This song seem to speak to the pain he feels at having to leave his son with the mother and her abusive boyfriend that is probably mistreating his son. Heartbreaking.
so let me correct this , from what i remember , when this song came out , he portrayed himself as the kid as he grew up in abusive home .there is a interview of him talking about the meaning behind it .
This is a very personal song for me too. Been going through the same situation for 6 years now and it never gets easier. This song, and especially the acoustic version makes me tear up and sometimes cry. It's tough being a man and father and divorcing when your child is only three. Fucked up how money or less of it reveals the truth about your partner's "love" for you.
Man this song hits home for me my parents divorced when I was 1 year old and my dad used to play this in the truck all the time when I was with him every other weekend. Never understood the message until later in life now. It’s about separated parents and the lead singers POV and the chorus is the kids POV about it. At least that’s what I got from it. It kills me to hear it now knowing the pain my father felt giving all of his money for child support and Barely ever getting to see me while watching his family grow with somebody else. I love you pops and always will ❤️

This brought such a human side to Puddle of Mudd with all the songs about partying and drugs. If I remember correctly it’s a long story but he basically got divorced and lost custody of his son and wrote this song for him.
I'm right there with you brother. I've seen so many messed up things in this world, horrible things that nobody should ever have to see. And I realized that the only way to make this world a better place was to spread kindness and joy to as many as I can. It's a struggle for me because I have PTSD and don't like to be around a lot of people, especially crowds. But I'm working on that. I want this world to be a better place for my kids, a safe place for all children. My greatest wish is that nobody ever had to go to war again, that humanity could find a common love for each other. I pray that the day will come when murder and war were things of the past that nobody has to worry about anymore. That being said, I also know the darkest side of humanity that prevents us from reaching that day. Fear, greed, and envy will keep us from ever seeing that day. But it is nice to have hope.
Music comes from and speaks to your soul. I don’t think I would have survived this long in my life without the power of music. I like what you have to say and your message. Music can bring people together
Music connects us all!!! I am so happy you are loving rock! I also take people as they are, if you are kind to me, I am kind to them. We should all live like that.
Van, I’ve grown to love you and your family so much. You’re such a good person, and I just love the spirit within you and the energy you project back into the world❤️
Bro!! I’m feeling you. I get that you get it!! I can see it on your face. This song did the same thing to me years ago. It touches your soul - and changes how you feel about the world and toward our fellow brothers and sisters!!
I love that you stop the music and talk about it. That's what we should all be here for, right? We all can just go listen to music ourselves, uninterrupted. It's the voice of the reactor, their opinions, their interaction with the new that I'm here for. =)
First off, love this song. Hate the ex’s boyfriend. I’ve always told former boyfriends that I’m a package deal. If your not down with that, then your not for me. I never put my children in a situation like that. Even my daughters father, after we split we got along for her. She’s 28 now and her father and I still get along. I know not everyone can do that. This song makes me remember in the beginning my daughter and her ex boyfriend fighting all the time. I worried about my grandson. Now they all get along and my grandson is happy. This song use to make me cry. Family is a wonderful thing and you have to cherish it. Much love ❤️

No, I appreciate your thoughts. Keep going! This song I've always loves because its about a dad who's trying to protect his son from his mom's new abusive boyfriend. Can't tell you how many times I've seen people allow a new boyfriend or girlfriend discipline their kids when they have no business doing so. I was a single mom of 3 ... and I stayed single for ages and never let anyone stick their nose in my business where my kids were concerned and it's something I'm proud of to this day. I'm a grandmother now. It always sickened me to watch this happen. Thank you for your REACTION...its always welcomed 😊
