  • Just one of many reason why it just makes more sense for the cattle to stay up by the house for winter.

Hi Alton. Not much has happened. Probably be pretty slow going until it starts warming up out. Hope all is well.

I personally like horned cattle. Gives you a place to wrangle them. It's also good for their self defense if a coyote or something comes around.

I horned cows have a very nice look, but they are not a big seller.

Are you going to dehorn the calf?

This calf will not have horns. Although her mom does, her dad is homozygous polled therefore none of his calves are able to have horns.

@@dexterranch Way to be, I get into arguements here locally about polled Dexters are not pure as originally the breed had horns.................Whether that is true or not I do not care, because I do not miss horns or the dirty job of taking them off at all. Cattle can be dangerous enough by themselves without arming them with two speers on their head!

@@tpfromcentralpa1692 agree we dehorn all of our calves. We are picking up a homozygous polled Bull at the end of February. Our horned Red Bull is going in the freezer as we haven’t been able to find a buyer. Polled seems more popular and easier to find new homes.
