    Rocoto, the pride of our andean region in Peru! We have been growing these amazing peppers for thousands of years. I'm currently in Lima (Peru), the biggest city (capital city of Peru) but I grow some native rocotos in my garden in Ancash (10,000 feet above sea level), imo they are the best rocotos I've ever had. If anyone is interested in trading seeds just let me know.

    I just stumbled on this, and really enjoyed the video. My mother in-law brought me a bunch of these peppers back from Ecuador last year, and we found them to be the tastiest peppers I think we've ever had. We roasted them and made a simple salsa out of them (with tomatoes, garlic and salt is all). They were hotter than expected, but the taste is just out of this world. Now that they are all gone, and I can't get any more, I am going to try and grow some from the seeds I saved. We live in NW Montana, so I will be starting them indoors over the winter and hopefully by spring they will be established. I wish these were more widely available in stores! Thanks again...

    When you take 6 locotos, eveb from the same plant, one can be almost not hot, a second one can be a killer.. but the other three are perfect and delicious.
    Abother tip with locotos, if you cut in slices without touching the seeds, it is less hot than if you cut in rings.
    Another interesting specie is called 'Ululica', it is aeound 1/2cm to 1cm in diameter, also black seeds and very hot.

I mixed in Fishnure Organic Fish Manure Fertilizer with my potting mix at a 4-to-1 ratio when planting in pots, and about a pound per plant in the garden. I know you arent a fan of saving your own seeds because of the potential for cross polination. A convenient or inconvenient ( depending on what you want to do) thing about pubesense is they do not produce fertile offspring when crossed with any of the domestic species. So seeds saved will either be true or wont sprout.

    peruvian rocoto you would never be able to chew it like a bell pepper, literally Peruvian rocoto you bite only in 5mm size pieces

      I've grown several varieties of Peruvian rocoto and have chewed them the same way. They are great, but nowhere near the world's hottest peppers. I grow many varieties of peppers from Peru, and love them all! 😀🌶

    Do your research! The Rocoto pepper isn't Ecuadorian

    • @7PotClub
      @7PotClub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously??? You're telling me that I need to do more research? No offense, but maybe you should cut back on your alcohol intake. 😀 Peppers don't know or care how humans divide the world into countries. Peru is not the only country where Rocoto are found. Read the Wikipedia article: "It belongs to a species of the genus Capsicum (pepper), and is known in Peru and Ecuador as rocoto..." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsicum_pubescens
      Anyway, thanks for watching and have a great day.

      @@7PotClub If you only knew how stupid that comment is, you wouldn't have made it. The first sentence of the Wiki "article" mentions nothing of Ecuador which leads me to believe it's your own personal bias which makes you think that it is. Furthermore, it explicitly says that it was "documented by Ancient Peruvians." There's literally only one mention of Ecuador and it only makes reference to what it's called, nothing of what would make it, in fact, Ecuadorian. Don't get me wrong. I love it whenever someone is able to contribute to it's prominence, but not when they also attribute to it something which is objective misinformation.

      @@7PotClub wait a minute but isn’t calling them Ecuadorian peppers also assigning borders? Also I’m speaking culturally Peruvians have rocoto peppers as a main staple of cuisine being someone who is from Peru and lived there and have been to every country in South America I can tell you no other country there has rocoto pepper as significantly in their pallate as Peruvians. Which says something about possible origination and cultivation. Technically if you want to be specific rocoto was cultivated in the Andes which envelops seven countries being Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. But being as the other countries besides Peru do not have it in their cuisine nearly as prominently it’s fair to make a connection that the staple has been primarily used by the people originating and still occupying Peru.

      I don't dispute anything you've said, but the simple fact is that this is a specific variety of Rocoto that was cultivated in Ecuador.

    So you can switch from starting in water or soil after all. 🤔
    My wife tells me you can't start from one and switch to the other.
    I'd like to switch a number of my plants from potted to hydroponics to help speed up the growing process, but we don't have our own place with all the necessary room right now.
