  • This video explains pneumatic cylinder force calculations & air consumption calculation formula for pneumatic double acting cylinder used in meter-in circuit. The video explains how the pneumatic force and air consumption is calculated in detail. Pneumatic cylinder piston force calculations are confirming with the values provided in the pressure/force table catalogue provided by FESTO.
While calculating the pneumatic force a small frictional force is taken into consideration whereas during air consumption calculation compression ratio factor is considered.
Pneumatic circuit design for various applications will be done in the coming videos.

Great Video, I watched it to get a better understanding of Air Consumption. I checked your formula with the festo's air consumption calculator and it was completely correct and enjoyed!
One question: what is the reference for Compression ratio factor? How did you get to that formula?
Because I saw in several websites just multiplying P not (P+1) by using law of Boyle-Marriotte.

so the air consumption calculation in the video is just for 1 cycle right? let's say the speed of a machine is 30 cycles. so i just need to times it by 30 right?

Excellent video. What is FRL and what is the "reference" for formula used at 6:27 of this video?
    Thanks.

FRL is the Filter, regulator & lubricator unit & the reference is from FESTO catalogue.
