enjoyed your video - your understanding and explanation of protein skimming IMO pretty much nails it. back in the day we designed and built skimmers for both freshwater & seawater...hobbyist and commercial. you mentioned filter socks - we introduced them in the mid-80's - I used them filtering out impurities in dye and solvents where I worked, first used them in an Aquanetics commercial cartridge filter...we then designed and manufactured the first plastic (PVC) pressurized bag filters - we sold the needled filter material in sheets. from there we developed the first plastic/watertight/ UL listed UV. I enjoyed your video - you sound knowledgeable. Good job!

Thanks for a tips guys I always learn something new with your vids.
I’ve always run the octopus skimmers in my tanks and have been extremely happy with the cross section of quality, cost and performance.
Hands down my go to skimmer brand and the team at bulk reef supply has been fantastic at getting them to me fast and at a great price every time.

can I connect a pvc or tube to the outlet of the skimmer? I want to feed skimmed water to a separate sump for further cleaning. I don't want my return pumps in the same sump. I want to make sure everything is skimmed before hitting return pumps. thanks.

The dangerous part about doing it this way is that your skimmer output must perfectly match your sump turnover. It's going to be extremely hard to achieve that goal and probably more trouble than it's worth, but an external skimmer is going to be your best shot.

@@BRStv Thanks. Any suggestions on the protein skimmer to use, and how to connect it? Connect overflow to skimmer? thanks.

does anyone know how much noise these hAVE is the red sea worth the extra quiet cost?

These are very quiet and top notch skimmers. You will not regret getting one. I work at an AQ and have several of these, the 110, 150, and 200 models. The only mistake you can make is getting one too big for your bioload. If you have too much skimmer for your bioload, it will not produce good foam. As they said, if in doubt, go with the smaller one. I 100% recommend these skimmers.

That's not a skimmer that we currently offer, so you probably won't see us doing any videos on it in the near future. But, I've learned to never say never 🙂
