I just looked up the manufacturing date on my Remington 870 express magnum, I could not remember when I bought it. It turns out I bought it in Aug. of 1985. I remember things were so very different then. A good friend to this day wanted me to go Turkey hunting for my first time, so I went to the local Kmart store, I believe they are out of business now, all of the Kmart stores? I went in, filled out the paper work there, and after paying $150.00 walked out the front door with my new Remington shotgun! No background check, no children buying guns, and causing families grief. Where are those wonderful days of sense, and responsibility? Have always loved this rifle, and it is locked up in a second floor coat closet converted into a Gun, and hunting accessories safe. You have a great Holiday, and a Happy New Year.
Those were the days, Bob. I sure do miss those days and I miss K-Mart of ole. In the later years before K-Mart went out of business they had pretty much become anti-second Amendment. Blame that on Rosie O'Donald as being their spokesperson. I remember the days of going to Heck's Department store, that is where I got my first shotgun when I was 13 years old. My mom went there and bought it for me. That has been 50 years ago now. Shells were plentiful, rifle shells were plentiful and around here in WV, department stores like that knew that most men here were hunters and carried a lot of hunting stuff, sometimes year-round. Mine is in the gun cabinet and take it out every turkey season and hunt with it. My 870 Wingmaster and sometimes the 1100 come out to go and do some squirrel hunting. Love the older Remingtons and I know the 870 Express was one of the new ones, but now it is considered an older Remington, especially the years you and I bought them. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Thanks for bringing back memories of the older and better days my friend. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
It is hard to be an 870 for sure!! We think they are absolutely the best shotguns on the market, well at least the older ones since that is all we have. Why buy a new one when the old one just keeps going, like a Timex watch! Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Joshua, I think our season should come in earlier. Usually by mid-April when it opens a lot of the good activity is about over. A lot of other states open late March or first part of April. Also, we don't get to hunt all day here in WV like they do in other states. We have to be out of the woods by 1PM. Just don't understand that. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
When I first started hunting with a single shot Harrington and Richards Topper 12 gauge, I knew I wanted and would someday have an 870. The actions on them shotguns are so smooth. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Thanks, John. Well, you know me I have to keep the videos coming, even in the off season. Yes, I am, and my son is die hard Remington guys. I have an 870 Wingmaster Magnum with the high gloss walnut wood and deep dark bluing. I also have another 870 Wingmaster with a rifled slug barrel on it. Then there is the Remington 1100 and of course all of these are in 12 gauge. Pretty much mine are all safe queens as well, except for the Express and the 700 BDL. The 700 will become a safe queen when I harvest a deer with it. Thanks for watching and commenting, John. Juddie - J & J TOA

Looks like the perfect shotgun to me. I don’t know why but my whole life I’ve loved the wood furniture on a shotgun. I can’t stand the black synthetic stock ones. I think it’s because I’m born and raised in the south and my dad got a mossberg 500 wingmaster. Seen that shotgun my whole life as well as my blood families hunting shotguns. I’m in Mississippi I’ve seen $1000 shotguns propped up on the wall in the living room like it’s nothing, it was always wood furniture I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shotgun without wood in person before, maybe once or twice but I don’t care to remember lol
Never like synthetic stocks myself, I prefer wood stocks. But one year I got a Remington Model 700 in 30-06 and was really glad I got it. I was deer hunting one year with it and got a nice 5 point buck. I had to drag that buck down a deep hollow. While dragging the deer down the hollow, which was a drain to a creek full of rocks, I tripped and fell on my back several times. I had the rifle on my back and it saved me from getting really hurt. If that would have been a wood stock, I believe it would have broke the stock. Even if it didn't break the stock, it would have been scared and dented really bad. The synthetic took a beating and still look decent. But again, I prefer wood stocks of anything else. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
I have a 870 Express Super Magnum 3.5" & i have one of the older Primos Turkey choke & i wouldn't give that choke for ANYTHING that ive ever ran across... it will hold at 8/9" pattern at 45/50 yards & i absolutely love it
That is awesome!! The great thing is you got the combination that works! Every choke tube is different. My 870 Express I had the Remington extra full on it until I got the Jeb's Choke. I need to do a comparison to see if the Jeb's is any better than my Remington extra full. That is the one thing I haven't done. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Well, I didn't grow up on them, but when I got into hunting, my in-laws hunted with the 870's and the Model 1100's. That is what got me into wanting to own Remingtons. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Thanks, Jason! Yes, only 2 months and 1 day. Got to get things ready and not wait to the last minute. Don't want a repeat of last year when I got to the woods with everything I needed, except my shotgun!! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
I love my Remington 870 Express Magnum. Had to change out the stock because the wood became brittle and cracked with age. I've had it since I was 22. Im 56 now. Never jammed on me.
They are awesome shotguns for sure, and the Express was/is very affordable. I don't know how long it took before I actually could afford a 870 Wingmaster, but the 870 Express holds a special place. I have used it to rabbit hunt back in the day, squirrel hunt and turkey hunt. If all you had to do was replace the stock, not bad at all!! I bought mine back in the mid-80's and here it is 2024 and it is still rocking. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
The Express starts as the same solid block of steel as the Police or Wingmaster. Only the finer details make a difference. At their core, they’re all the same gun. If you’re willing to put in the work and make a few upgrades, the Express can be made about as good as any of the higher end models.
Yes, they are the same shotgun. The Express has the parkerized finish where as the Wingmaster has the blued finish and the wood of course is different, but they are the same. Love my Express and it is my go to gun most of the time for turkey hunting and some for squirrel hunting. Sometimes I will pull out the Wingmaster or even the 1100 to hunt squirrels when we go hunting for them. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
I believe you are correct about the 870 Express being the first to use the REM choke system, I have a Remington Sportsman 12 Pump that was made in July of 1985 and it still has a fixed modified choke. Believe the sportsman's were made up until 1986 or even early 1987 and we're discontinued when the Express came out.
I honestly believe the 870 Express was the first to come out with the REM choke system in the Remington line of shotguns. Up until then I never saw any Remington shotguns, pump or semi-auto, with a choke tube. The older Remington shotguns are awesome, I think at one time, I would have to go back through my journal to see, I had a Remington Sportsman. But my heart was always set on getting a 870 Wingmaster, even after getting the Express I still wanted the Wingmaster. Finally I was able to get one, then I got the 870 Wingmaster slug shotgun. We just love the older Remington's. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Juddie, you are SPOT ON with that price $189.99 exactly what I paid for mine back in 1990, I believe. Although, it was stolen out if my truck at work in Charlotte in 2005 only to be recovered two weeks later by the police. I kept up with that gun for 4 years, property control needed to keep it for physical evidence against the guy whose case was moved to the federal docket. Only to be issued a "different" claim number in 2009 and it eventually slipped through the cracks and I was told it went into the melting pot at Charlotte plastics. I was paid for it but that gun had a lot of sentimental value to me. I've never believed it was destroyed... Your Remington 870 express is exactly what mine looked like.
Man, I hate to hear what happened to yours!!! That is awful! The 870 Express was the first new shotgun I ever bought. I hunted squirrels for years with it and when I started turkey hunting, I just bought the extra full. The Express is a versatile shotgun with all the choke tubes for it. Again, sorry about what happened to yours. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
@@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures Thanks Juddie, when it was stolen I had just put a slug barrel on it and had killed one hog and my mom had bought me mossy oak synthetic stock and forearm so I still have the original matte finish barrel and furniture. If I ever would run across an action, I would definitely buy it, then I'd have a complete gun again, lol. I'm sorry, I know, I like to talk😆 Take care and God Bless you brother. 🙏
@@silvergrizzly316 hey no problem!! I have been told I like to talk a lot. Honestly, I believe I do, especially when it comes to hunting and firearms. LOL
Remington guns are nice. I use my dad's old stevens 12ga single shot sense he passed away. I miss the good ole days of anglers roost. I'm not sure but I think it burnt down 2 times if I remember correctly. Great video stay safe
Nothing wrong with the Stevens 12 gauge. You are taking your dad with you when you take that shotgun out. Yes, Anglers Roost burnt twice. The first time they rebuilt, the second time is when they moved down to the old Heck’s building. I hated seeing them go out of business. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Yep bud the oh 870 was the gun I got my first turkey with back In 1989 , got it used at a gun store, looked like a new one for 125 dollars, have a good Bud 👍
The 870’s are awesome and have been proven in the field, even used in Vietnam war. A co-worker I use to work with that is a Vietnam vet told me that was his gun of choice when he was there. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
What else would it be, Matt??? LOL Just like trucks, everyone has their favorite, me a Ford F-150, some people a Chevy, and some a Dodge. We are only 2 months and 1 day away, got to get things ready. I don't want a repeat of last year when I made it all the way to the woods and had everything except my shotgun!! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Man I have several 870’s including the wingmaster magnum which I got my first turkey with back In the day!! I also have the supermag that I’ve hunted with for several years for turkey it’s what I’m currently using!! Love these videos!! Love the guns we have very similar taste in guns for sure.. I also have the 870 express in a 20 gauge.. by the way 870 is what I took my first turkey, duck, deer, and dove, quail with also. My first squirrel was with a single barrel Steven’s 410.. enjoying all the videos thanks for sharing..
Blue Boy, those 870's are hard to beat. I also have an 870 Wingmaster Magnum, then I have an 870 Wingmaster slug shotgun. Not sure if it was original slug shotgun or an 870 that someone put a slug barrel on. The slug 870 was a gift that I received. The 870 Express was my first 870 and I acquired the other two later. I have harvested several squirrels over the years with the Express and then the gobbler a few years ago. My very first shotgun that I harvested a squirrel with was an old Harrington and Richards Topper 12 gauge single shot. That shotgun would kick like a mule!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
That is one shotgun I have never owned and I don't have a clue as to why I haven't. Brother I feel for you with the atvs running up and down the road. We had to put up with that for years and finally the boy grew up enough to quiet down some. Best of luck come April Juddie!!👍
Rick, they are nice. When I bought this one, one of the reasons I bought it was I knew I couldn't afford a 870 Wingmaster at the time. Again, it isn't nothing more than an 870 Wingmaster without the deep dark bluing and the high gloss walnut stock. If it isn't this kid with is racing quad (I know I said side by side), it is all his hound dogs barking all night long. Use to be a quite neighborhood around here. Good luck to you during turkey season if your going out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Again, it isn't nothing more than an 870 Wingmaster without the deep dark bluing and the high gloss walnut stock. @@bkbowhunter1 from 1990 to 1995 I worked for Harrah Associates, an engineering consulting firm. We did mining permits to submit to the office I work at now. My bosses name was Larry Harrah, he owned the business.
They are absolutely nice guns! I have a 1100 and 3 - 870’s as well. One 870 is the 870 Express, then I have the 870 Wingmaster and the last one is the 870 Deerslayer. All in 12 gauge. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
That is a nice gun and some nice turkey calls and that is awesome and I killed my first turkey a few years back and well but mine was in the fall of the year and that was the only turkey ever killed and I was actually out squirrel hunting and I knew it was turkey season as well that turkey come by that evening and I wasn't sure if you can hunt all day or if you had to be out by 1 right in the spring but you do not have to come out of the woods that was way in the fall of the year you can hunt all day long and I killed my first turkey 🦃 by accident just being in the right place at the right time
Thanks, Josh. Yep, you can hunt turkeys in the fall, and in the fall it is either sex, it is just spring when you can only hunt gobblers and it is only spring that you have to be out of the woods by 1 PM. Also, you have to check the regs yearly, to make sure you can hunt turkeys in the fall. Fayette County was closed for years and years to fall turkey hunting and just a few years ago the DNR opened it. But the DNR look at the harvest records from the spring to determine whether to have a fall season or not. Don't know what it is like in other counties on the decision whether to have a fall season or not. It seems like some counties always has a fall turkey season, but I do remember the years that Fayette County never had a fall season. In fact, one time I talked to a DNR officer at a garage one time, I asked him if there would ever be a fall season. He told me that Fayette County would never see a fall season. Well, it happened, so I guess he isn't a happy person. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
Hey, with all due respect, it’s not the same as a Remington 870 Wingmaster from the 1970s and earlier they were built better back then the quality control at Remington has gone to hell in a handbasket every Remington 870 express I’ve shot I didn’t enjoy the experience😊
JP, you are correct, but it was the average man's best way to get an 870 Remington. Nothing beats the original and yes those older Remingtons was something to be proud of. The company back then took pride in their product and workmanship back then. Not saying they didn't after then, but there were a lot of things on the newer made ones that just wasn't up to par with the older ones. Now, this one that I have has never failed me, it has been an awesome shotgun. But after some years, I was able to purchase a true 870 Wingmaster and I like it so well, it has to be a perfect day before I will take it out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
To say that the 870 has stood the test of time is an understatement! A ton of game has fallen to that shotgun! Police forces and military have used them and Mossbergs for 5 decades! I like the choke tube too! It’s nice to have tubes I don’t have to look for that stupid wrench every time I want to change it!😊 Good video buddy ! I like these “my favorites “ videos!👍
Thanks, Mike!! Oh, I love my 870's, that is why I have three of them. I have this 870 Express, I also have the Wingmaster and then another Wingmaster with a rifled slug barrel, all in 12 gauge. These shotguns are built rock solid. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA
@@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures I have a fella with a Wingmaster who wants to trade for my 870 tactical. I might take him up on it! I’m not much into the tacti-cool stuff. I have a couple of ARs that I get the family out a couple times a year as a refresher course. But then they go back into the strategically placed areas until either the next time we wipe the dust and cobwebs off, or the worst case scenario occurs. I pray it never does! Have a good one Juddie!
@@Hunting4Hookers I have never been much into the tactical stuff. I have my 3 AR's, an SKS and the AK47 that I built. The SKS isn't original, it has a plastic stock on it almost looks like an AR, the AK is all original wood. There is a video in the archives, can't remember what year I posted it, it might be about 11 years ago, about the AK, it is just still photos of the build. I have hunted with the AR's, taken a 6 point with the 223 AR which is an old A2 configuration, and then my 300 Blackout which is an M4 configuration I took a 6 point in 2017. Since then they set in the safe except for when we want to have fun on a range with them.
I was looking for an 870 a few years ago. Academy had the 870 tactical on sale, so I bought one and put a bunch of tactical stuff on it for home defense! I shot it about 5 times and now looking to trade it for a straight up 870. Should have gotten it to begin with! Great video buddy!
Thanks, Mike. When I first started hunting I had an old Harrington & Richards Topper 12 gauge, and then after finishing school and had a job I bought a Mossberg 500. After seeing my first Wingmaster, I knew I wanted one. But I was married had started my family and was trying to make ends meet. I was able to finally my an 870, but I had to settle for the Express, the working mans 870. Works just as good as the Wingmaster just not the fancy finished walnut stock and deep dark bluing. Taken many squirrels with that Express and even some rabbits. After several years and a few career changes, I was at the point I could get a Wingmaster. Well not a new one, but one that was in like new condition, and of course from a pawn shop. Just keep your eyes open at those pawn shops!! Just remember, it seems right now there is a mad rush for the older Remingtons and when they show up at a pawn shop, they are not there long. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Thanks Juddie, when it was stolen I had just put a slug barrel on it and had killed one hog and my mom had bought me mossy oak synthetic stock and forearm so I still have the original matte finish barrel and furniture.
I hope to seeing you filming in the woods when you are turkey hunting that's going to be awesome if you do
If we are hunting Josh, we will be filming. Just stay tuned.
Hard to believe it’s another Remington 😂😂😂. Just kidding Juddie…. I do like the 870s. Looking forward to seeing some run and gun call action!!!

870 express the one gun I kick myself for not buying one. I loved anglers roost growing up. We still got a few weeks small game but my mind is on 🦃🦃🦃
Brian, they are nice. When I bought this one, one of the reasons I bought it was I knew I couldn't afford a 870 Wingmaster at the time. Again, it isn't nothing more than an 870 Wingmaster without the deep dark bluing and the high gloss walnut stock. I really miss Angler's Roost, I was a regular there during the early 90's when I worked in Summersville. I would go there on my lunch hour every day. I hear you about the turkeys!! All I own is Remington shotguns. I have my dads old 1100 and I own 3 870's. They are just good guns, no way else to put it.
It’s nice to have tubes I don’t have to look for that stupid wrench every time I want to change it!😊
Good video buddy !
@@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures The 300 Black interests me quite a bit!
I should have gotten 1 of my ARs in 300 BO.
Have a great day Juddie!
