    My son is a welder, 20 years old. Last year he bought his own home less than a year after graduating high school. He took classes, got certifications, during high school for both welding and ASE certifications. To go to that trade school he got up at 6 for high school, regular classes to 11, leave and drive two cities over eating in his truck on the way, then trade school until 5 or 6, I forget, then to work until 11. Every day for two years and classes and work through the summer.
    The payoff? Bought his first home at 19, 100% money he'd saved himself and a very nice home in the kind of neighborhood people want to bring their kids up in, which has also gone up in value a solid $80k since he bought it.
    Super proud of that young man.

    Tell your friend "thank you for his service" from one vet to another. Welding can be a great career. I worked at a nuclear power plant for years. Nuclear qualified welders are always in high demand and can make serious bank. Some travel and live in their RV to support many plants around the country during outages.

    Thank you for your service. My late husband was Army. I took a welding class in June last year called "Women in Welding". It was facilitated by a great gal who was taught welding by her dad as she grew up. She continued to advance and is both an instructor at our local Community College and a professional in the field. We were taught very basic welds and I think the stick welding was my favorite. Thank you for pointing out clean-up after the job as that defines a professional versus someone who has not yet learned the value of a job well done. The fireplace screens are stunning, BTW. Would definitely watch your channel when you launch it. Thank you, JD, for featuring really amazing people on your channel.

    Big Texas kudos to y'all JD. Cool to feature a very talented veteran showcasing his skills using fairly basic tools. Fireplace looks awesome.
    Hopefully, he'll be able to launch his own TH-cam channel with y'all's guidance and knowledge. Love collaborative efforts like this. God Bless Texas.
    Giddy up.

    I love seeing an expert operating on a budget. So many people want to show off with snap-on boxes and top end everything when it's really not needed for what they do.

    Hi JD. First and foremost, please thank the man for his service. I use to work around a few vets and although I don't know personally what they went through, from those who talk about it (and that's not a lot) I certainly appreciate all that they went through. (Vietnam era vets. Yes I'm that old. LOL) Secondly, I would not have put those hooks on the top of the bucket like that. I would have put them under the lip on the inside. Reason for that is I operated a Case 680 backhoe that someone had put hooks on the top of the bucket and one day a chain broke lifting up a concrete culvert pipe and hit me in the side of the face. Three broken teeth and broken cheek bone and I would never use hooks on top of bucket ever again. Putting hooks on the inside of the bucket would have kept that chain in the bucket instead of upside my face. Just a suggestion for anyone that wants to do this. Great job welding though.

    He did awesome work for you. Spent 9 years in a fab shop building small things all the way up to floating drill rigs, desalination plants, drilling mud mix plants, sand baggers and a lot of herc tanks to be flown to the oil fields.

    Don’t you love professionals showing off their skills. I weld fairly well with MIG and TIG but stick welding takes practice. You are very lucky to have great neighbors. The world revolves around skilled craftsmen such as him.

    I have to say I think you put this guy on the spot with all of your TH-cam channel pushing and your repeated thanking him for his service, but especially when you disclosed that the recent international events are causing rising anxiety/issues for this gentleman. I certainly hope you discussed these things prior to filming it and got a sincere and enthusiastic approval from him before putting him on the spot. Speaking from someone who works with veterans, has PTSD, and understands what these veterans go through, I know that that kind of behavior can cause some triggers in and of itself.
    If you did not consider these things and discuss with him ahead of time, I encourage you to consider someone's mental health and what stress you may be causing them by your approach.

      @BigTruckBigRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We talked extensively about it...several times. He was totally supportive of it.. I didn't push it at all. I also work with Vets and always want it to be something they want to discuss vs it being pryed from them.
