Climate and disease resistance
Buffaloes are well-adapted to the local climate and are resistant to many diseases and parasites.
Murrah breed
The Murrah breed of buffalo is native to Punjab and Haryana and is known for its high milk yield. In 2016, a Murrah buffalo at the Lakshmi Dairy Farm in Punjab set a record by producing 26.335 kg of milk.
Buffaloes are also valued for their meat and as draught animals. They are more efficient than cows at converting low-quality feeds into milk and can thrive on low-quality crop residues and green forage.
