    I was wondering how I could get my second hand mid gold riding mower to cut as high as my push mower because I have a huge back yard and it was cutting way too low. I decided to google how to do it myself and this do it yourself video saved me. It was easy and correctly one point in every way. THANKS A MILLION!

    Thanks, great video! I have the same lawnmower and recently it has started to stall out only when the mower is engaged and I turn sharp left or go over bumps. I thought it was a problem with the seat switch or wiring harness rubbing on the steering shaft but it's not. This all happened after running over a piece of metal in the yard. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks again 😀

      Joseph Allert It sounds like a loose connection but I’m not sure where to tell you to look.

    TightWadDIY. I was recently gifted a YardMachines By MTD 21 hp B&S 46 inch cut garden tractor that I have been working the kinks out of. Do all of the MTD mower decks have the same adjustments? I have Cub Cadets & A John Deere but never a MTD. I noticed that when I go to notch #2 that the deck is mowing slightly lower on the right side. Considering all of the other quirky maintenance related issues that I have resolved - Leveling the mower deck will be a breeze. Thanks for your very good video.

    I'm really enjoying your mower videos since I have the same kind of mower myself. Can you tell me WHERE the safety switch is that keeps me from mowing in reverse with the blade running? Please let me know if you can. Thanks. Love your channel.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I no longer have this mower but it s has to be right where you switch to reverse. There will be a bar that presses in the switch. You will likely have to loosen the switch and not pull the wires out.

    I made a comment to turn up your audio or voice but I very much enjoy your videos as a suggestion you might want to try getting a little mic that goes around your mouth I watch one other video a guy got that and it's like you're talking to him on the phone you could hear it very but I very much enjoy watching you do what you do so I didn't mean to come off harsh you're very very helpful

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t take it as harsh. The audio quality is pretty poor on this video. I wish they provided a way to enhance it on a posted video. I’m much better with editing now and can adjust the levels as needed. I really appreciate the constructive feedback.

    Around 1:58 what’s that “U shaped bracket” that’s in the back. I have a Bolens mtd mower and the front of the deck hangs down low. The people said it needed a bracket for the deck welded and that’s the only thing I can see that’s off on mine aside from adjustments.

    I bought a used 46" Yard Machine, and it seems like even the highest cut setting is way too low. Is there a good way to raise the overall height, not just the tilt?

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there is. Do you know what type of grass you have?

    • @JimCalkins
      @JimCalkins 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TightWadRepairs no, but thanks anyway. I found my tires were low, and I'll be checking the tilt with the help of your video.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jim Calkins you can take a plug of your grass to your local extension agent or ask a landscaper what type of grass you have. You can then look up the optimal cut height for it. You may find you are cutting your grass too high anyway. I cut my Bermuda on level 2 or 3 of 7.

  • @pontiachotshot
    @pontiachotshot 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whats the best type of blade for grass bagging on these mowers ? One that you have with serrated edges ? Or a regular blade ?

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +pontiachotshot I did not have a bagger on this particular mower. I wouldn't suggest using a mulching blade because mulching blades are meant to throw the grass back into the blade for a second cut instead of discharging it. I would use a traditional blade without a high lift curve because it would throw the clippings out with more force.

      +TightWadRepairs will this help even if you own a husqvarna tractor?

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dylan Chalmers The same concepts apply to all lawn tractors but the adjustment instruments may be slightly different. They typically have an adjustment in the front and on the side opposite the chute.

    • @MrDyson01
      @MrDyson01 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TightWadRepairs i might have to adjust it since i didn't take the deck off and it got hung up on the rocks while doing a small landscaping project with mulch

    My cutter belt is smoking. Just started. Some type of friction. Is there a rider pully and how to fix it? This is on a Bolens.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Barry Wind I would try to spin each pulley by hand while the mower is turned off. If any of them will not spin, you have found your issue.

    hi I just got a CENTRAL PARK (MTD) riding mower probably 20 to 25 years old. Have been attempting to level the cut but for the life of me I can not find the leveling mechanism. Have been trying to adjust a small hook type thing with cotter pin and bolt but not sure if it is where I need to be. HELP PLEASE!!!

    Good video, but you missed an important step. After inflating the tyres to the correct pressure, measure the height of the top of the rims. I did this and discovered one rear wheel rim was 7mm lower than the other! This put a bad pitch or angle in the plane of my mower deck. Reducing the inflation pressure of the higher wheel rim tyre by 1.5 psi brought the rims and the axle level, which is the intent of the inflation step, but not the actual situation in practice. Lawn tractor / ride-on mower tyres aren't manufactured to the same tolerances as car tyres so have more variation in inflated diameter / height.

    Have a question . I am having trouble with the pto switch .. When I start it with the blades off I have to move the lever to make sure it rest on the pto switch it's under the right side of the fender . Then it will start its like the lever is lose ... Also when I want to go backwards it with the blades on it will turn off the motor . So I turn off the blades but the still wants to turn off till I move the pto lever to rest on the switch . Can I just zip tie it down so I will but have this issue ?

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ram M457 Technically it will work if the switch is pressed and all the time. I can’t say that I recommended but you could find a way to permanently push the switch down.

    • @ram457moreno
      @ram457moreno 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TightWadRepairs ok thank you I will just zip tie that switch . I know it's for safety but it's sure not working the way it should . I will try to find another lever since its lose and not resting on the switch .

    Bought a used 42 inch cut rider ( my first ever ) not long ago and had a heck of a time getting the deck level. First time I mowed it cut low on my left and high on my right. Before I mowed today, I adjusted the hex nut until that side of the deck was at its highest position. It still cut high on that side of the deck so I moved the anti scalping wheel on the left to a lower position. Cutting pretty good now. Next time I mow though, I'm going to need to lower the hex nut a notch or two. Trial & Error, I suppose. I mean, it's cutting good, but my OCD gets the best of me every time :P

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to make sure it's correct, you need to park on a level surface and measure from the tip of the blade to the ground.

  • @dickgooding8588
    @dickgooding8588 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the same steps used to level a 3 blade mower deck. I am leaving a high spot in each round.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dick Gooding It is the same process but if you’re leaving a strip of grass more likely that you need to replace your blades.
