    I still have my MZ-R91 player. Works perfectly. Use it with Multicolour TDK 80min Md's. Beautiful player. Recently bought a Sony MZ-R900 with everything original and in mint for 50.

      That is actually my favourite unit, but I'm delinquent in finishing my video of it.

      Its pretty similar in many ways to the NH3D...build quality is superb! Lithium battery still works nicely holding 18+ hours per charge... Again uses magnesium allow in the chassis construction...

    Forgot to mention a couple years ago I bought a Sony LISSA system which includes a firewire connected minidisc deck which is pretty cool. MDS-LSA1, STR-LSA1, CDP-LSA1. Can control them all through my MacPro using custom software through firewire.

      I had no idea that such a system worked. What OS are you using?

    The case material is Magnesium, not Aluminum, lighter and more resistant to scratches. It`s the last generation high end md units that where "Made in Japan". The play/Volume knob you are complaining about is quite ok once you get used to it. And what`s really important, it`s still working after 14 years . Later units like MZ-RH10 do not reach that quality (defective OLED Display and buttons). The real problem with these units (Mz-NH1/3 , MZ-RH1) is the battery, which costs 100€.

      Thanks for fixing that information. If I figure out how, I will update the video at that point.

      It's the best overall Hi-MD unit.

      I finally pull the trigger on eBay, can't wait to receive it!!! It's the sexiest MD ever made IMO.

    This year I purchased Sony MZ-NH1, NH-3D, MZ-RH10, MZ-RH-1S HiMD decks from japan as well as NW-HD3, as well as modern DAP's NW-A25, NW-A35, NW-A45. Bought a MZ-RH1B 2 year ago. The minidisc players have a charm the other more modern units no longer have IMO. Keep up the MD videos. If you have Sony MZ-E10, or MZ-EH1 those would be great reviews to see.

      These MD's are worthless... The best of them all, it's rare and you don't know the model reference and I know what I mean! LOL

    I have an RZ-70 from back in the late 90’s, beautiful machine with great sound. I was always under the impression that the optical cable copying directly from the CD gives much better quality so I stayed away from the net MD players. I still use a discman with an optical out to record mini discs from time to time even though I use the Mac ecosystem for just about everything.

    • @FauxtakuLounge
      @FauxtakuLounge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The optical cable only transfers information. The USB cable does the same thing. In the end, the ATRAC file is the same.

    • @Echobase71
      @Echobase71 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fauxtaku Lounge interesting. The other reasons I always used that method was that Sony’s proprietary music management software was supposedly awful, and that optical would transmit all the track data as opposed to a standard audio cable.

    • @bufo333
      @bufo333 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats not entirely true, the net md system converts any audio file to atrac3 which is lp2 awful, then decodes that and sends lossy lp2 pcm data to the minidisc which is stored as superior sp atrac. Unfortunately sonic studio has already done the damage by first converting the file to lp2 first. Stay away from net md devices. sony mz-r37 r55 r70 r90 all great recorders. Record from vinal using analogue, or sacd/blueray tidal mqc via optical in real time for best quality atrac recording.

      I sold my MZ-EH1 long ago. Sorry, it was too much of a player to keep ahold of. I have all the measurements and have written up a good comparison of it and the NH1, so I hope to have it come up.

    What are some md players/recorders that you reccomend? I just care about the sound quality. But this one looks amazing. Are the second generation MD player/recorders really better than the first generation of sony?
    And this was a good review

    • @FauxtakuLounge
      @FauxtakuLounge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. 2nd-gen Sony recorders are better sounding than the first gen, but first gen are the most powerful of their entire line up. The NH3D is probably the best-sounding from a machine perspective, cleaving the closest to 16-bit theoretical limits of any MD unit I've tested. There are a few with less hiss: the RH1 in particular and the, DH10P, and NH1, NEH1, and a few more, but my favourite-sounding (not quality but subjective sound) is the 1998-era MZ-R50, and even the Aiwa AMF70. The problem with the AFM70 is that it hisses more than a tape player. But if you can get beyond that or find someone who can modify the output to get rid of the noise, what a great recorder.

      You schould actually make a video about modding the output of the aiwa am-f65/70

    .I have a Sony MZ-E909 MD portable player and a Sony MDS-JA 30es stationary player......After all the other formats, I'm tired of chasing them.....The more I like MD, the more I write my own music on mini discs from any audio and video media......If you compare HI-RES AUDIO taking into account not how much the device itself costs with the corresponding headphones (portable media), but where to get the original audio media, not F
