If I have to choose between the ORCS or the OPS when facing a charger - I am taking the ORCS every time. Sure, the OPS has been buffed for it's time, but the chargers will usually get away before it drops unless you get them to get stunned hitting a rock, making them stop for a few seconds
That is good! So what would be a good pairing with the precision strike? An Eagle strategem? Maybe not the 500 as it's cooldown is also pretty big but, oh boy, do I love it.
Funny how in the first game the Rail cannon was the go to for anti tank and hevay units. You could spam it faster than even the Gatling in the second game.
Both Railcannon and Precision definitely have their use. Precision is fantastic damage and can be used on anything with low cooldown. Railcannon if fantastic with scatter in play, or (and this is the big one for me) if you are needing to deploy it quickly like when multiple chargers are making it hard to time the placement of the precision strike. Both have awesome uses that fit different scenarios, great design in my opinion :)
Honestly it’s always been that way, railcannon’s lock on is great, but the short cooldown of precision strike and 500kg makes them stronger if you can hit it, they both have a niche
I run ORS and OPS together, ORS guarantees a hit at least and then you can take it out with impacts. OPS can get blocked by a jumping hunter or you can mess the timing up with the stratagem deployment increases, or completely miss with orbital scatter
Not only that, but the canon doesn’t always kill the titans or it focuses another enemy despite them being less of a threat, if they fix the targeting and buff the damage then it’d be more worth the time, especially in higher levels where there’s high amount of chargers and titans
On the spewer heavy maps I bring both the precision and rail cannon strikes because I run auto cannon for said spewers. Both are good for all the heavy units but I like rail cannon specifically for behemoths
I usually bring both. Precision strike as the all-arounder strat, and railcannon for titans or fire and forget for any heavies I don't feel like dealing with.
Just be sure to check the effects on your planet. Some planets have increased orbital spread, meaning that “precision” strike could hit up to like 30 meters off target.
Just because a better option exists, doesn’t make the railcannon strike dead. You don’t need to play optimally, it’s still exactly as strong as it were.
I have been genuinely enjoying the game now since my burn out of the game tired of using the same class but now I can run around with an mg, napalm eagle strikes, and orbital precision strikes which makes me feel like I’m in Vietnam.
Orbital precision strike has always been goated. I've always ran it and still do. Mix it with the orbital toxic gas strike and you not only have anti-tank, but as well as a hoard clearer, both with short cooldowns.
Railcannon isn’t dead, it has its moments where you don’t have time in the war you’re in to aim and time it for hoping it’ll hit your intended target, only time it it fails is if it decides to hit a lower tier enemy
I've been using the precision air strike for over 2 months. I don't even own the game ive just always found it better than 210 seconds rail cannon when i go to my friends to play. He always doubted me, IT IS NOW MY TIME TO STRIKE WITH MORE PRECISION. Hope this doesn't mess up my timing though ive had it down for so long already.
Idk about the flame thrower, too risky, 1 out of 2 times I use it, I’m likely to get burnt or a teammate haha. Flame is powerful but it’s too much of a liabilty
I’d like to see the rail cannon strike’s cooldown decreased to maybe 150-180, then it would be viable again, I think the precision strikes call in time should go back to 3-4 seconds to compensate and make the decision of which to bring a truly tough one
This was already a better pick before the buff. The railcannon had the potential of not killing large enemies such as bile titans, and already had a longer call-in time. This buff was just a cherry on top of an already superior cake
Interestingly, the Railcannon already existed on a bellcurve. At first it doesn't seem particularly amazing, because what's even worth throwing it at, there are plenty of perfectly good anti-tank support weapons like the EAT. Then as large target count climbs, having a fire-and-forget option like the Railcannon or Orbital Laser becomes super valuable. And then later again, you realize the cooldown on the Railcannon and the limited use count on the laser just don't make them worth bringing when good anti-tank like the EAT and the Orbital Precision Strike exist. In the end, it all comes back to hitting them with the OPS.
I wouldn't say its dead. I don't personally use it but my friends that do use it I tell them to save it for bile titans as we can use EATs, recoiless, Quasar, OPS, etc on chargers. Bile Titans consistently cause the most panic and breaking of defensive lines than any other unit and thats mostly because of its damage sponge capability. Saving the Railcannon for when they pop out of the ground neuters their main advantage. Just use the railcannons on bile titans and factory striders and not chargers and hulks which can die to many other options and it still has utility
Cooldown on the railcannon isn't the worst if a whole team runs it. That's 4 in one go or 4 staggered across a few minutes. Either way it makes up for the downtime especially if you run other heavy killers too (like the quasar).
They can both be a pain to use against bile titans, the precision strike because it requires patience and timing and positioning, and the rail cannon because it just doesn’t have the killing power to justify the long cooldown. You sometimes need MULTIPLE rail cannon strikes to confirm the kill on a titan and it sucks
The problem with the rail gun is not the cool down. The problem is it should one hit striders and bile titans and it doesnt. You’re launching a several ton chunk of metal using magnets and gravity for its acceleration from orbit. In real life it would kill anything it lands on, regardless of the armor. It’s like dropping a nuke without the fallout at the location it hits. It should have no problem taking out a bile titan or strider. Hence, why i think the cool down is just fine, but it needs to be buffed to do the job it’s supposed to do and one hit stuff.
I still think the two stratagems have separate, albiet similar niches to each other. The Precision Strike can effectively be a Railcannon Strike with less than half of its cooldown and consequently more than twice its impact on a mission, but that's only if you actually hit every shot. There are many situations where you can't land a Precision Strike because of sporadic enemy movement, a bad angle or a literal skill issue, so you would be better off with the Railcannon Strike. I personally almost always run the Precision Strike so I can force myself to improve at using it, but I still think the Railcannon Strike has its own unique role in peoples' loadouts.
I suppose. I never really used the rail cannon strike because it took forever to recharge. It's only upside is it targets things. It wouldn't be bad if it killed bile titans, but it doesn't.
I recently moved from the Railcannon to the precision, but I wouldn't say it's dead. There are times having that precision is great, especially with atmospheric nterference or increased plotting causing issues.
I would say that the OPS replaced the 500KG rather than the Railcannon, but the OPS does also have some drawbacks with it not actually landing when your throw it, with it hitting from the side or angle sometimes, I love the Railcannon since I don't have to really aim or think about it, kinda a fire and forger because of the lock-on which works most of the time While it doesnt one-shot Bile Titan, it always one-shots Chargers even the Behemoth variants
I've been getting fantastic use out of the precision strike. Tanks and factory striders are perfect targets for them. Hulks and bile titans are a bit more difficult.
I still prefer the tail because it has such a small area of affect you can easily drop it right next to friendlies and deal with the main target without milling yourself or teammates accidentally
Yeah but does it home in on targets tho? And personally i think both are used for different things. Railcannon is for one big target. Precision Strike is for a small group of enemies
The orbital rain canon is still the best for bile titans So the sacks (yes there are 2, the chest one is separate) have a different health pool for some reason, so taking the sack sour first then calling in the strike will still 1 shot titans

This buff was just a cherry on top of an already superior cake
Considering the deployment time of the Precision is bugged it's even MORE OP. With upgrade the call-in should be 1s but it's still 3...
Bro i still haven't moved on from my orbital laser. I dont have the room for more shit 😭
What's the Bile Titan going to doing whilst you're trying to throw the summon accurately?
You can also use the precision strike to destroy some things that usually require hellbombs
I use the railcannon because yelling “ACTIVATING RAILCANNON” in voice chat is cool
It's not dead, it still kills larger units, but if you kill the giant monster, it continues to kill smaller units with a really good time to kill time
why doesn't call-in upgrade work on a new precision strike??
I wouldn't say its dead. I don't personally use it but my friends that do use it I tell them to save it for bile titans as we can use EATs, recoiless, Quasar, OPS, etc on chargers. Bile Titans consistently cause the most panic and breaking of defensive lines than any other unit and thats mostly because of its damage sponge capability. Saving the Railcannon for when they pop out of the ground neuters their main advantage. Just use the railcannons on bile titans and factory striders and not chargers and hulks which can die to many other options and it still has utility
I was already using the Precision Strike, so the update just made it better.
Manual aiming can be dealt with using stuns, anything that can’t be stunned are also not that hard to hit with OPS anyway
Eagle 110s generally do the same amount of dam, but with way less downtime
Rail not die at all ) his auto aim still goddess
I would say that the OPS replaced the 500KG rather than the Railcannon, but the OPS does also have some drawbacks with it not actually landing when your throw it, with it hitting from the side or angle sometimes, I love the Railcannon since I don't have to really aim or think about it, kinda a fire and forger because of the lock-on which works most of the time
While it doesnt one-shot Bile Titan, it always one-shots Chargers even the Behemoth variants
Nice video bro no complaining about nerfs or buffs just a nice piece of information on the game 👌
might have to pick this one back up.
The best way they're killing strategems. Not nerfing it. But buffing other strategems. I'll 100% take that!!!
Railcannon needs to be 60s so we can take it as heavy weapons replacement for more fun loadouts.
Rail canon isnt dead, now you can use both!
I love precision strike with the stun grenades. Makes charger kills easier
I was already using it on titans gonna have to get used to the new timing
The orbital rain canon is still the best for bile titans
So the sacks (yes there are 2, the chest one is separate) have a different health pool for some reason, so taking the sack sour first then calling in the strike will still 1 shot titans
You know what else one shots titans…. The orbital precision lol that’s without breaking the sack. And its cooldown is greater.
If you dive and rotate your thumb stick 360 it negates or only does a quarter fall damage please let me know if you try and if it works for you too
Orbital scatter has entered the room
