I can honestly say this is the best vid on running technique on youtube. Everything you said is going to help, and the arm swing push back is something I'll implement. Hip drop, cadence, treadmill pull v push. Very very good explanations Sota and thanks again for taking time to put this together for a random punter. 🙏

Appreciate it Peter! Defs just take small steps, one cue at a time because otherwise it gets overwhelming (at least for me it does). And the big tip about finding an athlete that you like the technique of helps. Just watch and try and copy

What a great video! Thanks a million for sharing. I'm 52 years old and just got into running about 5 months ago. your pointer about not over-striding and how the arm movement mirrors your legs is gold. keep it up mate!

Any chance you can do a video on your all time favorite racing and training shoes? I know you’re a big fan of the Pegasus 36 for training. Love the videos brother. 🙏

I used to be a fan of the Peg 36, but I can easily name like 20 shoes that I like more than that now! If you want a quick glimpse of me answering that question in recent times, I highly recommend checking out episode 63 of the Stronger Stride podcast which I was recently on as a guest! Skip to 1 hour 15 minutes.
I'll defs try and make a video on it though! Thanks for the question

Very true, that's a great point that I didn't touch on but I totally agree. Looking at my old clips, my head seems to wobble around whereas recently my head is much more still at those faster paces!

I heel strike while running on shoes, I often run barefoot and if I dont change to midfoot or farefoot strike, the heel striking impact I feel is enourmous, no matter what pace i'm in

Any tips how to fix foot pronation sota ?
I’m temporarily wearing arch supports to fix my foot pronation but my foot still pronates when I land and it’s giving me niggles
Great vid btw keep it up

      Hey man,
With my qualification only being an ESSA accredited Exercise Science graduate at the University of Sydney, I'm treading on thin ice by going against some podiatrists and physiotherapists ideologies. I did get 93/100 on a biomechanical analysis long form essay assignment and scored fairly well in anatomy though.
You'll be surprised though, podiatrists/physiotherapists can vary a TON in terms of their outlook on pronation and arch support, so there will definitely be physios and podiatrists that will also love me for my standpoint on this.
With the disclosures out the way here are some points to consider:
      - More info will definitely be needed if you want the most precise and detailed answer from me (like I'd have to see your gait, and ask you a crap ton more qualifying questions to narrow down the cause of the niggle)
      - Injuries are never caused by ONE factor. It's always multifactorial, but some of the factors will place a bigger impact on causing the niggle though: which is usually to do with lack of strength of the muscle/tendon, footwear, sudden increase in training load, etc.
      - My personal take on arch support is that I don't really believe in it, unless the pronation is causing an insane amount of pain. I think not having the support and using the opportunity to strengthen the tendons and muscles can go a long way (that's what I did for my posterior tibialis, peroneus longus and achilles tendinopathy on three different occasions).
      - Also because you haven't told me what muscle the niggle is at, it's hard to dive into any more detail in this initial message, but you can hit me up on Instagram again and we can have a chat!
      - But as a final point, I think something even better would be to reach out to a few podiatrists and physiotherapists who are active on social media to get their thoughts too! I can recommend you some if you DM me on Insta
      All the best man!

@@SotaMaehara hey Sota, thank you for taking the time to formulate this detailed response
, I’m not a big believer of arch supports either since they give me blisters and is only a temporary bandage solution It would be nice to go back to 120km weeks again without any support , but for now I guess I’ll keep using em while simultaneously strengthening the muscles and tendons etc like u mentioned, but I don’t want to completely take time off running to strengthen the muscles and tendons hence my I’m wearing arch supports so I can still run a bit , but without arch now my feet pronate really badly so I kind of have to use them ……

My form looks good when I’m running fast, but what about on your easy slow runs?

    • @SotaMaehara
      @SotaMaehara  ปีที่แล้ว

As long as you’re not getting niggles or injuries because of your easy run form, it’s fine
I touch on this near the end of the video too, how I think I have bad form when running easy. When you run faster you’re forced to have better form
But yeah, nothing wrong with “unflattering” easy run form imo
