YG Artists' voices are all unique and westernized, so yeah.
tbf I think it's because we're adults that we think that way about the lyrics 🤷🏻♀️ for Mmm, people were getting all worked up over stuff like Hyunsuk's line "tense up you harden me like Medusa" or "it's going to explode because of you" in the chorus but uh for the former he literally means seeing the girl paralyses him like how Medusa turns men into stone statues and for the latter, if you take the song as a whole (especially in reference to the outro), they are talking about their heart speeding up and beating really fast whenever they see the girl! that's why it's an emergency haha!
It's undoubtedly a more mature concept but I don't believe it was actually that sexual/sexy, nothing in their staging or outfits made it that way too and fans were respectful enough given their age and didn't sexualise them. In fact for I Love You, there was a dance move where they had to kinda lift their shirts up and down rapidly and stylists gave them inner tees to wear because yeah, minors in here! so I think the company is aware and managing it well.
Treasure is interesting though, because their fanbase is made up of quite a lot of older fans (eg fans of other YG groups) so it may feel strange to us. but if I think about it, when I was a teen, and listening to boybands who were around my age or slightly older, there were a ton of questionable lyrics that I didn't even understand till I was much older 🤷🏻♀️ it was just fun pop music to me back then and I think we just need to view this in the same light

i agree. Plus, I'm Junghwan age and it is different because I live in the U.S., but the things I see here with kids my age or younger and the western music, they really don't compare if were talking mature/sexy or inappropriate.

Yes especially with Teume are so protective with them. Not in overprotective but more like respect them especially our maknae line. Teume are so aware with anything. For me as long everyone know how to behave then it's okay
When that "let's make love" line came out, many people got shocked and thought it was inappropriate. And you know what? That made me curious, I searched more about that phrase, and I found out the archaic meaning of it, that is to engage in courtship. I took it as a new knowledge, since English is a foreign language for me. People also said these boys might not know the meaning of the phrase, while I thought differently. They knew it, but they still used it. Why? Because they wanted us to think and try to catch the real meaning behind their lyrics. Oh, and they're pretty good in English although only some of them are active speakers.
They're my ult group. I share the same sentiments concerning a couple of their concepts. I question some of the lyrics. Even the b-sides lol. If I was 16 I don't think it would bother me, but as a 29 year old I do feel some type of way. They have a few other MV's Beautiful, written by Yoshi for an original soundtrack, and a fan song called Everyday that Treasure self-produced. They also have a live video for their song Orange produced by Asahi.
They were formed via a survival show called Treasure Box. It is a great way to see their true talent. It's also an interesting look at the realities of the K-pop trainee system.
I think some of the themes are mature for Treasure, but the responsibility lies with the company and who manages them. You aren't the only adult who feels this way.
Fans were also concerned that the concept of MMM would be a bit to mature for them but honestly, they handled it really well. Fans did not sexualise them and the company did not make them do a sexy concept. Mature yeah but not sexy
Also fun fact! MMM was actually produced with a girl group in mind! So I do feel like that changes the way you could view the lyrics eventhough the rapline did write their rapparts themselves
Believe it or not, This group is one of the best of best male group. At their young age they can produce song, the vocals, rap, dance the visuals and now they have a web drama good actors, im looking forward for this group.
Okay here's the back story, they are from YGE and were formed on a survival show. It was only supposed to be 7 but there was sooo much talent YG was going to make a second group called magnum and they would sometimes promote together as 13 members. 1 member left so it left them with 12 and YG decided to just put them together as one whole group. It took almost 2 yrs from the survival show called YG treasure box to debut. Fans got to vote thru out the show so our fandom name became treasure makers teume for short cause we helped pick the treasure members. The reason for 2 leaders is cause as i said they were supposed to be 2 groups but YG left it as 2 leaders to make it easier with the amount of members they have. On a side note 2 other groups that have 2 leaders that would be great if you would check out is DKB and ONF( or On and Off). Treasure really has they older YG party sound to their songs at the end. They really released these songs just months apart to showcase the wide variety of sounds the could do. The high note is none other that Yadam or God Yadam as he is known. He is a legendary YG trainee that has been a trainee for many years since he was very young.
Sorry for the book just thought I could give you back story if these wonderfully talented boys. They are also releasing a drama made by them right now and all Teume are hoping for a comeback announcement cause it has been a long time since we have had one🙏🙏🙏🙏

I understand what you’re saying. At the start even I was questioning YG and why they gave them these song each release. But now I understand that it’s their concept, a BOY going through different emotions of love or types of love. From innocent love, intense love, obssessive love and appreciating love for what it is and being happy. Noone really sexulised the boys either due to the fans having known them through the survival show and protected them, so all is good!

I've been listening to Kpop since 2010 and the one thing I can say about YG is that he never disappoints when he debut these groups you should check out their web drama on their channel lol

Every single TREASURE member is a whole package of talent and beauty to be honest. by the way, the guy hit the high note in "My Treasure" was Bang Yedam. Check out his demos, covers and solo (especially Wayo, Existence and Make Up), they were so greatttt.

Your concern about mature lyrics or theme on their earlier songs is valid. Many raised that as well. I guess what makes it still okay is that they are still pretty much restricted, and with the choreo, it's pretty much just acting cool or handsome or manly, in a sense. I am sure it's their marketing strategy too to appear as boy-next-doors rather than cutesy ones just because they are young.
Even teumes were once afraid that they might go overboard, but the management is handling it really well so far in taking care of the boys and making clear limitations.

all the necessary infos have been said about Treasure, so let me just add another perspective regarding MMM which concerned the whole fandom, like seriously wtf was happening, I was shookt as well when I first saw it, I was ready to fight if I ever saw anyone sexualizing them. BUT here’s my two penny, they will grow older and more mature. the concept isn’t as bad as we all think it is - I mean yeah for us who are older than them it’s ‘illegal’ - but their target audience are suppose to be the same age as them, and their average age is 18 that time, so I guess we were all just concern for them, us being adults. it is mostly up to the audience on how we receive it. I find it awesome btw, I love the hiphop vibe of it
they also came from YG entertainment, an agency who is known to be “the rebels of Kpop”, they don’t go with the flow, the make their own. with that said, I feel like YGE wanted to show that their new boygroup isn’t as far conceptualized from their senior groups in YG, because coming from a YG stan, I’ve followed all the YG artists before Treasure and their concept threw me off of how different they are from the usual YG image. MMM is the closest song Treasure has with the YG image.
although I also must mention that all of these title tracks are made by other composers and producers, Treasure only had their input on the actual songs, but if you watch their self-produce and self-composed songs, as mentioned by other Teumes, you will figure out their own true color. that’s their own YG style. what they showed here on the title tracks are what YG just gave them, it’s different from their very own.
Once you start to really know TREASURE, you will never ever leave the fandom...these kids are super talented and such a very thoughtful people. You should watch ORANGE coz that song will definitely showcase their vocals. Watch their live performances too... these kids deserves the best :) I'm sure you'll love them. First watch their MVs and performances, then deep down to their variety shows...you will love them even more.

You can out their pre-debut release "Going Crazy", their b-sides, "Come To Me", "Bling Like This", and "Orange" (produced and written by one of the members) which have mvs. They also have other b-sides, "Slowmotion" and "Be With Me" which don't have mvs. After that, check out their Japanese debut "Beautiful", which is an anime OST for Black Clover & was co-written by one of the members. Finally, you can check out their song "Everyday" which was written and produced by the boys as a gift to their fans for their first anniversary (Treasure Map episode 58). Oh & you can check out Bang Yedam's solo debut song "Wayo" and the cover that the vocal line did. Once you get through all of that, you can check out their pre-debut song and dance covers. When you love Haruto's deep voice so much maybe youll like Haruto "stick dat" clip from YGTB (their survival show). Thr first time Haruto got his 1st impression (and HUGE... ATTENTION) 😁😁
i actually understand your concerns about their lyrics/concepts, and I'm the same age as Haruto lol I'm normally the person that says "put that tongue back in your mouth boi" and it does make me a biiiit uncomfy to see them this way :// overall, tho, they're incredible for sure. if you're interested in seeing more deep-voiced rappers i'd recommend checking out ONEUS as well, they're RIDICULOUSLY underrated!!
I have noticed some fans also go around talking about how much of a man Haruto is due to his deep voice. Some older ones even call him “jailbait”. It reminds me of teenage girls being sexualized because of developed figures.
Regardless, I’m excited for more Treasure reactions.
The thing with YG is that, if it's musically artistic, it's a go regardless whether they're too young for the concept. BUT, note that amongst other groups of the same age, YG is really strict about their artists outside of music. They're not allowed to bare their bods, and notice that is consistent even with YG older groups. While most, if not all, boy groups are flexing their bods, YG artists are fully clothed. Thanks for the appreciation! Hope you stay for their comeback!
The concept for TREASURE (so far) for the The First Step era is teen crush, most of their songs is about that young puppy love, either ina cute or aggressive way lolz. When it comes to MMM, it was supposed to highlight the dance choreography as it is their dance track, but of course looking at the lyrics we cannot believe it😆 Anyway its ok for me, atleast they get to show their range in just some months after debut. And after that they showed their cuteness and redeemed themselves by releasing My Treasure I lob it😆

Regarding MMM, you're not overthinking! A lot of fans felt a little off when they gave the "mmm" parts to the minor members. It's something we've pointed out multiple times. We feel like My Treasure and their succeeding releases (Beautiful JP debut, self-produced fan song Everyday and their web drama OST) are more suitable for their age range. It's nice to see the boys doing all sorts of genres and concepts but I hope YG becomes more careful for as long as the maknae line's still technically kids. Glad you enjoyed their title tracks! Their bsides are definitely more age appropriate and diverse.

this whole album concept is about teenage boys feelings for their crush and their evolution. First, he tries to win the girl's heart in 'boy', then he describes his feelings for her in 'i love you', then he shares his teenage hormonal thoughts in 'mmm' and finally being her moral support in 'my treasure'
As a teume I felt so proud of them seeing him smiling listening to treasure.

I like how you share your thoughts, too! And, it was definitely not overthinking. In addition to what other commenters said, having a large gap between the youngest and oldest members and varied musical interests contribute to them having a hard time balancing the concepts they do. Hopefully, their next comeback would be the start of them cementing their distinct sound.

My Treasure is my fave too, out of all their title tracks. I lean more on their b-sides but ILY is very special because it's the song that they released when I was having a hard time from work and the second I watched it, it felt like my whole being was lifted. So yea, MT and ILY are my queens.

Thank you for reacting to them! Your concern is really valid haha but one thing I know from YGAs is that the artists/groups themselves are very hands-on with their music releases and concepts so I think they weren’t forced to do it. Treasure likes to show all their sides to the world.
I noticed that a lot of times when Korean lyrics are translated to English, they become a lot more mature and sounds more sexual (?) Cus when I watch Korean people’s reaction, no one pointed out anything like this. But when I watch English speaking people’s reactions, almost everyone would think the lyrics are so mature LOL 😆 I myself can speak Korean, Chinese and English. So it’s very interesting that I never thought the lyrics are weird when I read them in Korean or Chinese but when I read the English lyrics I was like hmmm 🤔 HAHAHAH
BUT THAT BEING SAID I still think the ‘let’s make love’ part in I LOVE YOU was a bit weird cus that’s English and the people who can speak English in YG should notice that….

Actually some of the positions of the members you mentioned are wrong. Treasure has no main rapper and main dancer, they only have 3 rappers (Choi Hyunsuk, Yoshi, Haruto), 2 main vocalists (Bang Yedam, Park Jeongwoo), 1 visual (Haruto).
