I believe that most low level jobs will become extinct but the really good 3D arits will have much higher demand similar to what is happening with programming jobs. So just become better than everyone else lol.
Not necessarily, probably initially, but as things improve, you’ll probably be able to get more optimized generation than what some people do right now.
I do hope we do more research into the gaussian splatting, because it feels like that could have some very interesting applications that aren't possible with basic meshing models

Agreed. I think spats are great for film and non-gaming things like arch-vis, but they have a long way to go before they can come close to traditional polygonal rendering.
And games will become even less optimized. Developers are already lazy nowadays and shift all optimization to Nanite, which is why modern games take up a lot of space and are demanding on hardware. With these 3D model generators, there will be hype just like with Nanite-everyone will rush to use AI for generating 3D models, and games will lag even more
You can still retopo the unoptimised AI model. Same as you do with sculpted or scanned models nowadays. Nanite just promises on what it can't deliver - high quality automated lods.
Insane work by 2025 this will be something amazing i've made pyhton learning programs for blender for data. I don't think it will replace artist but I do think it will help the common man Eventually people are going to start making full blown movies with this stuff with the help of ai It will be great. But I don't think it will be taking anyone's jobs instead a skill you could learn for the job

As I understand, AI in 3D art still requires and will require in the future a level of human involvement, that would make a 3d artist irreplaceable at the end of the day. Essentially instead of threatening to make the profession extinct completely(as it would do in 2D art) it will just make the job easier, which is a good thing.
Yeah, it is very depressing that every single person on the planet will be able to do what just a few could do because AI is significantly lowering the barrier of entry. As a developer, I wouldn’t say it’s completely useless. It’s definitely helped me when it comes to learning new libraries and writing out a lot of boiler plate code.

There were 15 concept artists, now they're less than 10. And they're arguably more efficient than ever. Half of the remaining concept team are using AI extensively, the rest producing/editing stuff the AI can't handle or things that go public. So those won't be fired. Yet. There are 100+ modellers. The majority is producing "background simple stuff" as you put it. How many of those positions do you think will remain in a couple of years? AI/LLMs are amazing, they are very likely the inevitable future. But don't give me bs about them not replacing jobs, that's ridiculously ignorant. You don't even have to trust my word, try talking to anyone in the industry. We're all living it.

a lot of AI related stuff from nvidia is open source. Open source nurtures research, and AI research makes nvidia sell more GPU's. They'll never open source CUDA though, it would ruin their monopoly.

It's just not profitable so people can't do it as a job (or very few people can) Same thing here, nobody stops you from using old techniques for a hobby, you just won't be able to make money from that when AI gets good and available

I don't understand the artists hate against AI. It will allow them to do their job more easely and quickly, and they will be able to freely use their creativity without having to spend hours upon hours tinkering with complicated software. I don't get why AI is a bad thing AT ALL.
Simple, it the greedy Corporation-Boss problem who don't understand art and 3D so will just fire most people and only use AI to do the job there to saves cost (or worse, copy other art design more blatantly depend on what AI and type of jobs). A good one would have use their experienced artist to use AI to reduce cost and time so they can work faster with higher quality thank for time reduced for experiments. Either way the newbie will be the one who suffer since AI technically replace them unless they send lot of time train and improve themself to late stage of 'Junior' job rank that are about to medium rank ?
