  • In this video I am tying the White Wing Blue Charm Atlantic Salmon Fly Pattern. I have to admit, my eyes are not what they use to be so its getting harder to tie, I may need to get a magnifying glass for my vise.
This is the most requested salmon fly pattern for me and I usually end up running out of them.
It is a modification of the original blue charm. There are also several variations of this pattern most of which just means changing the color of the material used in the butt. Yellow, green and red are usually the most common. Also, some tend to like this one with a purple body which has proven to be very effective.
    * White Wing Blue Charm Atlantic Salmon Fly Recipe
    Tag: Oval Silver Tinsel
Butt: Red Glo Brite (Use what ever color you wish. Floss or uni-stretch is also used)
    Rib: Oval Silver Tinsel
Body: Black Floss (Purple is also good)
    Throat: Silver Doctor Blue Schlappen
Wing: Kid Goat Fur (white calf tail also good)

I'm back doing a few fly tying videos. Don't worry though, I will still be producing other videos as well.

Sweet. I love that blue too. I have a friend in Iceland who also posts flytying videos & while they use a number of North American & UK patterns like we do, his own Icelandic salmon patterns use a lot of this and other bright blues. They look somewhat similar but also have a somewhat different “flavor” and are often more sparse. I don’t think TH-cam allows posting of links, but if you want a look at his native flies, I can post the information for you to get to his site.

Thanks for watching! Yeah there are some interesting patterns out there for sure. Even here in NL we have our own variations.

Great tying , do you prefer moose versus white calf tail for wing ? In this video are you using calf body or goat ?

Thanks. Depends on the fly I guess. Can't go wrong with moose hair though. I remember stories from some of the old guys years ago, that's all they would use, no other material, just moose hair. In this one I used kid goat fir for the wing.
