The first time I visited the tower was in the 1950s. My Dad drove from Grand Rapids Minnesota with my mother and four kids all under the age of 12. My Dad who had always seemed very organized and docile seemed to change as a result of that trip. He developed a twitch in his eye and often you could hear him talking softly and carrying on a conversation when no one person was around him. My Dad was a WW2 combat veteran and later in life we thought it was his war experiences that brought on the change in his behavior. My brother and I knew it started because of the spirits he might have spoken with at the base of Devils Tower. My Mother insisted that the change occurred as a result of him being inside a 1953 Chevrolet with herself and four children under the age of twelve for a couple weeks during a trip to Devils Tower. Mom was always joking around like that.
Being a father of 5 kids myself....l would venture a guess that your dad's behavior change was brought on or hastened on by the long road trip from Minnesota to Wyoming with four kids!
@@b.abrackus6403 about 30 years later I had the good fortune of being chosen by my wife, of the time, and my son and daughter to drive them to Devils Tower in a 1986 Ford Ranger pickup truck. It’s important that I mention it was a club cab pickup, without air conditioning. It had a full front seat and the back “jump” seats were for the children. We drove day and night for miles through open prairie, bad lands, and the Black Hills. We drove from Southern Minnesota across South Dakota, into Northeastern Wyoming. Also, as a side note, like my Father I’m a Vietnam War combat veteran. I found upon my return, that like my father, I would often find myself discussing the events of that trip with what I believe to be the same spirits as the ones my father spoke to so many years before. I might also mention that the woman that accompanied us at the time, my wife, (God bless her) has long since left our marriage and now lives peacefully on a farm in Central Minnesota. My children are grown now and my daughter, now in her forties, has just returned from a trip to Devils Tower with her husband and two teenage sons. She spoke of wonderful days and nights, walking the trail around the base of the tower. And imagine my surprise, when just the other day, I heard her husband softly mumbling something about having been visited by the spirit of the bear and having to sacrifice a goat to the “stone columns” to cleanse himself from the heaviness that seems to prevail within the confines of his brand new Subaru.
Thanks Jeff and Sarah for another very interesting video. The story of the jumper who landed on top of Devil's Tower is hilarious. As Bugs Bunny used to say, "What a maroon."
Wow ! I wonder how many times it’s been sold 😂. All kidding aside you two always bring us great entertainment. I’d never heard of a stunt like that but leave it to the “history hunters” to toss in all the details. Makes for quality TV viewing. Thank you ❤️
We apread my Mom's ashes at Devils Tower when she passed. She loved The tower since seeing Close Encounters. I've been back several times, almost always warranting a trip to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Deadwood. I've loved the vlog of your vacation. Thank You Jeff and Sarah!!!
My husband, young son and I camped at the base of Devils Tower in the summer of '85......the stars at night was an extra bonus. Love your show, you two keep it up!!!😊
Devil's Tower is one of my favorite national monuments. Oh....and we've all had ideas that we didn't quite think through so go easy on the poor guy. Jeff and Sarah thank you as always for taking us on the adventure.
I was there a few years ago and you mentioned a lot of information I didn't know. I follow you and Sara as much as I can. I very much enjoy your travels and also enjoyed learning what I could about your past life and the loss of your beloved wife. I know this is late but I pass my condolences to you. Keep traveling stay safe and well.. Best to you both..
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for another great video. I have had several friends over the years talk about Devil's Tower. I do remember when the guy died, because one of the gentlemen they interviewed in Detroit area actually was part of the rescue group for for that gentleman. Apparently he was either dropping food or helping the climber when he got down. Anyway thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much, Denise. We really appreciate your appreciation for our work. Lol I’m curious if you watch our videos on your smart phone or if you watch it on TV or your laptop or even a desktop computer.
That clears that up, Jeff. I never had that story straight. I'm glad noone got hurt during the rescue... very interesting, as always, Jeff and Sarah🤗💛👏
Another great video! Love watching something that makes me say “I never knew that!”, which happens a lot from your great backstories to these landmarks! Keep up the great work you guys!!
Hi sarah and jeff, much appreciate this most interesting visit to devils tower, I know it is big tower for sure, I seen the movie close encounters and heard the movie was filmed there at the tower, pretty funny about the man jumping from the plane on the tower but also pretty not to smart knowing he got caught up there but happy he got rescued off the tower. Thankyou again I enjoyed your time you put into this visit and thank you for taking me along. hugs and love.
Good to see you again Jeff and Sarah hope you are doing well enjoy your hard work on another episode sending you all love and hugs 😊 you have a wonderful week see you next time devils tower looks like a petrified tree stump
Thank you so much for the peaceful place with no people! It was like having a little walk in the park! Always enjoy your hard work to put these videos together for us!
What a trip you guys have gone on, seeing some of the sights that most people only read about if that. Thanks for another fact filled and beautiful video.
Thanks again J. & S.! I did not know about the jumper. Devil's Tower has always been an amazement to me. I visited it in 1980 while attending Sturgis motorcycle rally on my cross country trip. And the movie, Close Encounters. 🙋♂️🏍💨
Thanks for another great adventure and historical tidbit! As with many others, my introduction to Devil's Tower was the Close Encounters movie. Thanks for recording and posting this episode Jeff and Sarah! I really enjoy your history hunting!!
Thank you for another wonderful great video! I need to do a trip out west and visit these landmarks. This guy didn’t have to put up with crowds on top of the rock! 😁
Very cool and interestingly shaped rock. Love to visit that one day too! Thank you for bringing us along guy’s! Take care and see ya on the next one! Frank from Philadelphia, PA.
I'm up in Canada, but would love to visit it one day, much history and wonderful old stories, some of which sound quite spooky. Great vid, all the very best !
I've got to visit Devil's Tower back in August of 2016, I thought it's so amazing to see, I remember hearing about the stunt, but didn't know the whole story, Thankyou for sharing Jeff & Sarah.😀
I remember Devil's Tower was in the movie "Close In counter of the third kind" . I love the Native American story about the sisters becoming the constellation!💕
Jeff and Sarah. Thanks for sharing your adventures. My summer 2019 I did exact trip. Also I visited Agate fossils beds national monument & Fort Robinson at Nebraska (the one mentioned in Dance with wolves movie) Devils Tower is one of a kind place to visit.
Phil from Folsom here, another great job Jeff, very informative, we will have it on our list to see, just got back from Zion, really enjoyed it, I understand about the volcanic activity could possibly make DT but I think I’m going to have to stick with the super big bear. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving
Hi ! A Daredevil ! I guess he thought he was evil knevil ! Thanks another fun and interesting video! Beautiful view of the countryside ! Nice vlog ! See ya ! Deborah 🇨🇦
Applied Forrest reference was hilarious! I had to pause not to spit my coffee 😆 You gotta visit Tombstone. C.S. Fly was based there and he took the Geronimo photos. His photography studio was reconstructed. He also did some survey here at my state (Sonora) after a big earthquake. Also, lot's of history there as you must know. Great episode, as usual!
Appreciate the video! My wife and I loved driving up to Devils Tower to have a picnic and go hiking. Interesting tale concerning the gent who spent 6 days there in 1941! Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm pretty sure I saw the ghost of George slither behind a rock at 7:04. Proof of the daring yet embarrassing misadventure that will forever go down in history. Thank you for bringing this little known and interesting tidbit to our attention.
Thank you for this video. I have high altitude problems where my body starts to shut down. Your videos allow me to see sites, I otherwise would miss out on.
We always talked about visiting Devils Tower, never made it. Reminds me of the same lava formation in the Sierras. We chuckled on your weather report to tease the folks back in California. Because of that, I had to check the weather. Right now, your not far off from us! National Weather Service has Modesto Airport at 37 degrees right now, Loveland, 34 degrees. Yes we did have 1/2 inch snow last night LOL. Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!
He could count & name the rocks but miscalculated the length of the original rope just a minor detail. Probably wanted that whiskey to help warm him up. Thank you for sharing devils tower, your vacation and knowledge! Have a great Sunday!!!
