We can carry upto USD 5000 or equivalent in any currency, you can either carry Dhriam/AED by exchanging in India or can carry INR & exchange at Dubai (if you are planning to carry INR then carry 500 notes, because for 2000 notes they pay little less). I personally carry cash, because sometimes bank card charges transaction fees at time of loading in India, or sometimes shop owners at Dubai also charges transaction fees, so prefer to carry cash.....If you are very certain to buy things from Dubai then carry AED, if you are still not sure then carry INR and exchange at Dubai. Alternatively carry half in AED & half in INR..
I paid all money in cash, its upto you how much gold you want to buy from Dubai....the gold shops will accept cash even if total amount is 10 lacs....one more thing, make sure to take proper bill for GST refund.
