Thanks, Steve. The activity is starting to pick up around here. Hopefully this next weekend, the 16th and 17th, should be really good. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
It was just great being there. No better place I would want to be. Got to see God's handy work in the woods, saw some wildlife, heard the birds singing. Seeing deer is just another awesome part of being there. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
It sure was, Matt. I know Jerod's head was spinning with the activity he was having. Absolutely, Matt, hunt the way you want to hunt. Don't worry about how others will see it. It is you who bought your license, rifle, bow, muzzleloader, ammo, arrows, clothing, etc so it is your choice on how to hunt, when and where to hunt and what you want to take. It is about getting out there and enjoying yourself and not trying to please anyone but yourself. Good luck to you this season, and I hear your going back to Rondy's, good luck down there. Thank you for watching and commenting. Juddie
Newman, it is still early, and we have plenty of time. Since we already bought our extra rifle tag for camp, we really don't want to waste that tag, unless what I have just recently seen on my camera shows up! Then I will let an arrow fly. That is what is nice about hunting, it is your choice on what you want to shoot or let pass. Newman, we appreciate you brother for watching and commenting. Juddie
We love "Camp Charlie", and we are so looking forward to heading back up there. That week is so relaxing, and I know a lot of people wonder why I say that. Up there we have no cell service, so not getting dinged every 15 minutes or so from emails, text messages, etc. You are in God's country, and up there the only civilized noise you may hear is when the fighter jets or regular passenger jets fly overhead. As I have told Jerod that when it came to the point I couldn't hunt, I would still go to camp. He would have a good breakfast when he got up to go out, and when he got back there would be a good dinner waiting for him. Appreciate you watching and commenting, good luck to you this hunting season. Juddie
I enjoy watching your channel and you are right how thangs sure has changed hunting I'm 37 but I came remember when dad got me hunting in the 90s when I was 8 dad started me but I can remember we use get together hang out with neibors everyone would come look at each others deer and going of to Jerry Stouts sporting goods store the first day gun season to check deer in everyone be there eating having coffee hanging out talking it was so fun people congratulating you and listen to each of our hunting stories thangs are so different now days people just don't get together any more that's why I enjoy camp charlie so much reminds me of the good old days dad and us all use to have
Appreciate that, Brian. Yea, I sure miss those days!! By the time I started Jerod hunting, those days were just about gone. The old camps we used to see going up towards the mountains, some guy even camped in canvas wall tents. You could walk into their camp, and you were treated like one of the family. Set down at the campfire and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and tell tales of the hunts. Give a strong handshake and then head off to your camp. Those times people didn't care if it was a 6-inch spike or a 8 pointer, you got a deer and you were part of the club of hunters. You are right, people just don't get together like that anymore, the game checking stations of old are gone now with digital check-ins, so you don't have to stop at the old mom and pop store to check them in. Internet and social media have changed hunting, sometimes I think for the worse. That is one reason we like to share Camp Charlie, trying to keep some of the old traditions alive. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Juddie
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures yes sir them days are gone we use do same thang hang out of at Jerry Stouts sporting goods store eat have coffee people be gathered in parking lot to look at everyone deer as they came in and talk congratulate you and wish you luck he sold it now McFly's outdoors is there I sure miss them days didn't have trail cameras back then I thank it was always more funner not knowing what kind bucks was in area more of a surprise and we didn't feed them either hunted of acorns natural travel areas
@@BrianBlake-oz4ru oh, yea sometimes I wish I didn't have a trail camera. My son, Jerod, introduced me to the trail cameras. Up on the mountain in the National Forest where we hunt, there has been times we left because we weren't seeing deer or much sign. We started using them up there just to see if they were there. There is a problem with coyotes here. Well, now we know just because the first three days we haven't seen any deer doesn't mean their not there. Now as for feeding, we do that on our lease back here at home for bow hunting, but up in the National Forest where we rifle hunt for the week, baiting is illegal. So, up there it is find the trails, the rub lines, the scrapes and the producing acorn trees. Back to the old ways.
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures yeah that's how I would rather hunt my old days of hunting use see deer running all over first day all day long never no what was going come buy people gather up make deer drives and have deer moving now people go set at there spot over feeder don't see anything go back out don't move the deer as much I sure miss the old days and ways of hunting in like you social media and technology has sure changed the ways of hunting
Great video guys. Saw small bucks cruising all week this past week. Saw one decent 8 point that had a doe. Most of them were around 2 o'clock, even when it was 70° Definitely time to be in the woods and ready at anytime.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video, Nick. It’s definitely good to see deer on the move this time of year. You just never know when one is going to come from around the hill or cross that saddle out in front of you. This weekend should be a good time, well anytime right now should be the time to be in the woods. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Juddie, fantastic video! Just like before, the scenes of you driving through the night always build anticipation for the exciting moments that come with "daybreak." The only constant is change, and the past is gone forever. Here's to hunters always finding joy in the hunt!
Thank you very much. I am glad you like that drive in to our hunting area in the early morning hours before sunrise. Yes, you are right, the only constant in the universe is change!! We so appreciate you watching and commenting on the channel. You guys do "keep listening to hunters", and we appreciate that. Juddie
Great job that’s a long day in the stand but well worth it,isn’t funny how when you least expect a deer to come out they do that’s hunting. It was a good day in the woods here also. Thank you for sharing your day with us God Bless and good luck to everyone out there be safe ,take the trophy that you want.
Thanks, Jr. Yep, Jerod was kept busy with the activity around his stand. You are right, when you least expect it a deer shows up. Gets the old blood pumping for sure. It was an awesome day to be in the woods, nowhere else I would want to be. Good luck to you this season, and thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
We really don't go in for all those fads. It may work, but it is just some other gimmick for an industry to get your hard earned money. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks, Randy, and to you as well. The activity is starting to ramp up more and more. Was out yesterday and saw several deer. Heck, I walked into Jerod's stand and he had to wave me off because there was a doe bedded down between me and him. I just dropped to my knees near a tree and stayed there until finally she left. Thanks for watching and commenting, Randy. Juddie
Thanks, Dan, I'm with you, I'd rather be hunting than working anytime!! So far it has been a slow start with movement around our stands, but it is picking up. We have about 2 weeks a few days before we head to the mountain. Can't wait. Good luck to you and the guys! Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Always makes a better day when you see something long hunting can be tuff. Im done for a few weeks had to get a stent put in yesterday 11-12 hopping to be back out by gun season
Brian, I didn't know you were having issues. Sucks getting old!! I had two stents back in 2004. Hope you heal up quick, and you should be able to hit the woods gun season. You might have to get someone to drag for you if you get one of those monster bucks. Take care of yourself bud!! Thanks for watching and commenting, and we will be remembering you in prayer. Juddie
Michael, both Jerod and I bought our extra rifle tags for buck season coming up here in 2 weeks. When we are at deer camp, if one of us gets one, we don't want the other hunting alone the next day, so that is why we have the extra rifle tag. So, with that being said, during bow season, we are being picky when it comes to hunting. We had discussed that we were only going to take a mature doe during bow season. We didn't buy any extra bow tags since they reduced the buck limit from 3 to 2 for this year. So, when we take a deer with the bow we are done for the season. Now, back to the buck in this video, it was spike, and what we had decided was that it would have to be a big buck, our choice, before we would shoot it. Because once we took it, then the extra rifle tag we bought is money thrown away because it could be used during rifle season. Again, a 2-buck limit. That is why I said back in a video I did in April 2023 about the buck limit, we lost a season when they went from the 3-buck limit to a 2-buck limit. Now we have to be picky when it comes to taking a buck. We like to hunt all three seasons, bow, rifle, and muzzleloader. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie
Big Al has not hunted with us since the end of rifle season of 2022. He is fine, living at home with his mom, he has a job and is working. He sold his Bowtech Zion, and his ladder stands and feeder. Last time I heard anything about him, he had two torn rotator cuffs and that was his reason for selling his bow equipment and stands.
Well put juddy, I am about your age and remember what you were talking about with shooting a small buck or even a doe, everyone would stop in camp to see it and congratulate you. I still hunt like you. It's our choice. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
@@wisconsinjeff1602 thanks, Jeff. I sure miss those old days. Camps were so much more fun and everyone was so nice, friendly and hospitable. That is why Jerod and I try to hold to the old days of deer camp as much as we can. Thank you for watching and commenting. Good luck to you this season if you’re hunting. Juddie
Great video! Juddie we love deer venison and I’ve been fortunate to have venison in my freezer every year!! Like you said it’s the hunters choice of what they take!! I’m proud of every hunter that hunts Legally ethically and that harvest deer no matter the size!!! Looks like y’all’s hunting is picking up for sure!! Look forward to upcoming videos!!! Good luck!!!
Thanks, Todd. Agree with everything you said. That is one reason, especially doing bow season and even rifle season, we may or may not get that kill shot on video. We are ethical and when it comes to making that ethical shot on our game or trying to get it on video, well we are going to choose to make the ethical shot. Yep, the activity is really starting to pick up. Everyone is talking that they are seeing does being pushed, and of course starting to see dead deer along the highways. Good luck to you, we are just weeks away from deer camp. We are so looking forward to it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Great day to be in tree brothers! I agree 100 percent hunters choice!! I am so tired of the negativity in the hunting community. I am also glad you show how you utilize feeders. I still get crap from people that say I would never hunt over bait. 1. It's my property. 2. It's legal. 3. I do not have the soil for food plots. 4. I enjoy putting cameras on them and supplementing the deer's health. 5. I work hard for my money and I feed year round to help the animals. Good luck the rest of the season. Dad says thank you for the comments about his buck!
Yes, it was, John. No better place to be. John, I am so tired of the negativity. It sure isn't the hunting community I knew 30 or 40 years ago. Again, I feel that a lot of this is still from the brain washing of the Outdoor Channel on the younger hunters, and those who didn't grow up around hunting and started hunting on their own. Well, those types of people who say they would never hunt over bait, do they not hunt around white oaks, red oaks, etc. Do they not hunt the edge of fields where deer go out and eat clover or grasses, or the edge of the corn field that has been mowed down. Again, it goes back to what I say, hunt the way you want to hunt, I won't tell you if it is wrong, it isn't my business. I agree with everything you said in your comment. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season, of course gun season is coming up fast. Thanks for watching and commenting, John. Tell you dad thanks and I hope he has a great rifle season. Juddie
Amen to hunting what you want. I miss the way it used to be too. I’m still going to hunt what I want. I’m not going to be picky. I get a few days a year to hunt, and I’m happy just to get a legal deer, no matter the size of the rack. Love the video.
Marty, that is how we feel. We might get a little picky, especially when we find something on the trail camera that wasn't there before. LOL So far, I haven't had anything close enough in to shoot, but my camera shows that I have several really mature does coming, but most of that is at night. Since I bought my extra rifle tag for buck season, I am being somewhat picky during bow season when it comes to bucks. It would have to be a really nice buck for me to take with a bow to waste that extra tag. The reason I get that extra tag is so if I would get a buck at camp, Jerod doesn't have to hunt by himself the rest of the week, he does the same thing. So, with the limit only being 2 bucks, this bow season we are being somewhat picky, but that is our choice. All of us as hunters hunt the way we want to hunt, and we shouldn't be telling others this is what you should only shoot, or you have to have this $5,000 rifle and scope or bow or you're not a hunter. Marty, we appreciate you watching and commenting, and good luck to you and that gang this upcoming rifle season. Look forward to the videos. Juddie
@ I didn’t buy any extra tags this year. Kind of my way of protesting lowering the limit. If I get one early, I’ll go with my grandson, or I’ll squirrel or rabbit hunt. Lol.
Good video i enjoy watching my view is what ever makes a hunter harvest happy is what matters being outdoors now in my 60s i enjoy being out there in gods country and this bow season in ohio on oct 2nd i harvested biggest 10 pt of my life on 2nd sit but i would have been happy with a nice doe i have another tag and still go bow but waiting til gun season because o just like being outside good luck guys and girls
Thank you, John. Absolutely, hunt what you want to hunt, enjoy being in the woods and looking a God's wonderful painting. CONGRATS on that buck!! Here is how I look at it, I bet you were so thankful and giving God thanks for that majestic buck you took. Now, just think, if every buck you harvested was a giant buck, where would the excitement be. Back here in WV, those guys that were pushing for a one buck limit, and settled for a 2-buck limit, all they are concerned about is giant racks. I, like you, are in my 60's and I just want to hunt, and I want to take whatever God puts in front of me, from the legal spike up to an 8 or 10 pointer. I shouldn't be shamed for taking a 100" 8 pointer just because this younger generation who grew up watching the Outdoor Channel and thinks every deer in every state should be massive racked doesn't meet their standards. We will be heading to camp here in about 3 weeks, and I am so looking forward to that. Appreciate you watching and commenting, John. Good luck during gun season. Juddie
Hey juddie i thank god for the beautiful red fox he let me see yesterday. It had a blondish face and tail, an overall orange colored body with black feet. When i was a young man i would have killed it and had it mounted. Now it was too beautiful to kill. It sure is nice out there in those woods. Good luck to you my friends
That’s awesome, John! Glad you got to see it. I was probably the same way in my younger days as well, John. Now, I just love getting out there and setting in the tree stand looking and watching everything. That like deer hunting, back in the day, if I saw a buck, and it was spike with 3" or longer, I was taking it. It was a buck, now after 40 some years of hunting, and depending on circumstances, I am somewhat picky about what I will take. I think as we get older, we tend to mature more about what we want to shoot and enjoying just seeing wildlife and being in the woods. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
What would you recommend to make deer meat tender it was a old deer back straps was tough I don't have teeth ha ha but it was tough any ideas be appreciated
Charles, I wish I knew. That has always trouble me about getting deer that were tuff. I remember that my mom used to use a heavy aluminum mallet that had grooves in it to tenderize meet, most of the time I saw her use it on chicken breast but saw here do it to steaks as well. I guess it helped to breakdown the meat some so it would be tender. Maybe one of our followers here might be able to answer that question. Sorry if I couldn't give you the answer you were looking for. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Good video Juddie. Spot on about how it used to be when you killed a deer, everybody who was at the ✅ station would come see my spike or 3/4 pt and say good job buddy! All these hunting shows touting huge racks inspires hunters to things thier way,..not my way or how I hunt. I shoot whatever I want buddy, hunters choice 100%!
Yep, Rondy, those were the good ole days before we had the "Outdoor Channel". I miss those days for sure. That is how Jerod and I hunt, we shoot whatever makes us happy. Hunt the way you want and what makes you happy, don't worry about what others thing. When they pay for all my hunting gear, rifles, bows, ammunition and licenses then I will hunt the way they want. This is my life, I worked for and paid for my license, gear, etc. and I will hunt the way I want to hunt and shoot what I want to shoot, as long as it is legal. Appreciate you brother for watching and commenting, and thank you for your service a day late! Juddie
Great video. I always enjoy watching and lookn forward to your videos. I agree 💯 about people shaming others for the deer they shoot. The trophy is in the eye of the beholder. We are old school buddy the good ole days are gone. Good luck to you and jerod the rest of the season stay safe
Thanks, Steve. Well, you and I are a different breed, we were brought up different than what these newer generations were. We were taught the experience of the hunt, the fun of deer camp, that it isn't about a trophy. Like you said we are old school. Thank God that when I got into hunting there was no Outdoor Channel to brainwash me into thinking that I wasn't a hunter unless I killed a 180 inch or bigger buck. That I had to have all this stuff from different manufactures to try and be a successful hunter. Well, I will stop there, don't want to get on another soapbox. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting, Steve, really appreciate it. Juddie
Great video guys. Great hunt too always good to have some action I had a good morning that morning too. Loved your rant about buck shaming in my opinion any deer you shoot legally is a trophy I just don’t understand why people care what other people shoot they have to be the most miserable people I couldn’t imagine it. You guys have a good day!!
Thank you, Adam. That makes the day a lot better when you see action going on, even if you don't get a chance to shoot. I tend to get on those rants, and after my friend's nephew was treated the way, he was, I just had to speak my mind. I even commented to the guy, that at least you could have congratulated him and then made your comment about not going to know what its potential would be. It is those types of attitudes and comments that is going to ruin hunting and cause more and more division. As I said, when they want to buy all my hunting equipment and clothing, licenses, fuel, etc for me to hunt, then I will hunt the way they want me to. But until then I will hunt the way I want to hunt and shoot what I want to shoot. You're right! People should be happy to see someone getting a deer. Thanks for watching, and good luck to you. Juddie
Thanks for sharing guys. It won’t be long before I’ll be out in the gun season woods and I cannot wait. Thanks for doing what you all are doing and God Bless. Be safe and keep the videos coming.
You’re welcome, Chad. Yea buddy, it won't be long. We are so looking forward to it, Chad. We need that get away time. We appreciate you watching and commenting, keep the faith, and good luck here in a few weeks. Juddie
Thanks for the video. It’s always nice when the action picks up. That was a beautiful day to be out for sure and I’m looking forward to what November has in store.
No problem, Keith. You got that right about the action picking up. It makes for a great set when there is something always moving. It sure was an awesome day for sure, and yesterday was a great day, until the rain started moving in. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
You are absolutely right, John, I'm a meat hunter through and through! But as I mention in my reply comment to your first post, now I am a little more selective. If I can hold out for a nice rack, I will. But if I need to put meat in the freezer, if that 6" spike walks by and gives me the opportunity I will take it. That is what I like about hunting, it is your choice of when and what you want to take. That is the way it should be and has been for decades and decades, until this trophy hunting, outdoor channel want a be started pushing for a one buck or two buck limits. And that same crowd will shame another hunter for not taking what they think he or she should have taken. I miss those old days when it didn't matter what you took, you got a handshake or a pat on the back for whatever it was you took. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Well I look at like this it's all about feeding your family it don't matter if you get doe or buck the meat tastes the same to me yeah I would like to get monster bucks I'm out there for the meat not the rack you can't eat the racks but yeah I'm with you on that
Melvin, we look at it like this, it is about the experience of the hunt. Take whatever makes you happy, a spike, a 4 point, 6 point or whatever, even a doe. It is about the experience and sharing it with family and friends and like you said, putting meat on the table to provide for your family. If, you just happened to get a nice "racked" buck then that just makes that hunt and memory more enjoyable. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Great video. I agree 100% with your comments about hunter's choice. Thank you for taking a stand on that. With all the negativity towards hunting these days I wish all hunter's could support one another. God Bless and good luck the rest of the season.
Thank you, Jared. There is no way that I would come off on how I feel about hunting. Yes, these divisions are ruining hunting and giving hunting a bad name in the public eyes. I have always said that the Outdoor Channel was the worst thing that could have happened to the hunting community. It has made the younger generation think there are monster bucks around every tree, every hollow. With that, there is the mentality that if you don't get a monster buck, then you're not a real hunter. Hunting is more than just killing, it is the time spent with family and friends in the woods, putting food on the table and making those memories. When it becomes nothing more than how big is the rack, something has been lost. Sorry to get back on my soapbox, we appreciate you watching and commenting. Good luck to you when you're out hunting. God Bless. Juddie
Hunting is having the right to make your own choices with in the law it's not the horns it's not about how big it is it's about friends and family makeing memory's that no one can ever take from you hunt for you not for fame to me makeing a kill is the start of alot of work but in the end its about what you want
You are absolutely correct. That is right, hunt for you, not fame or glory. If the good Lord puts a huge buck out in front of you, be thankful. As long as it is legal and you are making memories and providing for your family, don't worry about what others say. Thank you for watching and commenting. Juddie
It's crazy how you do everything "Right" and nothing, sit there talking to the camera and one walks in on you. I can't figure these gopro cameras out, we all buy them and we all have issues with them.
Bill, those pesky ole deer will show up when you least expect them. LOL I have several GoPro's and one is acting up on me, I guess it is time to retire it. It seems like the older GoPro's that I have work better than some of these new ones. The next video I have coming out where I went to find out why my feeder isn't working; I used my GoPro Hero+ instead of using my GoPro 7 or 8 to film. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thats why they call it deer hunting not deer fishing. i went out to my shop and counted the small bucks i have killed over thirty years and its forty one, from spikes to basket racks of all sizes and i have killed three time as many does. a long time ago a deer was a deer we did not see many, so you shot what walked in front of you. now days i only shot a buck if he has a large body three years or older and i don't shot does anymore but that's just me hunt, the way you please. good luck
George, you are absolutely right. You hunt how you want to hunt, and no one should tell you that you're hunting wrong. We hunt the way we want to hunt, and now that I have gotten older, in my 60's, I don't shoot the first legal deer I see. With the change in our buck limit here in WV, now I have gotten pickier, especially for bow season. Since I really like going to camp for the week, I bought my extra buck tag (rifle tag), so not to waste that tag, I am not going to shoot the first buck I see with my bow. Now of course, I checked my camera yesterday, and like some people like to say, I have a target buck on camera. If he were to show up before we leave for camp and I am bow hunting, I may just have to waste that extra rifle tag I bought. But, like I said we should hunt the way we want to hunt, take what we are happy with, and no one should put us down for it. It is hunting, we paid for our gear, our license, and it is our choice of what makes us happy. Thanks for watching and commenting, George, and good luck this season. Juddie

But I wish you and Jerrod the best of luck this season can't wait to see the camp charlie videos hope you all can put one on the ground
Juddie
Have you thought about using Ozonics? Helps keep from getting winded.
We really don't go in for all those fads. It may work, but it is just some other gimmick for an industry to get your hard earned money. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Juddie best of luck y’all this season buddy, I’ve had good movement here but I’m blessed with good deer heard been lots of chasing and rut activity
Juddie
Nice video. Can’t beat spending time in the stand. Beats being at work👍👍 heading to camp soon gun season starts Friday 👍
Juddie
I call Spike's wv 11 pointers LoL
Jamie, I have heard a lot of people say that. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting.
Juddie
@ got a video im working on now scene Ive got plenty of time off work 🤣 probably post Friday I explain little more about it
Jerod, if you aren't picky with the size of the deers rack why didnt you take that spike that provided ample time? It was great boduly size
Juddie
Hey guys what happened to big Al
Big Al has not hunted with us since the end of rifle season of 2022. He is fine, living at home with his mom, he has a job and is working. He sold his Bowtech Zion, and his ladder stands and feeder. Last time I heard anything about him, he had two torn rotator cuffs and that was his reason for selling his bow equipment and stands.
@ thank you guys for the update on big Al just curious what’s go y’all have not said anything about him. Thanks for the update
You said that right Steve 👍
Juddie
Yes, he did, Chad!
Juddie
@ I had good sit on Saturday. Gotta love this time of year.
I ain’t never tried eating them horns but i sure do love me some backstrap😊. I hunt for the meat not the trophy
Juddie
Are y'all still going to go to camp and do rifle season this year in 2024 or are y'all going to just hunt on the Reese
Josh, we are still planning to go to camp this year, if nothing happens between now and then.
Juddie
