fan of them.)
Sorry...
This game would be a lot better if it were remade today, using real-time rendering.
This game is ok not the best but ok
I don't like when you look at FMV games, because it just looks like you are watching a tv show from the 90's...there's very little "gameplay" going on. You are basically reviewing an old tv show. + not many people under age 25 have ever played a FMV game so this whole video seems kind of pointless.
Thumbs down on this video just for recommending Cher.
