The 2007 trial when Terry Fawles was sentenced to death for the "murder" of Dahlia Hawthorne, thanks to the false testimony given by her sister Valerie. But this time, with a defense and prosecution willing to change history.
Honestly, it's 3:40am at the time of the upload and I feel like dying lol. If there are mistakes I missed, please forgive me xDD
Also I decided to go all out with using the anime music here. Damn I wish the Season 2 OST had been released.

I love the characterization for Ray here! It definitely helps in explaining why he was hesitant when he met Miles again at first, but was able to warm up much faster than you'd expect for someone with a warranted distaste for prosecutors. Well done as always!

Something Ive picked up that nobody is talking about is the knockon effect of DL-6 and the IS-7 case, its been 6 years (at the time of the trial) and Ray still believes that the prosecution wont let him see the crime scene, obviously engraned into his mind (The moment im on about is 2:44)
How funny. For the last few days, I had been creating a what-if in my head for Raymond’s first trial as a defense attorney with Faraday prosecuting. It’s nice to see what that would have looked like here!
Side note: In my personal head cannon, Raymond passes the bar in 2002 after his experience with Gregory and von Karma during IS-7 and the aftermath of DL-6. He then faces Faraday in his first trial shortly thereafter
That could work too. I personally prefer to have him be more of an average-joe lawyer instead of the classic "genius super attorney who's conquered the courts by the age of 20" that Ace Attorney rubs in our face all the time xD
You know, if the extended backstory that you gave Dahlia is anything to go by this might be the best outcome for her. Maybe being sent to juvie (or whatever the AA equivalent is) and getting away from her unloving home, she could get the help she needed and take steps to improving as a person.
True. That's why I had her respond in panic when she heard Mr. Hawthorne was there, because she knew that even if she's declared innocent she'd be returned to him and keep living miserably, and probably even worse if, due to this trial and Valerie/Terry's words Mr. Hawthorne could become suspicious of whether Dahlia was actually in on it, making his behaviour towards her even worse. Juvie sounds like a much better choice for her than that ngl lol

She become nice but she is no fool to believe that she could live on by being nice alone.
She may or may not accept Iris right away even after she is reformed. Partly because she thought Iris is too nice and stupid, not to mention that she never directly suffer the abuse her father had done toward her.
Iris had Sister Bikini for support, Dahlia had no one and she stands alone. Especially since she would never met Phoenix, who could help her, in this timeline.
There is also a chance that Morgan might seek her out for her plan to make Pearl the master of Kurain Village. Which depends on what she want with her, could either revert her back to the Dahlia we knew and hate or worse.....

A brilliant storyteller, she'd get out of her head as an _actual_ murder mystery author with an unrivaled and peerless tragic backstory herself.
Nobody fights like a Fey... or a Hawthorne.
But the two together, does give you a Pearl.

I honestly didn't invest much of my mind into the investigation games even when I played them, this makes me wanna revisit them but I always remember how much of a slow trip the first one was...

Saw this when it was posted 2 minutes ago. Decided to comment after watching because oh boy, this was great. Lots of twists, mini-arcs and drama with a fresh cast. Makes me think about how interesting it would be if an AA game could have one play as the prosecutor (like Franziska)
At this point I would love even if we simply got another Edgeworth game, lol. And yeah, I also love the idea of Franziska being the MC for once

The job you did "rejuvenating" the character sprites is very good, and I have to congratulate you again on Valerie's sprite, it's too good.
As for the writing, I loved how you treated Raymond, practically speedrunning his character development in a single case XD.
The duo between Shields and Faraday is perfect, and if it weren't for the fact that I know this is more of a "one shot" I would be almost sure that Faraday would propose to Shields to form and be the third "leg" of the Yatagarasu after the case.
I'm going to sound like a broken record but again, great job Debastian!
Thank you, mate! Yeah, I admit I had the thought of "Ray being the 3rd Yatagarasu" with how the video played out, but unfortunately I decided to finish it better sooner than later xD
I really liked the way you write him too, from his past trauma, to his goofy attitude, to his unorthodox investigation tactics. Great job Sebeste!

I enjoyed this from beginning to end. I especially liked how you gave Raymond a small arc with Faraday considering his distrust of prosecutors after all the conflicts with Manfred Von Karma, learning that not all prosecutors are obsessed with winning. I was worried about Mr. Fawles considering how he responded to Dahlia’s betrayal in the canon, but fortunately no body had anything for him to drink and I think him realizing that he was being played by both sisters sooner steered him away from that tragic choice. I’m curious as to how Dahlia would be treated since she is still a minor in this scenario, but then again Machi exists so who really knows with the laws of this franchise.
Yeah luckily Terry hadn't got his hands on Dahlia's poison at the time so even if he wanted to commit suicide he'd be unable to, and forced to hear and accept the truth for what it is. Guess it's what would have happened in his canon 2012 trial with Mia too, if he hadn't drank the poison at all.
As for Dahlia, personally I thought the court would either let her go free of charges as a minor who got manipulated by adults (hard to convince a court that she's a mastermind at 14 years old, so Valerie and Terry would probably not be believed), or send her to juvenile prison, though I don't think Faraday has enough physical evidence to convict her.
Worst case scenario I think, is she'd be returned to her father's house and keep living a miserable life, especially since Mr. Hawthorne could now be suspicious of her due to the events with Valerie, making his behaviour towards her even worse.
This is my first time here -- this just popped up in my feed. I love the fact that Ray gets more screentime, and the fact that he still, even now, eats the paper from his notes. The Judge's brownish(?) hair is epic; it gives him a whole new touch that I didn't think I'd see until now. I didn't expect Byrne to pull a defense move and subtly + not-so-subtly guide Ray into the right direction, nor did I expect Badd to be the witness that they called.
I also like the use of the music and CG use. I can tell that you worked hard, from the sprites to the storytelling. 10/10 video, would recommend and would watch again.

And going around places, majority of them are just made for shitposts, there's only a small minority who actually puts research into character traits, series' intertwining lores, and how the game's VN carries its story
Those small minority usually can hook me up to even hours and make me stick around wanting for more, this is one of those small minorities

There's two ways. Either you turn a character into popups (which wouldn't have worked here, or Terry would be standing in front of the Witness stand)
Or the way I used here, where I merged Terry with the Background. There's no Terry character here, the only thing changing is the backgrounds each time Terry talks or changes his pose xD
How I loved to see Faraday as a fair prosecutor ❤❤❤ other options through the Prosecution Office would simply carried on Valerie's lie

Well, tbh I don't know how happy Dahlia would be if she was returned to Mr. Hawthorne, especially since he might suspect her afterwards due to Valerie's and Terry's words about her involvement in the fake abduction. But it would probably be a better outcome for Phoenix lol

I'm going to be serious here: I honestly thought the judge was immortal and never got any older, nor was he ever any younger.

This is amazing! I love the characterization of both Faraday and Shields. One baring his talons as the Yatagarasu, the other overcoming the trauma of Von Karma.
I straight up was not expecting the prosecution to say "Hang on, before we take this any further: since you, the victim, are still alive, then obviously the defendant is innocent of murder."
That made my day.
Byrne was a prosecutor who only fought for the truth and didn't beat around the bush. The defendant being alive and admitting to it was more than enough for him to drop the case 💪
so, will there be a part 2 in the future for the separate trials in this alternate timeline or is this a one-off thing?
Probably a one-off thing. I already got my hands full with my existing running series (Lana's Parole, Mia's Law School Years and Herlock's Deductions) and they've been quite taxing on me, so I don't think I wanna add more series to the pile xD

@@debastiansebeste on the comment about Yatagarasu, really? I guess I'm too rusty to realize that fact. I always assumed that whenever I see Byrne and Badd on screen, the yatagarasu has already been formed. Even if the spy/calisto hasn't shown herself in yet.
Also yeah. I sometimes do that whenever I watch vids like this. Giving like a live reaction of sorts.

This was awesome. If you ever felt like it, you can take this further too by "what if'ing" Raymond as part of the Yatagarasu too (though I'm not sure if the timeline can work out like that). What I really liked was Ray being shown embittered towards the prosecutorial side, but still having his own tricks to try and get around dirty tactics (from Von Karma) to counter it, like stalking the witness instead of just hoping that he can investigate the crime scene. You did an amazing job on this!
Yeah I felt I needed a conflict between him and Faraday (and since Faraday was a good guy, there was no reason for the conflict to arise from his part lol), but Ray's backstory with Manfred was the perfect scapegoat here xDD

@debastiansebeste Yes, that would be the one. The main difference is that with that video, I came up with that possibility at the last second. Here, I said the paper thing much longer in advance.
Also, I think I might have figured out why you used Cornering Together: because that's exactly what Raymond and Byrne were doing, alternating going off on the witnesses to get to the bottom of things in a way that, on a separate note, I found almost reminiscent of Rise from the Ashes (but I'm also biased towards that case, so I might be forcing the similarity here). You really put the "together" part of the name into the plot. ❤️

This would be ironic if it came to pass. Many of Dahlia's crimes would've been prevented since being in the system as a juvenile would've let her get some much needed help. Also, her father should be charged as an accessory since his parsimonious penny-pinching is what drove Dahlia to such lengths.

Well, I've explained a few times in the past that said polls are "prediction" polls for the subs to try and guess who it will be, it wasn't meant to affect my character picking decision :p After all the video was already in the making before the poll xD
