    Monty is a brilliant and knowledgeable gardener. His book, The Complete Gardener, is a gem. Severe depression is debilitating and impacts on countless numbers of sufferers across the globe. Gardening is very therapeutic and mindful and a great avenue for healing. I wish him peace and send a prayer for recovery his way.

    This is salacious journalism, unwarranted and unnecessary. Monty Don's health problems are well known and documented here in the UK, he is totally honest about his personal issues. But these do not define him, he s regularly on our television screens, looking well, and as informative and generous as ever. He's a national treasure and does not deserve to have his life picked over like this.

    There is far more to Montys life story than this.. He and Sarah started a very successful jewellery business which served celebrities and royalty for several years ,until the financial crash of 2008 forced them into bankruptcy and debt Sarahs family had to provide them with a home for a time He developed Long Meadow virtually from scratch. from these difficulties has sprung a beautiful garden A very hard worker and determined character with a great support in Sarah and his children SAD is a common condition in dark rainy cold countries like the UK I would recommend he move to Portugal and try , if not med gardening, Atlantic coast where its NEVER winter...

If you manage to keep your power, you will feel fine. It is not necessary to spread your energie, your knowledge is enough. I understand you and wish you a real good future. Get your power from above and from the earth and out of your heart. And thank you for so much good work in difficult conditions. All creaturs in the plants and the soil will help you - don't forget the trees, you are one for your own.

    My first depressive episode was at the age of 10. I'm now 68 and my last episode was when I was 55. I used psychoactive mushrooms, and since then have taken care to keep my gut health in order. The gut biome is so important. It's the second brain. Yes, sunshine is also a great medicine, and small doses on a regular basis is very helpful. Stay busy being creative and socialize with supportive people is another key. I LOVE the gardening program and have been greatly inspired by it. By all means, take advantage of psychotherapy, and antidepressants as needed as well. I did. I even made a career providing treatment to mentally ill individuals. God bless, and cheers!

    Dear Monty I love you as I love gardening. Actually I have learned so much from your videos from your stories and trips to different parts of the world. I have always been fascinated by a miracle of growing plants from a tiny seed to mature herbs. Sometimes I think plants are ailiens because they are programmed to survive for ever dispite any sorroundings. Please try to get strength and wisdom from all plants in your garden. Stay life-loving as the 2000- year- old olive tree you once told about.

    • @josephinedewar4469
      @josephinedewar4469 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Obviously you do not understand depression by saying " soldier on" etc. They can't!! My husband suffered depression. I not only lived with it but studied its effects. A depressed person needs help and support during it. They need medication, something to else to concentrate on and loving kindness to support them. Driving a car helped my husband, as concentrating on driving, relieved his mind from his depressed state. We would go for a long drive, eat out and focus on something different from our usual routine. Gardening is Monty's relief, so carry on Monty - we love what you do and it is healing for you.

      His name's Monty, if you or anyone close don't suffer with depression then you really don't know how it can affect you on a daily basis, you literally cannot even drag yourself out of bed on bad days, its crippling, even if you love gardening some days you just gaze at the plants and weeding to be done but just cannot bring yourself to do it, that's what it can do to your brain, then another day you feel like doing a few things, one day up another day totally down, you cannot just soldier on it doesn't work like that I'm afraid! consider yourself lucky you don't have it

  • @vallip4254
    @vallip4254 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There are many things that help, gardening, animals, generally being in nature. Sun light, exercise...CBT and listening to people like Eckhart Tolle, he's funny and he helps. No he's not coming up with light bulb moments but he has the gift of being able to articulate what has occurred. In my depression I got angry at how it was robbing me. My anger forced me to do something mentally, I simply was not going to tolerate it any more.and in taking this tack, there was a shift, in cognition... I cannot explain. My depression left me and has not returned . It's now been 30 years.
    I do get melancholy, it's never deep and it passes quickly... best to you. My way may not be your way but I hope I've given you food for thought .

    • @josephinedewar4469
      @josephinedewar4469 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You were spot on! You discovered how to switch mentally to beat it. Driving relieved my husband's mind when he was depressed, cos he had to focus his mind on something else than his depressed feelings. So we planned days out with long drives to interesting places, a nice meal out a long drive home. It worked wonders for him. Bravo sir - you learned a way out too!
