@@nathanscarlett4772 i dont really play much but why does this also apply to cleric - i thought they didnt have meditate - or you mean using campfires?
@SMega you can use campfires, but again, it's still waiting and sitting on the ground to replenish your spells. Anyone can come up to you and bonk you on the head, lol
or...they could have spells only recharge from campfires like the past, but still keep them powerful like before and stop arcade-ing the game with classes like the warlock
@@cesars7281 A lot of shit fundamentally needs to change from the ground up. Invis mechanics, spell casters in general, barbarian-ranger multiclass with throwing axes, fighter ranger multiclass with crossbow and throwing axes, the list goes on and on.
It had to be said, if the strongest, tankiest classes in your game are ALSO the fastest, your game sucks, and it's not up for debate. The jury is not out on this. Remember when we took invis and haste away because of what barb could do with them? I'm starting to think wiz wasn't the problem, lol. The class balance issue is deeply embedded in the games identity at this point, Fighter was 50%+ of the playerbase and wiz was under 5% and we let cries about how wizard was op dominate the discussion. Just because he was actually killing plate fighters as quickly as plate fighters kill everyone else.. when he's supposed to be a *gLaSs CaNnOn* to begin with, its just sad.
Then again, what can you expect when people like this are platformed leaders in the community, and allowed to run private trading servers while simultaneously being a Senior Warden in the official Ironmace Discord: www.twitch.tv/martydad/clip/ApatheticArbitraryRutabagaDuDudu-Sm1K3yeZtM9dqbmz This cancer runs deep, and its just gonna keep getting worse if we refuse to excise it. I remember when hotfix #15 got reverted in under 12hrs because these people passed around a petition to literally quit the game because they called it boring.. I still don't see spuddy doing that, for all the shit he gets about his opinions.
Teaming in solos has been an issue for a while, but lately it's been a nightmare. EVERY solo lobby it's 8 timmies all trying to get "Highly ranked" by playing trinket simulator and portal opener. Bridge on ruins is now a chat room.
@@user-iv5yk4nr4qall teaming should be bannable. At most it should be allowed to have a pact not to kill eachother, but not help eachother either. 4v2s are lame. 5v1 is lame. That shit all sucks.
Ugh yeah the VoIP initiated 4v2's are cringe. "Hey there's this other squad over there, want to come kill them with us and split loot". Yeah the VoIP didn't happen in the pregame lobby, but how is that any better
preach spud. the sad truth is most players in COMPETITIVE PVP games will take the path of least resisitance for most reward. in overwatch recently there was a tank (same thing as bard) with the best healing, dmg, and tanking presence, and instead of self moderating people just abused it since the devs took forever, month and a half, to fix. most barbs just want to win and will bandwagon to the next META
The issue is the meta is too suffocating for the relativeness of the other classes. All of it stems from poor design/tuning. Then because of this issue, the devs have to split their focus between balance and content in order to keep their playerbase from crumbling. It's almost like these tuning patches are doing more harm than good by frustrating the player base with constantly upgrading/downgrading viability of classes within systems that hard lock questing/stash space/economy progress to each individual class and not the account. I don't want to hear, "it's beta" anymore because I didn't pay to perma test the game for all eternity. This product is substantially different than what we had in the play tests, so this is upsetting to have such drastic directional changes after having paid for the product. Anyone who doesn't think Dark and Darker is self sabotaging it's own success, albeit they put in a lot of effort, it's not working and the growth/popularity/hype have all halted to a crawl.
Started the wipe on Wiz and mained it. Did the quests and got the character stacked. Once they nerfed it and I played it for a couple days after I quit. Havent touched the game since.
same thing happens to the players of all the other classes that go through these cycles. They main 1 class, it becomes unviable, then they don't come back. The only people left playing are the fotm rerollers who will meta pile till every lobby is 100% one singular class.
Dark and Darker has the same issues a lot of "indie game with pvp" titles have where they are seemingly balanced in a non-competitive way but eventually the game dies because people optimise the fun out of the game. This has happened to SO MANY of these types of games it's insane. Deceive Inc. was one of the most recent ones in memory for me where at first the game is really fun but then there were like two agents that started dominating because they had abilities that were so valuable on top of people teaming. If your game is going to have PvP elements you CANNOT expect people to simply "have fun" with it. You need to imagine the worst possible way someone will use and abuse your systems when you make them and create measures against that.
This game is literally a hardcore extraction game. It's like Tarkov. It isn't "non-competitive." It is meant to be hardcore and sweaty. Thats the fuckin point
@@joshuawadsworth6417 what exactly is your point? The game is fun because it is a hardcore extraction game. Point blank period. Tarkov has a cult following for the same exact reason.
Imo Dark and Darker is unbalanceable. Every class is too different. It's more fun this way, but if every class was melee, just like how every class is ranged in Tarkov, maybe then you could balance it.
As a wizard main i've said soooo many times to my friends the same thing. They should just delete the class bc how weak it feels. It felt pretty good seeing you feel the same way and said the same thing. Kindred spirt
It’s just badly balanced, top tier wiz is a death machine while no gear wiz feels like a water gun. They need to drop off gear hard and buff the class overall
Rework meditate to be a skill that gives you spells as you move. Then rework resting for spells by making the spell in hand while resting have 3x the normal rate recovery rate.
they already did that, sitting gives like 2x the regen it used to. the way spells are balanced is you need a campfire to regen them if they're above T1-T2 spells. high tier spells take FOREVER to regenerate, when i play wizard i just play for fun and do fire dagger with shield skill. the issue is that high tier spells take TOO LONG to recover, not that the regen is too slow t1 and t2 spells are basically instant recovery, its like 3-4 seconds of sitting. for a zap. im pretty sure ur abvel to recover all 5 zap before getting ur second fireball back. it makes no sense, its ridiculous, the high tier spells need to recover faster. thats all there's no point trying to spend 10k gold on a kit only to be 2shot by a ranger. or ran at and 2-3 shot by a barbarian who never even attempted to melee me and just threw 8 axes at my spine or have to wait 3 minutes placing a campfire and sitting before i can play the game again. i just run fire daggers with ball and use zap/icebolt as my only other damage spells + the shield skill, no meditate. i live or die by the blade.
@@TheShizzlemop I was saying that with the rest spell recovery buff hotfix in mind. Which if it was doubled after the hotfix then what I said would make the recovery 6 times greater than before the spell recovery update. My idea was that if you have a spell, like fireball or lightning strike, equipped in your hand while resting that spell would be focused by 3 times the current recovery rate. Therefore, you can focus the higher tier spells that take longer to recover and reduce downtime.
Give barb a stamina bar that drains with each swing or thrown weapon and when it runs out you have to sit down for 10mins before you can attack again haha
I. FEEL. SEEN. Thank you for the validation in the pain 😂 This was the perfect laugh to end a long week! One of the fixes i think they need to address is the fact that Barbarian doesnt lose anything for raging down a magic class. He loses PDR to make up for the speed and damage... but against cleric, warlock, rogue, and wizard, woth soon druid... he loses nothing. No punishment. If they added a -20% mr on shout like pdr it could make it an approachable start to a healthy balance! What do ya think? Always value your opinion :)
Love your stuff dude, honestly, anything will help at this point. The biggest issue is you get run down like a dog as wizard. Maybe up the speed of him. All the tanks have speed burst. Haste cast isn't the same in reality.
Totally feel you on this. I quit playing the game because they don't know how to balance anything and it's almost entirely based on your gear or class, not on skill. Which just isn't fun to me. When I was playing, every time they would come out with a good update or nerf certain stats in gear, certain streamers or people that are already rich in game would cry and they would revert the changes. The second time I saw that happen I was done with the game.
Trying to get through exemplar to demigod has been the video game equivalent of stapeling my ballsack to my thigh and trying to hop around while being chased around by big hairy men yelling at you
Watching the lag portion never fails to give me the most rage filled anxiety... But I totally feel you Spuddy, I haven't really touched the game in 2-3 weeks. It feels really awkward I think is the word i'd describe it as? I keep trying to do my best to copium my way out of it but man. Theres something really off and the community isn't helping in the slightest bit. Somehow they enjoy this weird cuisine we're being offered and I just don't get it... Just the other day I tried to have discussions w/ people around the community about them adding slightly more complexity to the melee fighting to start. You know, make shield bash viable... make tumble worth a damn, maybe add kicking/shoving, more parry options than just one damn weapon that is mid to B tier as far as i'm concerned.. But no one wants that because it would be too similar to other medieval fighting games? I dont get it man, the devs really need to cook and not listen to the masses because what the masses want is spaghetti and hotdogs instead of evolving to spaghetti and meatballs. Fuck, I think my line broke. =(
You know I really wish this game had 2 separate modes, a PVE mode and a PvPvE or PvP mode. It seems like both sides of the player base are pretty frustrated or bored with the game. PvE feels stale and repetitive and PvP is never ever balanced. I would fucking kill for a PvE coop adventure mode version of this game but I know PvP would never be able to be balanced with mechanics like that in the game and I still want to PvP from time to time. This game is trying to accomplish too much all in the same mode/game. PvP killing off the PvE player base and PvE annoying and frustrating the PvP playerbase with "teaming" and non lethal lobbies. Ironmace needs to figure something out and I honest to god hope it isnt turning this game into a PvP battle royal because im tired of the battle royal genre.
Honestly making an SPdarkov style mode for PvE only would solve it for me. they don't have to change a thing, I'd just like a segregated mode to play by myself or with friends. would it be jank and feel a bit shallow? absolutely. but it would be a nice pallet cleanser and a way to explore more of the game like class and skill combos no one would ever use otherwise. development wise it might provide some interesting data. It's a stretch but I hope something like this is on the table at some point, because the worse the PvP balance gets the more people seem to want a mode like this.
This is the first video I ever see from your channel it got randomly recommended and I was surprised to see such well editing done by a relatively low subscriber count channel, but I kinda expected to see a video explaining why the game sucks and not just a massive rant about wizards. When it comes to videos like these I usually even check ahead for the timestamps to see what will be covered and I thought hmm yeah a bunch of stuff will be covered but the majority of the time stamps are also just invalid because they are stamped as "Class balance" or "Rangers" when they are just wizard rants as well. Valid points were also sprinkled in between the massive wizard rants but why not just title it why wizard sucks or something? Just my opinion as somebody who has seen your videos for the first time ever
@@IndicatedGoodLife it would be better than sitting down every 3 magic missiles 😅 even if they each had stacks/cool downs, like you can hold 3, but you Regen 1 every x seconds. It just sucks that MM was nerfed to the point where if you aren't kitted you can't kill at most 2 of the weaker mobs before needing to sit down. I'd much rather be able to walk around and at least smack pots/boxes 😂
I want damage numbers too but my biggest reason is I want to know when my hits don't register, like when ur in the lobby and u swing at the dummy and sometimes the hits on the dummy don't register and u don't get numbers, who knows how often that happens mid fight And information is always good, more information leads to more skill expression, I also want sound queues for when u hit head vs body vs limbs The headshot sound could be really satisfying, and getting a bunch of limb sounds tells the player they need to aim better and could help players immediately understand why they lost and how to improve "man I hit arm 4 times and he hit head twice and body once, I gotta stop panicking and aim better" more info more skill expression
One of the complaints I heard that was anti dmg number was that ranged dmg will just scan rooms to proc hit numbers and that not having them leads to less information that players can capitalize on. So if your sitting in the dark and a ranger is just spamming arrows into it, he'd never know if you were there or if he was hitting you, but if he had numbers to work off of, it certainly would change the dynamics of how people play.
@@Rizzerio1 I think that's an incredibly dumb argument, the fact that someone actually thinks that's going to be a viable strat depresses me, someone's really going to shoot dozens of arrows slightly moving each arrow to fully scan every dark corner in every single room instead of, idk, throw one torch
@RuckFussia long range the audio queue doesnt exist it physically cant reach your character youre not wrong but long range i can see why numbers would be an issue also goes for wiz and warlocks just spam spells hoping to see a number pop
Preach brother. You speak for us all. Something you said a while back really resonated with me. It's that wizard is the most rewarding to play because of the way you can interact with your environment. I used to be exclusively ranger, but just got flat out bored of it. So, I picked up wizard. Right around the time MM was nerfed into the ground. Even through these hard times, with solo wiz being a meme and the barb issue, I'm still having more fun. The day will come when solo wiz will be on equal footing with these other classes, and by grinding through these tough times, while wiz is down bad, we will be made better players for it. Much love, keep up the awesome content!
Well actually spuddy what you need to do is log off the game, apply to work at Ironmace, get hired, fix all of Dark and Darker’s problems, be hailed as the games savior, rise through the ranks and become future CEO, make connections with other development studios to promote the game and make millions in revenue, find a lovely lass to make your wife, start a family, invest in real estate, grow old, and pass away peacefully surrounded by your loved ones. Only THEN will wizard class receive passive spell regen or a mana based system.
Honestly I wish they just used a mana and cooldown system like EVERY OTHER GAME WITH MAGIC/WIZARDS. Its already a tried and true system and tweaking mana regen, mana capacity, spell mana cost, spell cooldown and the actual spells themselves is a lot easier than the way they're currently doing it.
I like the resting mechanic more unique and time restricted. I wish they just made arrows and stamina instead for range and melee classes. Wizards spells are so strong though. Up resourcefulness for wizards so they can campfire more quickly and not always resort to fireballing doors everytime
The only thing that will balance wizard or the game in general is limiting the number of times you can deal ranged damage as any class. Ranged has to be deadly enough that you don't just get w keyed, but it can't be so oppressive and accessible that its the only viable option. Its not that hard, give ranged weapons limited ammo that recharges over time (3 axe charges that recharge one every 10 seconds). Give wizards strong spells with cooldowns instead of charges and change perks to specialize into certain spells. This allows them to be effective in PvE and PvP while still allowing counterplay. That would probably make cheesing PvE too easy but the cheesability of PvE is a whole different topic.
@@thejutopian6347that’s crazy bc I’m exemplar see legit no barbarian players in trios bc Fighter is just better in every regard as a tank and melee DPS, plus better ranged options and instant 40% HP.
Some simple solutions: Add a magic recovery stat that gives you a very slow means of recovering spell slots as you move, and speeds up recovery during resting. Give the wizard two spells: Mage armor and Burning hands. Some THP at the cost of replacing one of your spells, and a shorter range but wider concentration spell to give MM some competition. Then you have burning hands be the higher damage of the two but shorter range while MM is slightly lower damage, perhaps just keep it at what it's at now, but increase the tracking on the missiles so it's more about accuracy and range. Alternatively, you can give burning hands a "shove" so the wizard has *literally anything* they can do against barbs.
WHAT ELSE IS A BARB SUPPOSED TO DO?? EVERY CLASS HAS RANGED BUT BARB THEY NEED TO BE ABLE TO BRING IN 10 STACKS OF AXES TO EVEN HAVE A CHANCE OF KILLING RANGER, ROUGE AND WIZARD
@RuckFussia ok so what is the option for fighters and barbs to deal with rangers and warlocks if not throwing axes? If you can't approach and they do more damage then a cleric can heal
I feel like wizard is to reliant on mid range forcing you into fights that you dont wanna be in. If there where more long range options franny barbs wouldnt be that much of a problem. In genreal wizard has to fight within range where he isnt safe and ever since the invis and haste nerfs that just isnt viable.
It’s a mid to long range utility character based on playing in a team. If you keep asking them to “fix” it it’s gonna fuck the balance of the rest of the game and actually ruin it.
Hilarious man and spot on. Also as a NA West player can confirm we get the lag spikes like that as well, and I have also lost kits the same way. Good points overall though and I agree with them. Hope to see IM fix these issues at some point moving forward.
As much as I love barbarian. It really is the most annoying class. Second only to ranger. Every time I want to try something and have fun. A barbarian just ruins it(or a ranger). The only real counter to a barb is another barb or a reaaally lucky PDR fighter. Next problem is in high roller barb isn't really a problem cause high roller is EXTREMELY bloated with stats so it doesn't matter. The only solution to teaming is to add something that only 1 team can leave with and/or reduce the loss of dying. Less loss = more fighting. For example to the something only 1 team can take. Make bosses like troll and cyclops accessible to everyone(makes it a high point of contention rather than ignored by the vast majority of people) and make them ACTUALLY worth killing. This creates a point of contention that people would fight over the loot. Just loot at the extraction game Hunt Showdown. Teaming basically doesn't exist in that game.(you can buy back your entire kit immediately if you die if you have the money, and have bosses with the "big loot" to create points of contention and fighting. Dark and darker desperately needs one of these if not both)
the damage numbers idea goes insanely hard and i cant believe i havent thought of that yet, also spent a considerable amount of time getting flamed on the discord today for the “sitting is bad” take but it genuinely does need to change
My biggest gripe with the game is why the faq can fighter and barb have ranged? You've got a melee wrecking ball and a melee tank, both of which should be completely countered by range themselves. Yet someone thought it was a smart idea to give fighter bows and crossbows and let both classes stack more throwables than most classes have spells.
There was a game I played where they had different pain grunts depending on how much health they had left, in increments of 25%. So if you heard the pain sound that they were 25% or lower, you knew you had a chance to finish them off with one more good hit. I think thats an idea they could implement without killing any immersion
Barbarian Pros and Cons: Pros: • Highest HP in the game • Highest melee damage output in the game (oneshot or two shot) • Extremely fast with sheathed weapon and rage popped ( can run faster than rogues, rangers, wizards) - Can stack ranged throwing axes to deal with other ranged (can also apply slow bleed to axes) - Extremely resistant to magic (Ironwill perk, also stops knockback from fireballs) -Can Break down doors. Cons: -they roar really loud? -Barb users report Brain and Peepee size shrinkage? - they make every class feel weak in comparison after playing.
An absolute banger video! There has yet to be a single DnD video by you that has left me dissapointed. Good balance of comedy mixed with great opinions that are based on first hand experience.
@@TheSpudHunter i feel like this is one of your best videos on this game because you care and want this game to improve... two years of holding the line is tough! but i believe in ironmace and i hope this game doesnt end up like the cycle :( 900hours in the cycle frontier man i miss that game
Idk I’ve always found move speed being so easily build on barbs more of the issue as opposed to the axes I die more times to a barb who was able to keep up with me bc he built an agi barb
Steam release isn't gonna save the game unless there are some major fundamental reworks. It's still early access so I'm rooting for ironmace but damn it's not looking great, which sucks cuz I genuinely like a lot about this game.
Finally. Someone, someone had to say it. Every point in this video, is pure gold. Ironmace needs to sit on the floor for a week in high roller getting 1 shot by default kits before touching code again
In the ranged game I feel like bows crossbows and throwing weapons have such an advantage over spells: Generally a single click with no loud and bright charge up time, does more damage, unlimited use with no rest, unlimited range, travels faster, is harder to see and thus dodge or identify where the player is. I am pretty new to this game and I want to play casters but they feel so unwieldy. I felt like every fight I got in that if I tried to cast a spell I would simply be decaptitated in a single hit. The most luck I had was igniting my staff and going into melee and praying I killed them before they killed me which really doesn't feel very wizard-like. They really need some fast/instant cast spell system that includes more meaningful control. The duration on all control spells is incredibly short. And, landing spells is so tough with everyone just dodging constantly. Projectile Spells with a hitbox just clip the environment and hitscan spells feel like they never land when they should or have shit range.
i have a what you call a goon strat in solos of trapping where i think the last room of portals are going to be in ruins then i team with people let them get trapped and kill them best way of combatting teaming
For Wizards: i feel like you could make a cooldown mechanic where if you use lets say 1/5 of whatever spell, its the longest cooldown for one spell to comeback. and if you spam all 5 uses within a span of a brawl or fight, the cooldown is shortest and gradually lengthens with each spell coming back. originally had the idea backwards but tldr the cooldown is like that of any other characters skills but its on a gradual scale to prevent spam and let wizard move around.
Yeah keep basing all your beliefs playing solo only I didnt see you complain about ranger in his peak or 9g spellbook naked wizards rolling lobbies, why is that?
@@mikless6936every issue is as easy as a patch that fixes said issue.... Thats how that works... The issue needs to be known by the devs. To be fixed. The game wouldn't die if they actually made it PVE only mode and a PVP for those who want it. The player base would be much much higher and they would have more money and more time to make PVP balanced... but they really are killing the enjoyment by not making a PVE only mode for those who want it. I knew about a year ago this game was going to die and end up like League of Legends... good at first until they changed everything and made it worse.
what i enjoyed most in the dungeonborne playtest compared to DaD: -no throwing knives, no throwing axes, no rangers. -different models for different levels of gear so you can instantly tell how geared someone is -damage numbers letting you know how its going
Game got boring VERY quickly for me. Same maps, same characters, no new items/weapons/spells, not nerfing things that need to be nerfed, not buffing things that need to be buffed, the laggy shit servers. I understand that they don't have a lot of people working on the game, but it's been stale and almost exactly the same since it was released. I'm positive the ONLY reason it's alive is because it is one of a kind. And that's a perfect point you mentioned. It's not a skill game. It's a gear game. The only time skill matters if you're a top top player min/maxing your movement which the normal player doesn't do. I enjoy the normal gamemode because it's "Even" It take 5+ hits with every weapon to kill and players like me who aren't sweating and we can just swing at eachother brain turned off without having to worry "What if he has a purple?" Wizard and Cleric is boring as fuck because I don't want to play sit on the fuckin floor, I want to play Dark and Darker without having to bring a campfire. It's not a casual game.
I think the need to rest is fine and I like the mechanic in that it forces you to find safety to recharge spells, but they need to remove meditate and make normal resting as fast as a campfire for spells honestly. Sitting for ~10 secs and keeping an ear open isn't too disruptive.
When you think of a longbow in the context of a wizard spell. It's got - virtually unlimited use - easier to hit (than ice bolt or fireball for example) - high damage - fast cast time - can cast in the dark without alerting the enemy player - huge range. If I were to try to snipe with a fireball the enemy would easily dodge it. It's honestly dumb. And I don't even want them to focus on class balance because I know it'll be 20 more updates turning all these knobs way up and way down without addressing actual issues. And we won't get any new content.
As a cleric main, my questions for you are, what even is a ranged attack? What even is movement speed? 🤣 Great class for pve, but as soon as pvp hits, the ranged meta means my options are holy strike and...that's it. The other two spells technically exist, but aren't meant for solo play at all, require me to stand still while channeling, and one of them just does nothing if the enemy doesn't move. I have a single reasonable ranged spell with four charges and a delayed damage effect that can left before it takes effect. After that, I walk at people and swing a slow stick menacingly in the hope they walk into it. "But you're using smite, you should use judgement!" Oh, you mean that extremely close range button that goes on full cooldown if they leave the range of it during the cast time, during which I can't move? The one that I have to be so precise with that I can't target it if the person's unused shield is in the way? The one that does less damage than most weapon swings? Yaokbye. "But what about divi-" The skill that has a 90 second cooldown but only lasts 4 seconds? Yeah, that might help against one barbarian, but what about the second, third, and the ranger watching it all happen? After all, there's even less portal spawns now, and 80% of them happen in a tiny-ass area as the timer ticks down. 4 seconds of physical mitigation buff vs a room full of people that can all chuck stuff at me from across the room and slow me while doing it even more? Nah. I definitely feel for the wizards, though. And can relate on the whole resting is boring thing. Top 5% going "wElL aChShUaLiE" but the game has issues. I just checked out of curiosity, 49 clerics at demigod atm.
The after image change with invis was the nail in the coffin for me - that's wizard's only gap closing tool against rangers and now we get lit up in pretty lights saying "here we are, come shoot us !!! :)" probably the most unfun gameplay change they've ever done.
I know you think the rage is a bad look, but that is genuinely some of the most hilarious and relatable content I’ve seen on this game. I would legit just watch a compilation of you raging at the unfair bullshit in this game because anyone with eyes can see that it clearly. Is. Bullshit.
I think the fundamentals of the game are flawed and have always been. RPG rock paper scissors combat + hardcore full loot vertical gear grinder + Battle Royale pvp arena = toxic rng simulator. Too much rng in combat matchups, "potential player coordination", spawns, closing zones, gear/scaling, hidden metrics (dmg numbers, mdr, pdr, gear quality, etc) just creates this mess of imaginary progression in a very costly game type. If gear/ap is the carrot the players chase after and the rng of the game overrides that aspect, then the player feels like all their effort is meaningless/hopeless. In all honesty, I don't think they can ever make rpg rock paper scissors combat work without some sort of universal combat system around either melee or ranged for all classes and the hardcore nature of the game is just a slap in the face for this poor design because your penalized for poor rng. Ironmace would have to make some bold moves against the community to turn things around for the actually health of the game. No player should be forced to FOTM reroll to the best class of the patch in order to thrive and have fun because in my opinion this is poor game design structure. We need to move away from classes and combat deficiencies to sort of homogenize and balance the game in a way that no player is set up to fail by rng rather than actual mistakes made....but I doubt the community would go for it because rpg/pvp games foster some of the most volatile individuals known to gaming.
To your damage number section, totally agree can't tell you how many times as a ranger I've 3 hit someone and been like they're pushing me should be low so I commit to the 5 tap "spread shot" only to find out they have massive Armor/Dmg Reduction are now on top of me now and I'm fucked... Two scenarios that come to mind were a bard and a fighter. After death screen scoping them out full purples, had I known would have bailed... Also can't tell you how many times I've been in the same situation and the person pushing was bluffing and that spread shot lands and they flop over.
Give them a bit more health (so they don't die instantly) and allow spells past the limit to cost health instead. This fits well into the risk vs reward mechanics of the Wizard while not allowing ambush strategies to be so devastating against them. Remove meditation completely, and make spells regenerate much faster out of combat. That would allow you to carry more spells, and new spells can be added. Imagine if you took a cue from World of Warcraft and gave them something like Blink or Frost Nova or Polymorph... these are the types of abilities would help with their poor mobility and would be great for solo play (since all of these allow them to deal with multiple players). The clunkiness of combat and especially casting spells in this game would require some amount of prediction. If any class should feel slippery and able to get away, it should be the glass cannon.
From the QnA, they mention adding the quiver and how they're gonna use that mechanic to limit throwables I assume all classes will get a sort of quiver/satchel, and that's how u have to store arrows and axes now, they will not longer go in your inventory, and there'll be a cap, like 4 axes, 60 arrows, 15 bolts, etc
"Just lightning strike" Yeah until you run into the person that realizes that all you have to do IS JUMP IN THE AIR AND YOU WILL NEVER GET HIT BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE EVER.
I wished they made Spell Memory actually mean something to a Wizard. You can get all your spells you want with relative ease with minimum gear. Id love for you to be able to cast spells indefinably, but they cost a ton more memory. Like you can only cast 3 low tier spells on base wizard, but with high-end gear you can cast 6-8 spells.
IM every hotfix: -Nerfed Wizard damage by half -Nerfed Bard (for fun lol) -Increased AP for player kills (instead of 4 Ap its now 8 Ap) -Kris dagger animation changed.
There should be a passive that says, "Meditation" now replces "rest" With withdrawal being meditation, dont recover health for wizard. (Unless next to fireplace)
The only thing you see in solo que is Warriors with crossbow/ FRANCISCA AXE and second Barbs with FRANCISCA AXE . That's it,almost no other classes, rare ranger/rogue.
At first I really liked getting a bunch of ap with friendly lobbies, than a few days went by and I realized im not having fun with the game anymore. I tried doing pvp the next day and lost gear set after gear set to teams - and I just stopped playing entirely.
my suggestion for the the sitting on the floor for half the match problem is to JUST ADD CANTRIPS. add mote of fire, make zap weaker and make it free, add poison spray etc. and then maybe even change the number of spell slots from 5 to 6 to make up for the loss of powerful spell slots
my suggestion for spell downtime: add a timer/cooldown between each cast, but give infinite amount of casts, rewarding the use of multiple different spells (maybe even a damage bonus for combining different types of magic damage) so no resting but like (just for example) you have to wait 3 seconds between every fireball cast
Thank you for bringing awareness to the Wizard problems Spud. Hopefully the devs will realize, with wizard being so weak in HP and Armor options, they should make spells just as powerful as before, 6+ second invis and no footstep sound, 12dam Magic Missiles, and better rolls on HR gear for wizards; the blue hat being better than those two purples are insane, and i've seen it too with green gear getting +6 rolls to some stats and my precious purple loot being +.6 movement speed or summ shit smh
I think the solution is simple and lies in taking inspiration from dark and darker's biggest influence; dungeons and dragons. What they need to do is make certain spells (weaker ones specifically like zap or ice bolt) and make them unlimited cast. Like cantrips in d&d. This gives them the ability to always have a spell to fight with, without having to sit on the floor to actually be able to fight at all. Think about it, unlimited zaps solves the wizard gameplay dilemma. They can always fight with some amount of proficiency, even when completely drained of all the larger spells. You could expand on this and have a selection of spells that have no limit casting, but you can only take 1 into any given match. Maybe 2 with a perk.
people say barb is only now a problem but they always have been just because of their design They deal a shit ton of damage, have alot of health, good magic and phys resist, ranged options with throwing axes, arent even stopped by doors and are faster than a rogue with a sheathed weapons when using 1 skill. Barbs need a clear weakness like other classes. Fighters are slow in plate, rangers can be burst down in melee along with wizards and warlocks, bards and rogues can be killed quickly due to their low defence and health. Barbs have 0 weaknesses and are just strong in every way
Fully agree with wizard spell regen.. I’ve been playing for a week now, and I’ve only played wizard, this is literally the only big problem, I can deal with situational circumstances killing me, but INCREASING that by having to sit for so long or bring 3 campfires to be able to clear fast enough before your closest opponent spawn rushes you.
The lag has been exactly the same recently in the US servers. Lost a crazy bard kit because a Skelton archer shot at where I used to be until I died as I sat behind him and just watched him shoot a ghost.
I personally believe mages need SUPER spells, vs cantrips. Cantrips can be used infinitely. Super spells have a flat number of usages can't be gotten back at all. There. Super spells like fireball now are allowed to be MUCH MUCH stronger. Fireball radius? 3x bigger. Leaves fire on ground. Takes 50% longer to cast. Each super spell takes a flat amount of knowledge points. You can take as many of any as you want if you have enough knowledge. Fireball costs 10 each. Whatever doesn't matter. You can go in with 1 cast, or 5. You pick utility vs damage. Cantrips would be frost bolt, zap, magic missiles(yep cantrip, infinite number of casts can be channeled infinitely nerfed damage from what we have if you want whateves). Etc. Chain lightning strikes more aoe targets and prioritizes not you. etc
brainstorm: give wizard an energy meter that regens slowly and when is runs out because you casted too many spells in a short period of time you get some sort of energy rebound that penalizes the wizard. this would make wizard not cast 15 spells in a fight and then they don't have to sit down to gain spells.
I feel like while sitting on the floor sucks gameplay wise, it is the basis of the DnD, which was the fantasy IronMace were trying to pursue with Dark and Darker. I'm not really a wizard player, so take this with a grain of salt, but maybe something like Cantrips, spells that don't have a spell count or a cost, would solve this issue. They'd do a bit less damage and way less damage to players, thus allowing for main skills to be used for PvP and cantrips be used for PvE. Something like this would remove the burden to burn spells with costs on clearing mobs/playing the game, and allow wizards to maintain both the DnD fantasy as well spell count management mechanic.
Spells should just regenerate on their own over time, slowly, no matter what you're doing. Melees can pickup their frannys if they miss (melees btw), rangers can reload their quivers in combat, most abilities CD are over in about 30 seconds or less so they can be used multiple times in many fights... And wizard gets to sit!
what if they gave wizards a spell, like ice armour or something that temporarily buffs their PDR and maybe has some small sub effects like applying a minor (10%) slow or a half-second stun to enemies or it reflects a % of the damage back as magic damage if they get hit in melee. it might take a few tries to balance it by tweaking the memory cost, PDR amount, duration etc. you dont want it to be an automatic "I win" button vs melee but it should be tweaked so that its enough to stop them being 1 tapped by steam tank barbs all day long. or at least gives the mage a chance
11:50 ~ One thing that I also hated about this game since it's inception is how you cannot tell what are you fighting against. One of the best skills in Tarkov is how can you tell what gear the enemy has, is there even a point aiming for the head or should you just shred his legs etc. Here if somebody is wearing a Wizard hat it may be a default or it may be a legendary, you have absolutely no idea. I don't know if this can change though, they aim to have these RPG stats adding various different things and you can't simply have a different model for each combination.
Maybe an idea for Wizard could be that their one spell block (Q or E) has 10 spells, which would then allow you take meditate. Still have to sit on the floor a little, but it might help
Warlocks feel like the best spell caster because despite the spells deal self damage, you can use your summon or surrounding mobs to get health back. Or throw all caution to the wind and spam use spells with the perk that doesnt let you die when using spells. Cleric and wizard? Sit. And at least Cleric can bonk people, Wizard is kinda screwed without the riveting gameplay of sit
Cleric is a lot better than wizard but my friends say “play cleric” when I want to switch I don’t want to sit for 3 hours while you get all the loot because it’s the only time I can regain spells or else we get stuck in zone.
Bard being forgotten in this video is the absolute cherry on top, completely useless solo and never in the patch notes, never talked about, and non-existent on the leaderboards, but you bring it up and everyone says its fine and just goes back to complaining about everything else
Fighter maine here. Solo wizard does seem like garbage I can’t lie, but man am I happy for my team not to wiped by 3 fireballs every trios match I played last year. I genuinely think this game is just difficult to balance. They need to decide if they’re making a pvp game or a pve one, a solo game or a trios one, a looter shooter or a survival game. They just need to make some decisions and stick with them.
I disagree that the wizard or any magic user needs to have faster magic Regen. I do however think bard and barbarian need to be heavily nerfed. Throwing axes need to have weight and weight needs to be directly tied to their speed regardless of buffs. Also stop complaining about there being a meta and saying you want damage numbers being displayed in the same breath. It makes no sense
haven't gotten a chance to watch the full vid but i remember on stream you saying you don't want barb nerfed, you want other classes brought up to that level. which i totally agree with! would love cleric to feel as scarry as a barb choo choo'ing through a door at someone lol. hope that sentiment remained in this video! i also find it funny how cleric remains largely undiscussed in the solo meta when it's in an even worse state than wizard in the current meta IF you don't camp dark swarm. if you just cheese in the swarm then cleric is great. but outside of the swarm, where potential PVP happens, absolute bottom of the barrel. worst ranged options in the game while also being one of, if not the, slowest class in the game. and nothing is more important in dark and darker than speed and ranged damage. currently on the leaderboard there are 37 demigod wizards, and 46 demigod clerics. the two lowest ranked classes on the solo HR leaderboards.
Idk, if everyone was brought up to barbs level the game would have very little gameplay or meaning. Whats wrong with a class having an actual weakness? The onetapping tanks with their flat ~50+ speed skills on a ~20s cooldown need to be nerfed for this game to survive.
would it be a good change to: give wizard autorecovery outside of combat make sitting even faster meditation fully recharges everything not matter how many spells were used ?
I agree in number and degree, I couldn't have said it better. I've been playing this game since playtest 2 and I play with all the classes, but the wizard is my favorite, so thank you Spud, it's like you read my mind. Playing as a solo Wizard has been an extremely exhausting experience.

They could just have spells recharge constantly (but very slowly) as you’re running around, then have it boosted when by a campfire or resting

Just because he was actually killing plate fighters as quickly as plate fighters kill everyone else.. when he's supposed to be a *gLaSs CaNnOn* to begin with, its just sad.

preach spud. the sad truth is most players in COMPETITIVE PVP games will take the path of least resisitance for most reward. in overwatch recently there was a tank (same thing as bard) with the best healing, dmg, and tanking presence, and instead of self moderating people just abused it since the devs took forever, month and a half, to fix. most barbs just want to win and will bandwagon to the next META

You can't depend on the community for balance. I quit playing Overwatch when Mauga came out. It's a pretty bad game now anyways lol.
Overwatch is a hentai game who tf cares about balance lol
Yet this amounts to work and if I just want to sell something I'd propably won't do it.
This game is literally a hardcore extraction game. It's like Tarkov. It isn't "non-competitive." It is meant to be hardcore and sweaty. Thats the fuckin point
@@brianestepa2376 "sweaty" and "fun" aren't mutually exclusive.

Rework meditate to be a skill that gives you spells as you move. Then rework resting for spells by making the spell in hand while resting have 3x the normal rate recovery rate.
This sounds ideal- you could still jingle with the Meditation sound to make it detectable
Like that's amazing and all but you only have now 5 spells and that's a massive cut nomather the pay off
And while your recovering spells you're locked from casting
they already did that, sitting gives like 2x the regen it used to.
the way spells are balanced is you need a campfire to regen them if they're above T1-T2 spells. high tier spells take FOREVER to regenerate, when i play wizard i just play for fun and do fire dagger with shield skill.
the issue is that high tier spells take TOO LONG to recover, not that the regen is too slow t1 and t2 spells are basically instant recovery, its like 3-4 seconds of sitting. for a zap. im pretty sure ur abvel to recover all 5 zap before getting ur second fireball back. it makes no sense, its ridiculous,
the high tier spells need to recover faster. thats all
there's no point trying to spend 10k gold on a kit only to be 2shot by a ranger. or ran at and 2-3 shot by a barbarian who never even attempted to melee me and just threw 8 axes at my spine or have to wait 3 minutes placing a campfire and sitting before i can play the game again. i just run fire daggers with ball and use zap/icebolt as my only other damage spells + the shield skill, no meditate. i live or die by the blade.
Give barb a stamina bar that drains with each swing or thrown weapon and when it runs out you have to sit down for 10mins before you can attack again haha
peak barbarian gameplay that would be funny, suck it and meditate to get your throwing axes back

This was the perfect laugh to end a long week!

Valid points were also sprinkled in between the massive wizard rants but why not just title it why wizard sucks or something? I want damage numbers too but my biggest reason is I want to know when my hits don't register, like when ur in the lobby and u swing at the dummy and sometimes the hits on the dummy don't register and u don't get numbers, who knows how often that happens mid fight
And information is always good, more information leads to more skill expression, I also want sound queues for when u hit head vs body vs limbs
The headshot sound could be really satisfying, and getting a bunch of limb sounds tells the player they need to aim better and could help players immediately understand why they lost and how to improve "man I hit arm 4 times and he hit head twice and body once, I gotta stop panicking and aim better" more info more skill expression
It would be nice to get to see the log when you die so you can spot hacks and the like better, a la tarkov damage reports

@@TheSpudHunterfar more appealing than sitting for fucking charges, no lie. Or just meleeing every mob because you have charges you want to save.
They should lower the damage of thrown weapons and make them unaffected by stats
Also they should nerf the slow on throwing axes. Some people will just throw 10 at you. Yeah only 3 might hit, but thats a lot.

Hope to see IM fix these issues at some point moving forward.
really awesome video man! was wondering what was happening to the game lately havent been hearing about it at all
I am so happy this guy makes Dark and Darker content. Thanks for providing for the community and being passionate with your work. Continue to do it 🔫
As much as I love barbarian.
Dark and darker desperately needs one of these if not both)
Haven't played in months. Don't really see myself coming back, which is sad. Thanks for sharing your opinion on the issues of the game.
same... held the line for two years and recently i cant even bring myself to play the game without a wave of sadness and disgust
You, and most of the original content creators that put this game on in the first place! The community has been astroturfed hard.
the damage numbers idea goes insanely hard and i cant believe i havent thought of that yet, also spent a considerable amount of time getting flamed on the discord today for the “sitting is bad” take but it genuinely does need to change
Have you ever even played barb? 80% of the time you are taking gear off running them down naked with a torch just to catch them
@@9and12wholepizzas Yes I have. And you don't need to take anything off. What have you been playing?

There was a game I played where they had different pain grunts depending on how much health they had left, in increments of 25%. So if you heard the pain sound that they were 25% or lower, you knew you had a chance to finish them off with one more good hit. I think thats an idea they could implement without killing any immersion
Quake
Barbarian Pros and Cons:
Pros: • Highest HP in the game
• Highest melee damage output in the game (oneshot or two shot)
• Extremely fast with sheathed weapon and rage popped ( can run faster than rogues, rangers, wizards)
- Can stack ranged throwing axes to deal with other ranged (can also apply slow bleed to axes)
- Extremely resistant to magic (Ironwill perk, also stops knockback from fireballs)
-Can Break down doors.
Cons:
-they roar really loud?
-Barb users report Brain and Peepee size shrinkage?
- they make every class feel weak in comparison after playing.
An absolute banger video! There has yet to be a single DnD video by you that has left me dissapointed.
Good balance of comedy mixed with great opinions that are based on first hand experience.
I was pretty heated this one, was a struggle to try and make it funny at times. Glad you enjoyed it :)
@@TheSpudHunter i feel like this is one of your best videos on this game because you care and want this game to improve...
two years of holding the line is tough! but i believe in ironmace and i hope this game doesnt end up like the cycle :(
900hours in the cycle frontier man i miss that game
What if Wizard had a perk where they restore spells based on your spell recovery per melee hit?
Idk I’ve always found move speed being so easily build on barbs more of the issue as opposed to the axes I die more times to a barb who was able to keep up with me bc he built an agi barb
Steam release isn't gonna save the game unless there are some major fundamental reworks. It's still early access so I'm rooting for ironmace but damn it's not looking great, which sucks cuz I genuinely like a lot about this game.
Comment to support re-upload and Spuddy ❤
Cheers brudda
Finally. Someone, someone had to say it. Every point in this video, is pure gold. Ironmace needs to sit on the floor for a week in high roller getting 1 shot by default kits before touching code again
i think they need to remove the whole rock paper scissors matchup gameplay
We need clarity potions again.
hope you keep spitting king, i do not have the patience to suffer through the game anymore hopefully changes are on the way
i have a what you call a goon strat in solos of trapping where i think the last room of portals are going to be in ruins then i team with people let them get trapped and kill them best way of combatting teaming
Yeah keep basing all your beliefs playing solo only
I didnt see you complain about ranger in his peak or 9g spellbook naked wizards rolling lobbies, why is that?
Because I did on live stream. I don't document every thought and word on TH-cam.
@@TheSpudHunter then why do it now if this issue is as easy as a balance patch
@@mikless6936every issue is as easy as a patch that fixes said issue....

It's kind of like it's a well constructed video with a lot of different points
10 mins of sitting down though
The game wouldn't die if they actually made it PVE only mode and a PVP for those who want it. The player base would be much much higher and they would have more money and more time to make PVP balanced... but they really are killing the enjoyment by not making a PVE only mode for those who want it. I knew about a year ago this game was going to die and end up like League of Legends... good at first until they changed everything and made it worse.
what i enjoyed most in the dungeonborne playtest compared to DaD:
-no throwing knives, no throwing axes, no rangers.
-different models for different levels of gear so you can instantly tell how geared someone is
-damage numbers letting you know how its going
As a wizard main I haven’t played the game in 3 weeks. Even the new map won’t bring me back.
It's got
- virtually unlimited use
- easier to hit (than ice bolt or fireball for example)
- high damage
- fast cast time
- can cast in the dark without alerting the enemy player
- huge range.
Great class for pve, but as soon as pvp hits, the ranged meta means my options are holy strike and...that's it.
Is. Bullshit.
Much love
0:56 You thought you could sneak a Command and Conquer '95 infantry scream in there and we wouldn't notice
:)
From the QnA, they mention adding the quiver and how they're gonna use that mechanic to limit throwables
I assume all classes will get a sort of quiver/satchel, and that's how u have to store arrows and axes now, they will not longer go in your inventory, and there'll be a cap, like 4 axes, 60 arrows, 15 bolts, etc
"Just lightning strike"
Yeah until you run into the person that realizes that all you have to do IS JUMP IN THE AIR AND YOU WILL NEVER GET HIT BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE EVER.
IM every hotfix:
-Nerfed Wizard damage by half
-Nerfed Bard (for fun lol)
-Increased AP for player kills (instead of 4 Ap its now 8 Ap)
-Kris dagger animation changed.
There should be a passive that says,
"Meditation" now replces "rest"
With withdrawal being meditation, dont recover health for wizard. (Unless next to fireplace)
The only thing you see in solo que is Warriors with crossbow/ FRANCISCA AXE and second Barbs with FRANCISCA AXE
. That's it,almost no other classes,rare ranger/rogue.
At first I really liked getting a bunch of ap with friendly lobbies, than a few days went by and I realized im not having fun with the game anymore. I tried doing pvp the next day and lost gear set after gear set to teams - and I just stopped playing entirely.
They hated him because he spoke the truth 😔
TY for the reupload, glad the algorithm let me see it and hope it gets even further than me too
my suggestion for the the sitting on the floor for half the match problem is to JUST ADD CANTRIPS. add mote of fire, make zap weaker and make it free, add poison spray etc. and then maybe even change the number of spell slots from 5 to 6 to make up for the loss of powerful spell slots
my suggestion for spell downtime: add a timer/cooldown between each cast, but give infinite amount of casts, rewarding the use of multiple different spells (maybe even a damage bonus for combining different types of magic damage)
so no resting but like (just for example) you have to wait 3 seconds between every fireball cast
as a wizard main, i agree with everything in here. ALSO WHY CANT WE WEAR OCCULTIST PANTS!?!?
Thank you for bringing awareness to the Wizard problems Spud. Hopefully the devs will realize, with wizard being so weak in HP and Armor options, they should make spells just as powerful as before, 6+ second invis and no footstep sound, 12dam Magic Missiles, and better rolls on HR gear for wizards; the blue hat being better than those two purples are insane, and i've seen it too with green gear getting +6 rolls to some stats and my precious purple loot being +.6 movement speed or summ shit smh
I'ma Dm this to SDF.. brb
Maybe 2 with a perk.
people say barb is only now a problem but they always have been just because of their design
They deal a shit ton of damage, have alot of health, good magic and phys resist, ranged options with throwing axes, arent even stopped by doors and are faster than a rogue with a sheathed weapons when using 1 skill.
THANK YOU!! I want to play Wizard but the the design choice of resting and sitting is so fucking boring and annoying... Thanks for voicing this out
I personally believe mages need SUPER spells, vs cantrips.
Sit. And at least Cleric can bonk people, Wizard is kinda screwed without the riveting gameplay of sit
if DaD put half as much effort into balancing as you do your backgrounds, we would be living in a utopia
Bard is not bad in solo played it the whole patch similar to slayer fighter.
the dmg on the dummys at 12:26 is bugged you can be a full kit barb and still only hit like 15 or 20 on it i think it just has really high PDR and MR
Weren t they already nerfed
haven't gotten a chance to watch the full vid but i remember on stream you saying you don't want barb nerfed, you want other classes brought up to that level. which i totally agree with! would love cleric to feel as scarry as a barb choo choo'ing through a door at someone lol. hope that sentiment remained in this video!
i also find it funny how cleric remains largely undiscussed in the solo meta when it's in an even worse state than wizard in the current meta IF you don't camp dark swarm. if you just cheese in the swarm then cleric is great. but outside of the swarm, where potential PVP happens, absolute bottom of the barrel. worst ranged options in the game while also being one of, if not the, slowest class in the game. and nothing is more important in dark and darker than speed and ranged damage.
currently on the leaderboard there are 37 demigod wizards, and 46 demigod clerics. the two lowest ranked classes on the solo HR leaderboards.
Idk, if everyone was brought up to barbs level the game would have very little gameplay or meaning.
Whats wrong with a class having an actual weakness? The onetapping tanks with their flat ~50+ speed skills on a ~20s cooldown need to be nerfed for this game to survive.
would it be a good change to:
give wizard autorecovery outside of combat
make sitting even faster
meditation fully recharges everything not matter how many spells were used
?
I agree in number and degree, I couldn't have said it better. I've been playing this game since playtest 2 and I play with all the classes, but the wizard is my favorite, so thank you Spud, it's like you read my mind. Playing as a solo Wizard has been an extremely exhausting experience.
the lag is what got me so many times this reset especially when you get one of them "fight for your life" spawns where there's 20 goblins/kobolds around you and you can't even move cause of jitters. GG
