Craftsman 12" lathe headstock alignment. It's fixed!

    Interesting, I have that lathe and I’m in the process of rebuilding/restoration and will look for that when I get it back together.

    A friend of a friend with 50 years in the trade? That's what a guy needs. That had to be a heck of a wallop to deform those castings. I'm beginning to realize that if you don't drop it and keep it lubricated a lathe will last forever.

    I wouldn't be surprised if the chisel was how it was initially calibrated.
    looking good, need to get mine going. I have an old 12" Atlas that has taper on the tail stock end too.

      Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I have the southbend 13 inch lathe that I bought to upgrade from the Chraftsman but now I don't want to sell either of them...

    Now just need to check if the cross slide is square to head stock, by turning a large plate and face it and see if it is true...

    Sounds like the bed needs leveled
