I'm surprised that nothing was discussed regarding the link between dental health and heart health. Additionally, any infection in the head, including those in the mouth, can become quite serious. Lastly, parents should (and she should have stated this very clearly) not send a little one to a nap or sleep with a bottle containing juice as the sugar in it (particularly apple juice) will have hours to cause problems with the gums and teeth. She noted her connection to a toothpaste company but, given the data she stated, a dentist or dental hygenist needed to be there instead of her. What she said was rather superficial and she swept over the point of it being problematic to find a dentist.
Agreed. She looked a little nervous about the whole interview. I guess there aren't any celebrity dentists.. Other than Hanna Kinsella from the Real Housewives
I remember a lady coming into my school in 1970’s England teaching us how to brush our teeth correctly…I’m in my late 50’s and still have all my own teeth.
The huge benefit of brushing is that it applies fluoride to the teeth twice a day. Sugar is the cause of decay but it's frequency not quantity that creates holes in enamel . None of this was mentioned. Lovely lady but a dentist would have been so much more appropriate.
Sorry why not get a dentist to explain this rather than someone who represents Aqua fresh .Never let your children drink fruit juice it’s full if sugar.A dentist would know that
First step - don't give them the sugars. All about putting the gate at the top of the stairwell. Shouldnt be school responsibility - start in the home.
there's far more to it and you would find it's not just a singular factor that has seen an increase in poor dental hygiene. in some cases parental neglect will play a part but that is not true in all cases. I suppose though it doesn't fit so neatly in a box unless you over simplify it.
Do you realize that in the world (Canada, Italy etc.) there is a saying: "British smile", or "English teeth" meaning, unfortunately, very bad teeth. NHS is not available in most cases, private dental care is too expensive for an average person. Plus general attitude towards dental care in society is appalling. People don't care.
This is just nasty, lazy nasty parenting. I’m surprised that the Dr didn’t correct Charlene when she said checking teeth once a year as the reccomendation is every 6 months so twice a year. Forgetting to brush children’s teeth before school especially is ridiculous. I pay £40 every 6 months for a check up on my 6 year old and yes if I could get a NHS free appointment that would be great, however I’m not going to not have her teeth checked and do my own part because of £80 a year. This problem is so avoidable and should not be the responsibility of the schools.
Proud to say I’ve never had a filling!

i feel like she didn't actually have anything of substance to say, a dentist would have been more knowledgable
Exactly, you are right!

Emily has brains and beauty, I'm Jealous!
This is ridiculous, nhs waiting lists are so long that it means kids aren’t even being seen as they can’t get a dentist!!
Then book early, book your next one on the day if ur appointment. So many parents think they can just call up the dentist a month before hand.

the main message should be brush daily! with fluoride toothpaste, as long as youre doing that youre fine.

As a dental nurse I agree.
Tooth brushing should begin at home.

Maybe get a dentist on, not just a celebrity doctor.
She is not a dentist why not bring a dentist on who would know more 🤔🤔🤔💕

the state of nhs dentistry isnt helping.
The state of parental neglect of children's teeth is the problem.

The dental crisis is because of diet full of carbs and sugar and not enough saturated animal fats!
Shes pregnant again!
