I really love your stairs a small suggestion. You should drill a hole from the back to the center of the core and allow a cable for a nightlight under the stairs red when you are at sea when you’re coming up the stairs you see them well when the boat is in darkness. 😊 great work.
@@TheDuracellProject I think many people take this aspect foregranted! Little do they know how meticulous work it is and finding the right music/ sounds to go along. To be honest this project wouldn't have 100k subscribers hadnt it been for Janni
You need one of those site safety style posters on the wall with "Days since cat accidentally glued into boat" and then hanging numbers below that text as a video gag that would be funny to at least 7.4 people!
18:12 Might not be a bad idea to glue short lengths of fiberglass angle pieces to support the ends of the wings against the wall. I realize their edges are firm against the wall, but just to be safe, in case you step hard on them going down in rough seas. A tiny better-safe-than-sorry addition you can do in a jiffy.
I have a wood shop and I mock up a lot. It save's me time from mistakes when you are dealing with heavy math and millions of other things to do, because as a builder / carpenter you know, "it's easier to cut off less, than glue it back on." The stairs look very good. The wings give them a good look, pleasing to the eye. When ever you are on the job and a project there is that pressure, but give yourself some slack (and some cold beer and pizza on Friday nights). My projects last 1 to 3 weeks, not 1 to 3 years. You are all doing well my friend.
Janni and Matt, another wonderful episode. Your choice and use of music is brilliant: appropriate, entertaining and unobtrusive. Your SHORT intro is much appreciated.
Matt, now that I've had a CNC in my shop for 2+ years, i can absolutely assure you that many aspects of this particular project would have been significantly expedited had you cut them, screw holes and all on a CNC. But, additional hand tool work for the mitred edges would still have been necessary. That's why I consider myself a Hybrid Plus woodworker. Thanks for sharing!
Nice job on the steps. They look great. You may want to bullnose the leading edge. Slips and falls may not hurt as much. BTW, that baby is really growing. 😊You’re both truly blessed.
Thank you for showing me the Edura Panels from Hamilton Marine. I'm putting a new deck on the pontoon boat and this stuff looks like just the ticket. All the best.

I love the attention for mental health, and I love Your millimeter tolerance. The attitude of such keeps people safe. And I hope it will do so for you.
7:00 Have you guys considered adding long wings from the top step going the extension of the doghouse all the way to the entrance? This way, when the boat is heeling, you have the comfort of wings on the floor of the doghouse as well as on the top step. Obviously, there will be a seam separating the top step wings to the ones on the floor of the doghouse, so that the stairs can be removed. Shouldn't be much of an issue to add them up now.
The stairs look fantastic! The angled shape reminds me of a Japanese Shinto Shrine. Little fun fact: In history these are dedicated to house "Kami" (divinities, spirits) venerated in the Shinto religion. They can be elements of the landscape or forces of nature. (info sourced from Wikipedia)
Love the Fela Kuti inspired music around the time the stairs were being glued together. I found myself dancing and grooving around a bit to Matt's work.

Great precision work there Matt. Looks very nice and very functional. Love the way the cat looks like it really is inspecting every join. Funny. Best wishes to you both from Australia.
Very nice job! The lines look great. I would love to see a tips and tricks episode. The box with the shop vac for mixing micro balloons and keeping silica out of the air is brilliant. I'm sure you have developed a whole bunch of useful techniques. Would love to see some o them.
These stairs are superb, a simple yet effective design and quite robust too without getting too heavy to move around, great job Matt ! Jani, your editing and storytelling skills are getting better by the week, and it's been years :D Stay safe fam' !
I like the stairs, they are a comfortable angle and have space for both giant paws and small paws, along with a modest even rise between steps. I like having hand rails either side of stairs, much safer when a boat is moving around, plunging through waves, or I'm just under the weather. Will the steps withstand someone jumping on them, it can happen! Your choice of pre laminated panels is interesting as I note that Ran Sailing have opted for pre laminated panels for their boat build. I see the inspector conducted a thorough inspection, including the necessary tail space, for those moments when being neither up nor down is required. The wings should have received an extra inspector's paw stamp, but perhaps refraining from additional comments is a mark of the inspector's professional detachment.
It’s looking good, I thought you was going to make the steps out of the MDF. As not a good material as it swells in damp conditions. Glad to see that 😂Love the video 👍👍👍
Knocking-up a rough example of _anything_ gives you the chance to live with it for a while and discover all the unforeseen flaws. The prospect of wasting best material on a prototype that gets scrapped is terrifying! There's never enough time to make any particular project a labor of love and fine art because there are always several hundred - dozen other parts hovering in the wings that need equal chunks of dedication. The dream project is one single item you can dedicate heart and soul to without any outside interference.
Nice job. I’m just wondering why there are no rounded edges on the steps (front of the steps and supports). But maybe I missed it. Your building quality is impressive!
I was really excited for a moment when I thought that the stairs would be constructed of mahogany or teak, but I’m sure that the final result will be amazing.
Thanks for all your videos. I really love the parts of your videos where you explain the "WHY" and not just the "How". BRAVO to you! Could you please tell us why so many boat builders prefer to use PET panels, as well as other types of foam core panels, when laminating your bulkheads,.. yet other builders,.. such as "tiny camper" makers use XPS panels to laminate walls and bulkheads? Thank you.
Simplicity is the key. Non slip coatings on all surfaces so no need for complicated construction. Believe me, you will be hanging on with both hands most of the time.
Matt, just want to remind you that the ropes angles to the winch bottom needs to be 9 to 11 degrees. Check the harken manual on winch fitment. Just raise the main winch in the cockpit combing about 1.5 inches (est.). Cheers
I wonder if you should put another triangle piece between the two outer ones. Just to eliminate any flex in the treads. The angles looks fun in doing 😂You make it all look so easy😂
Remember: If Air can get through Noise can also get through. Step 1 of sound insulation is airtight. Step 2 is vibration ans physical vibration of the outer walls / door. I think it would look good to have wings on the top step, and to extend that ‘profile’ beyond the step along the floor below the bench seating.
