PLC Wiring Diagram - How to EASILY read it

  • ▶ C'mon over to realpars.com where you can learn PLC programming faster and easier than you ever thought possible!
    =============================
    ▶ Check out the full blog post over at
    realpars.com/panel-wiring-dia...
    =============================
    In this video, we’re going to go back and have a look at the control panel, and try and figure out some of the connections by following a wiring diagram.
    As we’ve said before, this is a control panel that is used for a system that turns wastewater into clean water.
    It is a 2-door control panel on the front of which we have some switches that are connected to the PLC inputs and outputs.
    We are going to look at these switches and try and figure out the wiring behind them, as you may be curious as to how these switches are wired to the PLC!
    Let us first identify our push buttons; we have the Mute Buzzer push button, the ESD Reset push button and the Emergency Stop push button.
    Try to remember them, and see if we can find any of these items in the electrical drawings.
    All the wiring that you see in the panel is done based on the wiring diagram. This is what we draw using AutoCAD.
    Each page of this wiring diagram shows the exact wiring for different sections of this control panel.
    In the back of the Emergency Stop push button, you see that we have four wires, just as what we have on the wiring diagram.
    Two wires are tagged as 1 and two wires are tagged as 2. Based on the diagram, one of these wires with the tag 2 goes to the PLC digital input.
    It says the tag for the PLC input that the push button is connected to is 300U2.1.
    These are the tags for the PLC inputs and outputs.
    One end of this diagram is connected to the push button and the other end is connected to the PLC input. So this is how easy it is to read the wiring diagram for a control panel.
    It goes exactly the same for the other switches that we have here as well.
    So to sum it all up, here is what you are going to learn after watching this video:
    - All the wiring that you see in the panel is done based on the wiring diagram. This is what we draw using AutoCAD Electrical.
    - Each page of the wiring diagram shows the exact wiring for different sections of the control panel.
    - Each of the wires in the wiring diagram has a tag number. These tags can be found in the panel as well.
    - Using the page numbers and the sections, in the wiring diagram, you can easily follow the wires and see where each wire is coming from.

      @Norbert Klár hahaha. Nah it's just that we were all tired as hell in class cause we were working full time jobs and raising families at the same time, while the instructor would just belt out a boring ass monotone lecture for 4 hours straight. Ain't keeping anybody engaged or interested, let alone understand and comprehend.

    As an electrical engineer in a brick factory, I come across the exact info in your video's that I use in practice. I am 25 and have been in the workforce for 3 years now, and the info in these video's are so clear! Love them, and learn some things too (The PLC Video's!)
    Keep up the good content!
    Too bad most of my coworkers speak hardly any English. I would love to show them these video's for information about their machines and such!
    Love from The Netherlands!

      Hi Thomas,
      Amazing to hear that! We are very happy to hear that our course videos our so helpful to you.
      Unfortunately, we do not have any Dutch subtitles to our course videos for your coworkers. But most videos do provide the option to turn on the English Subtitles, hopefully that helps!

    “Each of these wires has a tag number”. Lol, I haven’t had a good schematic laugh in awhile. Yes, we definitely hope there are line tags without jumpers in the terminal blocks or someone’s undocumented “better idea” stuffed in the panel. Excellent info as usual. A great channel for anyone and everyone. Thx.👍

      Unfortunately, what they pointed out as the wire "tag number" really isn't. Those numbers represent the PIN numbers on the device, not the wire numbers.

      I had an error message on my machine at work. I explained how I took the error message in the hmi, and back tracked the street address to an area on my machine. I then locked it out and deep cleaned it with the air. I was standing on a ladder looking on top of a carriage when the mechanic showed up. He asked what was wrong and I showed him the picture of the error and how I followed the street addresses which led me here like bread crumbs. Then we both climbed up ladders and looked… there plain as day was the cable unplugged. Lol. He was the only mechanic that never laughed at me. He then went and explained everything I did to the electrical manager. I was told they went out to my machine and looked at my logic. Then promoted me to maintenance so I could learn more. 😊

    Now, speaking from my little experience in automation way, this what you showed in this video it's only 50% saftey via Emergency Button! It's better to use 2 NC poles and 1 NO pole wich goes into PLC. In this way, you have better chance to avoid future problems in those contacts and is way more safety aplied to the people around. Cheers :)
