I'm so happy that the relation/interaction between Rodney and Pep is so good. Not everyone in the group of a channel is as funny and interesting as you guys.
I've always liked Imperial Settlers. It's got mechanics like worker placement, enchantments from Magic the Gathering, and resource production and land destruction. It fits within an interesting sweet spot for mechanics and conflict. You can destroy opponent's buildings, but it isn't the core aspect of the game. I also like the ever changing interactions of your own empire. Great game!
Well one consolation is that people say: "If you loose a game you taught, you are a good teacher." Probably said by someone that looses all the time. ;)
Use the Watcher's Guild twice to build faction cards. Use Quarry and Armorer (which are useless after the fifth round's production phase but would give Pep stone if he razes them) as foundations. Put your shield on Builders. Use Builders to build Expedition and then use it. Use Fighting Ring. Raze the Mason's Guild in your hand. Build the ruins, then build the Dark Chapel (you may need to convert workers to resources depending on what you built with the Watcher's Guild). If Pep still has swords, skip building the Ruins and go straight to building Dark Chapel using your most tempting target as the foundation. Raze Pep's Coal Mine and Supplier as soon as he builds them. Don't let him use them for resources or points. The Romans use stone to build and lots of their buildings are grey, so you have to break up that combo. The Supplier needs to go, even if Pep puts his shield on it. Use the Dark Chapel to get VPs if you don't need the resources from one of the razes. Your goal is to build Fortress at the end for 6 points (a FAQ/errata states these types of buildings are capped at producing 6 VPs). If you get another gold building from the Watcher's guild, then build your common VPs-for-gold buildings card. You can still catch him if you get a bunch of faction cards down, score 6 VPs from Fortress, and aggressively raze his buildings (and your own via foundation) to deny him access to stone. edit: added "use Expedition" and fixed the raze discussion since I mistakenly thought Pep took the New Forest instead of the Supplier.
It is true that Rodney would get more points from Raid if he razed out of his hand. And maybe that would be better if he gets his last Raid from the Watchers Guild (there are three Raids in the Barbarian deck, but Rodney used one for a deal). But with only one Raid in play, the difference isn't very big. I think it is more important that Rodney try to stop Pep from getting the Roman engine going. There are two more Trade Colonies in the Roman deck, and they count as red and grey. So if Pep gets that Supplier in play, they score three points every time they are built. There are other grey buildings in the Roman deck. If Pep gets a gold coin and a VP every time he builds a grey, then there is very little hope that Rodney can catch him. The razing strategy basically boils down the this: Pep has a fistful of cards but not a lot of resources. If Pep manages to build all his cards, then Rodney will lose. His only hope is to prevent Pep from doing much in round five while having a strong final round himself.
New here; found your channel because my friends and i found it difficult to play dead of winter, so we looked up your tutorial (which you shot way back in 2014). Just commenting here because your set and your gaming partners have indeed come a long way. Goodluck on your channel!

Glad you're digging it!
Imperial Settlers and 51st State are two of my all-time favs!

I must be an awesome teacher.
So I should say this, is what you're saying?

Well, Pep can make ham and cheese sandwiches, so he's already at the pinnacle of civilization. I don't see how you can possibly beat that!
Hard to argue with this...
Is that a reference to his cards, or his tone?
We don't make mistakes, we only have happy little accidents.

Thanks for the very kind words Daryl! It's really nice to know you've been enjoying the videos :)
"...the print is pretty small". You think?! Never understood why they went with such small text.
I hear they may release a magnifying glass expansion ;)
