Besides, the Eastern and Western Churches have been celebrating Easter on different days since the 190s and the Quartodeciman Controversy, so uniting the two dates will be against 1800 years of tradition.
What do you mean 1800 years? The shift to the Gregorian calendar is a post schism alteration that only applies to the church of Rome as all other apostolic churches use the true old calendar. It was the Rome who split by becoming power hungry and demanded the alteration of the nicaean-Constantinoplian creed and adding the filioque. Since the schism and rome has begun swimming in a sea of heresies to the point that even their priests got sick of it and split and formed the Protestant movement. I thank God for leading me out of papism, to the orthodox church.
The Julian calendar was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 b.c. The Gregorian calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 a.d. to correct the errors in the Julian calendar.
While I like the idea, there are logistical problems which would result, at least at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. With the two different dates, each sect would have their time for the Easter celebration and liturgy. The problems would occur if the Orthodox and the Catholic were to celebrate Easter on the same day. There’s a sharing of that space by other, usually smaller sects of Christians, as well as the Latin rite, and the Orthodox rites. So working out how sharing the space would occur would require compromise and working out the logistics.
'Being united together in Christ ' is most important and ultimately the best that would please God. I appreciate the Pope's initiative, we have to be united. @@alexanderjaysonmanaligod2721but Easter is not the exact date of Christ’s resurrection. Easter is always celebrated on a Sunday. The date of Easter is determined by the position of the moon and the equinox. This year it’s April 20 then in 2029 it’s April 1. Neither date can ever be correct. If we believe in the resurrection there has to be a fixed date when that happened. Scientifically his execution happened on a Friday, either on the 3rd of 33 AD or 7th of April 30 AD. His resurrection happened on a Monday. We should celebrate his resurrection on a Monday or pick the 6th or 10th of April as Easter.
@@bngr_bngr Actually, Jesus' resurrection occurred on a Sunday; the Jews observe the Sabbath beginning on Friday evening until Saturday evening. All 4 Gospels state that Jesus was raised from the dead on the 1st day of the week or the day after the Sabbath, which would be a Sunday. Thus, that is why Christians identify Sunday as the Lord's Day as their day of worship and in commemoration of Jesus' resurrection--His victory over our sin and death.
And why is it lunar? Oh yes, because Christ and the Apostles were celebrating the Pasch on Thursday. It is the correct Sunday on the Jewish Calendar. On the calendar Jesus used.

It looks so unusual that Francis wears a larger zucchetto that covers almost the whole top of his head. I wonder if that is so it will stay in place better. Previous popes, along with bishops and cardinals, do not usually wear them in this size.
A question- Is it the dating of Easter for the west that is the problem or the date of Christmas that is the real problem for the consumer based Western Church, just asking, please let me know when you think.
Good point.... The rc church could align Christmas and easter with our Orthodox brethren but would the world go along with it and to a lesser extent would 40000 protestant denominations join in on the unity train?😊
@ thanks for the reply. If Rome follows the dating of Easter as the Church in the East and that is both the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches the money will follow. The Protestant churches just follow what everybody else does, so if the calendar shows the dates for Easter the preacher gives a sermon on the resurrection of Jesus, as most of the free churches don’t follow a liturgical calendar for the church year but a few do and as Rome celebrates so will they. December 25 will be the big challenge for the west, you know the Day we spend MONEY for Gifts, sometimes we remember the Nativity of Christ but for the most part no. January 7 is the day known as Old Christmas by a few old timers in the USA but even this is slipping into faded memory. The western calendar will celebrate Easter over 30 times in the remainder of this century before the Jewish Passover, the council of Nicaea ruled that the church was to wait until the Passover was complete not just one day it includes the day of Passover and the days of unleavened bread which number eight days in total. I believe if the Western Church follows the rules for dating Easter as the Orthodox do then finding a way to move Christmas to December wouldn’t be a problem. Then again the January 7 celebration of the Nativity eliminates the commercial side.
There once was, a thousand years ago. And since then, we've been divided. If we share essential doctrines, it would be really good to repair the divide. Jesus prayed that their would be unity among his followers, and Paul told people not say they belonged to Paul or Peter, because Christ wasn't divided and his followers shouldn't be either.

Why does he, yet again, have to try and change the one, true, Catholic, and Apostolic Church in order to match those who have willingly split away from it?

Decidedly untrue, East and West celebrated Easter on the same Sunday for 1000 years.
That would be great
The Julian calendar was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 b.c.
The Gregorian calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 a.d. to correct the errors in the Julian calendar.
I really don't trust Francis.
@@fernsgilbert you got it wrong. People are not against coming together, but they're against doing so at the expense of the truth. This is very shallow approaching and we can't base it on that.
Let's strongly pray for Christians' unity and hope that all of them would be soon embraced by the only universal Church, that's Catholic by definition. And it doesn't mean that Rome has to let go everything it's part of it's millenial Apostolic tradition for the sake of a unity much more formal than substantial.
Daniel 7:25 and 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12, Matthew 24:22 says, "And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short."
This is what ber'gog'lio is attempting, however, Christ Jesus eliminates this heresy as St. Paul writes, which is also found in Joel regarding the return of Christ and the Day of the Lord.
Step one is for all churches to adopt the Gregorian calendar. The Julian calendar, used by most Orthodox churches, is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian Calendar. Therefore, if a full moon falls between March 22 and April 3 on the Gregorian Calendar, it will be used to calculate wetern Easter but not Orthodox Easter.
you're misinformed. no matter which calendar an Eastern Orthodox jurisdiction uses we all celebrate Pascha the same day.
Orthodox Easter always falls after Passover. You can’t celebrate the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ before the crucial days that led up to it.

Hola to2 , tengo unas cuantas preguntas 🙋 sobre la biblia
