I saw them open the show at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in the Spring of 1987 with this song....blew the roof off the place. And having seen them in person at Live Aid in Philadelphia in 1985, they were the best band that day in the US.
I saw them on the tour later that summer, in the front row. I had never heard the song. It was an absolute wall of noise! I put this, the studio version (the best song on "Get Close", hands down) and live and studio versions by Hendrix in my Pretenders playlist. Thanks for the upload!
I taped this track off German TV in the mid 80s and watched it over and over again. I remember my mum came in one day during the end of the track when Chrissie is on the floor shouting, and my mum said, "Is she sick". My parents just didn't get rock 'n' roll. LOL
This may be a Hendrix cover but the treatment is pure Simple Minds arena rock. Chrissie is aping all Jim Kerr’s moves, right down to the stage clothes.
Players note: We had no sense of SM while we were recording this. It was a jam in a studio in Sweden if I remember. I can see the similarities but I can assure you that SM were not in the forefront. Great version tho'. Enjoy
There are tears rolling down my face right now. That last line..."We still have a lot of groovy time", oh Jimi, if it were only true. Stunning Chrissie, so powerful, thanks, and thanks for posting this great video.
Great song reminds me of Pat Benatar covering 7 Rooms of Gloom. Would love to see Benatar and Hynde collaborate. What a waste of both their talents not to get together.
this is a Jimi Hendrix cover . since Hendrix's estate has pulled most of hendrix's studio recordings off youtube we don't get much good hendrix recordings although he was great live some times like maui and woodstock the live link is far from the original recording but i'll give the link anyway. also live recording technology was not that good in the early days of classic rock. th-cam.com/video/5cJakuuzhi8/w-d-xo.html
sure friend. lead guitar. James "honeyman" Scott. he was already dead two years before this video here. the first album honeyman really shows his diversity in various guitar styles and he was only about 23 years old. he also co wrote songs with Chrissie Hynde "the singer and leader" of the band the pretenders. imho, the pretenders first album was their best to this day. you got to remember starting around 1978 to the late 1980's, long lead guitar solos were out of style. and so was complex drumming solos. but if allowed could probably play a long lead with the best. He died after the first two Pretenders albums. quote "....Two days after the dismissal of Pete Farndon[bass player first two albums. he died shortly after too], Honeyman-Scott was found dead in a girlfriend's apartment of heart failure caused by cocaine intolerance.[5]He was 25 years old, and was interred in the churchyard at St Peter's Church, Lyde, Herefordshire.[citation needed]...." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Honeyman-Scott
Extraordinaire ! Quel talent … Magnifique reprise de Jimmy Hendrix
Robbie was a MONSTER player, wow!
Best cover of any Hendrix song ever!! Pretenders Rock and no other female artist coulda nailed this like she did. 👍👍
Chrissie has that entire audience in the palm of her hand!
Tina, Janis y ella, las reinas del rock.

30数年前「GET CLOSE」のRobbie McIntosh様の繊細なギターは衝撃でした。この曲が切っ掛けでjmiを聴くようになったと記憶してます。

This is the greatest chrissie I remember ❤

That’s the way to do a cover. Make it your own, but keep some of the original’s integrity.
Saw Hendrix in Sacramento Calif in 70 and bet he would dig this one... Chrissie can do anything and look damn good doing it..

Ha just thinking the same thing. Is that the edge on guitar circa 93?
@@tonymccann7445 good call, guitar is part 90s Edge, part 80s Charlie Burchill, all the while with Mick MacNeil on keyboards.

This is a killer version. The band and Chrissie were smoking all the way through.
Absolutely agree. Only wish I could upvote this more than once!
Yoh---- W O W. Chrissie and the band . Jimi would have been proud. @@mikedtw

No question !!!
Not Jimi but still love it! Excellent rendition, outstanding guitar. And of course Chrissy !!!
Martin Chambers is powerhouse of endurance on this Hendrix cover!!!
That's great, would love to see this entire concert. Looks like Chrissie was pretty energized.
Greatest female rocker of alll time!!
Jimi would be proud..
Love this tribute to the greatest guitar player of all time! This cover rocks! :)

Wow brilliant :))
I saw this tour in Phoenix. Iggy Pop opened! Wish I hadn't been so high.
I believe that was 87
This was the 1984 tour. The Alarm opened on the spring leg of the tour. Simple Minds opened on the summer leg of the tour.
It’s all good. Doesn’t make ya a bad person!
Wow nice and Great Cover for Jimi Hendrix Experience
Excellent ... wish my Bowie performances were this good .... I now leave the car running at the rear stage door.
Jimi would have been proud of this .
how do you know?
Her stage behavior reminds me of Jim Kerr, her husband around that time.
She rocks!!!
Love it !!
The piano is fine people
Great song reminds me of Pat Benatar covering 7 Rooms of Gloom. Would love to see Benatar and Hynde collaborate. What a waste of both their talents not to get together.

Jimmy Hendrix song
🍒
No one human is a s cool as Chrissie. Not one human. Nope.
i quess its like an expressionist avant garde thing or whatever
She's been taking stage craft lessons from her ex, Jim Kerr
Jim Kerr' influenced.
agree, the same clothes ;)
Agree... the piano is not helping...
Then you do it.
Turn up the bass. Turn down the piano. That is all. It would improve this 100%.
good, except for the piano.
Haha, you could tell she'd be listening to her boyfriend's music ;)
horrible......and beyond.
But then so are you.
after honeyman died the pretenders weren't the same. this song sucks
John Doe; What was honeymans ax? This drum line sucks, it's like a disco beat.
