First time I saw a F-22 was shortly after I moved to Anchorage. I was at a red light and looked up to ID the fighter over head. It started a to bank to the left, but did that tactical turn. The nose stayed in place as the tail just slid into place, then resumed flight in the new direction. My jaw dropped and had no problem figuring out what it was 😂
I have the Su-57 and this F-22 maneuvers side by side on my screen, playing each for the similar maneuvers (different flight show maneuvers... So not directly comparable) and still the F-22 looks janky... It is little like a americans placing a V8 to the small car and it doesn't anymore really obey the controls but flies more like a on rails. Plenty of power for the size, but not fluid and lose the energy when you would need it, so it is required to be generated back by easing the maneuvers to get going. Like the take-off, it was tail heavy to get off, requiring to raise front wheel for long period to get it off the ground. And then required to fly long at straight to get speed and then do the 80 degree raise upwards, only to be slow to react negative pitch command (while did it nicely). In the Su-57 the maneuvers are controlled, smooth and it is like watching a ballet. I still consider the Su-27 airshow in Paris 1989 as best there is. th-cam.com/video/c_lzjVkVm-U/w-d-xo.html Demonstrating under 13 seconds 360 degree sustained turn and performing verticals straight from slow speeds and then after that the cobras and all. There is no need to acquire speed, or try to make over controlled looking jinks that is like there isn't full authority like with F-22 has the case. Oh, and the cobra maneuver is not about raising a nose. It is about dropping the tail. And altitude shouldn't raise while performing it, but maintain the same altitude when entering and exiting it. This is nicely demonstrated in the some other videos where it really is "I hit the brakes and he fly by", by having in a formation flight the lead pull cobra, exit it and now he is flying 500 meters behind back at the same speed. There is no speed to save the passing fighter as the Su-27 already has the lock on the fighter front. F-22 is truly amazing, but in western parameters.
Something to keep in mind is that it’s not “western parameters,” it’s that the Raptor demo is only allowed to show a fraction of its capabilities. If it were allowed to show everything it’s capable of, we’d be having a totally different conversation.
I was thinking the same, Maverick move, "I hit the brakes and he fly by" both airframes are good-looking, the SU57 and the F22 (but the last one is older).
The T-50 was wayyyy better, and not by a small margin It seems to pick up speed faster, climb faster, turn better and have more control in low speed maneuvers. The other thing id like to say is, If its pointing that nose at you and its not friendly, the nozzle configuration hardly matters
The F-22 seemed to spend a lot of time in burner compaed to the SU. The 22 certainly has power in spades but the dynamic perf is blown away by the T-50, and Sukhoi has just shown an SU-57 with new non-circular stealth exhausts with even more impressive vectoring modes.
The first time I saw an F-22 at an airshow around 18 years ago was an experience, it flew like nothing I'd ever seen before. But that was a long time ago and the bar has been raised a lot since those days. We now have Su-35 and Su-57 prototypes regularly doing stunts at airshows which you won't see any NATO plane do. You're just not going to see anything in a Western airshow like the Sukhoi demos. th-cam.com/video/uNetxc3CS5I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=F3vosH--7aw1NNcj
In the case of the Raptor demo, keep in mind they aren’t allowed to show all its capabilities, only a fraction of what it can do. If it were allowed to do everything it’s able do we’d be having a completely different conversation.

You mentioned the ripples in the after burners...... Just some knowledge for you..... Each ripple you see in after burner is a stage of combustion in the engine. I'm not sure how many the f22 has but the f15e had 7 or 8 if I remember right.
I question whether he is just showing off his burners vs that's the energy needed for the profile. Saw both F-22 and CF-18 twilight shows at Abbotsford airshow a number of years back. What struck me was the Hornet in blower on the downhill not that high above the ground and staying in burner as he flattened out at the bottom. Very counterintuitive to think burner while pointed almost straight down. The Raptor's need for burner was a little more obvious during its insane manoeuvres, but it too was in AB on the downhill a number of times.
He's only in burner to show it off. The pilot did an interview on the fighter pilot podcast. He mentions that he has to be careful because he can go super sonic while the engines are basically in idle.

In the Su-57 the maneuvers are controlled, smooth and it is like watching a ballet.
I still consider the Su-27 airshow in Paris 1989 as best there is. th-cam.com/video/c_lzjVkVm-U/w-d-xo.html
Demonstrating under 13 seconds 360 degree sustained turn and performing verticals straight from slow speeds and then after that the cobras and all.
Yes its great, Russia is such a great country. With their communist beliefs, they also care for their people....
I love the F22 and I love Freddie Mercury. I didn’t think about him until you mentioned him and yes you do look like him for umpteenth time!!
That golden shot got me bricked up
Same!
Imagine how The Metallic Raptor would've looked🤯😭
This Video has some serious 80s Tom Cruise vibes. All it needs is some Loggins and we good
The first time I saw an F-22 at an airshow around 18 years ago was an experience, it flew like nothing I'd ever seen before.
Yeah including smashing into the ground and killing many people - USAF don't do that.
In the case of the Raptor demo, keep in mind they aren’t allowed to show all its capabilities, only a fraction of what it can do. If it were allowed to do everything it’s able do we’d be having a completely different conversation.

actually it does, but there is 0 reason to do so, because its mostly useless, it also does the cobra maneuver multiple times just fine by definition that is, which is something the f15 technically did decades prior albeit in a different fashion.
The 57 struggles to do anything different than any other aircraft that's why it was made fun of by most people, the vertical climb is one of the only things it's got that the f15 and f22 are able to do, pretty sure some of europes fighters can as well, since its really about thrust to weight ratio.
I dont know if you dmoking vook but the f22 does not move like the su57. The f22 can move and its awesome, but its limited to s 2d thrust vectoring but the su57 i got to say wins in manuvering 100%@yulfine1688

@vk_o2540 no not really.. I think most people in aviation or who understand tactics and advantages and disadvantages recognize the issues.
In dog fighting you can consider it a high risk reward maneuver that that a very skilled pilot could use in a 1v1 or maybe 1v2.
But not only is that risk not usually worth it, any good pilot you're against will very quickly end you..
Lastly engagements are all bvr just about, so it's sort of useless today and has no advantage against missiles either ..
@yulfine1688 the argument is not if its useful, rather the statement is it doesn't dance like the su57 which i would and most none biased people would agree is correct. But on your point we would have to see it in action and in its practical use to make that absolute judgment

OOOO I saw smoke from the raptor!!! author: American pilots presenting a review of the Su-57's performance at an air show, when they saw the smoke, everyone said that the Russians simply have bad technology!!! so why does the F-22 also have smoke during aerobatic maneuvers? Maybe in the case of American technologies this means super high quality???
Maybe it’s customary to fly the F-22 with dirty engines?
😂😂😂 double standards is what the US is all about! Nobody buys this shit anymore! That’s why they are doomed!
The F-22 produces FAR less smoke than the SU-57. Not only that but it’s 20 years old and still produces less. The Felon is much newer on the other hand and looks like an airliner from the 50s and 60s which produced a ton of exhaust smoke
@@brianmola711 post a link where the Su-57 emits tons of smoke? In Iraq, the Abrams was destroyed by Soviet machine gun fire. You mentioned the ripples in the after burners...... Just some knowledge for you..... Each ripple you see in after burner is a stage of combustion in the engine. I'm not sure how many the f22 has but the f15e had 7 or 8 if I remember right.
Is there any data on how much time is needed to prepare an aircraft for a combat flight? F22 and Su-57?
@maxafterburner So, is it now impossible for these 5th generation planes to get into a flat spin and I guess stall like in Top Gun and the F14 Tomcat?

I wish we could get something called "the X airshow" an airshow dedicated to prototype planes that never made production like the YF-23 for example
We never get the F-22 here in Arizona anymore at the Luke Airshow. Yuma MCAS has the F-22 show need to get over there in March. I feel like the F-22 is on it's way out ill wish I had seen one fly at an airshow one last time. I remember watching the F-14 Tomcat demo team wasn't all that long after that they were gone.
Honestly, if you love airshows ,AirVenture at Oshkosh's Experimental Aviation Association is hard to beat. It isn't just a few airplanes flying around. It is a week of air shows, demonstrations, acrobatics and, with declassified aircraft, tours. It is also the world's largest convention of FAA, ATC, and other aviation organizations. The F-22 has been a fairly regular attendee for about a decade, The F-22 arrival, with two Raptors performing touch-and-go maneuvers a few days prior was pretty awesome. Only the lighting made this performance better. Only problem with AirVenture is that the air space restrictions limit larger performances, so the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds can't perform there.
