"Deep Purple In Rock" is the monument of a hard rock album. In my opinion, there is still no better one in this genre. At least for Deep Purple it is the artistic highlight of their career.

The difference between Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple is the source. The Sabbs and Zep had their roots in Blues. Deep Purple started from Rock 'n' Roll. But, they made it more heavy. The 1970 album "Deep Purple In Rock" is THE pivotal album in rock history. The one album that sits at the border between sixties 'pop' and seventies 'hard rock'. Nothing has ever sounded the same and rock has never sounded that heavy ever since. Enjoy.

Jesus christ dude! I've heard this song first when I was... I think 7 (now I'm 51) 😅🤘years old, in Cuba, I didn't know a word of English and never listened to rock and roll before! ... somebody just left a raggedy cassette tape from East Germany and this was the first song on it! I wish somebody had a camera to record my reaction😅!!! ... anyway I'm a huge Deep Purple fan!, and also Rainbow ofcourse 🤟 💜 🤘I'm loving your channel! I just been here for 1/2 , but imma go on a Sunday bender on your account 🤟☺🍻 ... your reactions make me feel almost as discovering this songs again... it's great man. Thank you Amigo!

Check out the live performance of "Wring that Neck" from Deep Purple In Concert 1970 BBC. Jon and Ritchie both are on top of their game in a phenomenal 19 minute improvisational jam.

The drummer, Ian Paice, I heard say, very recently, that one of his favorite songs in terms of his drumming is a song on the same album as this. It’s called “Living Wreck”. Another great one, really great, for his drumming is from the same album as Burn and Mistreated. It’s called “Lay Down, Stay Down”. I’m really looking forward to you hearing that someday. Another early excellent drumming song is “Chasing Shadows”. For great keyboards, Mr. Lord, two I would recommend are “Rat Bat Blue” and “The Bird Has Flown”. One more for keyboards, piano, “Woman from Tokyo”.

Been waiting for you to find this. When I think Deep Purple I remember my '68 El Camino with this song cranked up whilst barrel-assing down the 190 MA at 100MPH in 1985. Good times. Saw them live twice with Ritchie and once with Morse.

This is the opening track from the first studio album by this (mach 2) version of Deep Purple. In Rock is the heaviest album they ever did. Child In Time is also on this release. Still some other tracks to check out from this lineup. Woman From Tokyo, Rat Bat Blue and Hard Loving Man should be on your list.

Interesting point, the opening "Woffle" as it was called during recording of the LP was added at the end of the recording sessions because the band thought the opening riff was a little too "abrupt."
And Jon Lord actually made a mistake in the quiet section that he improvised over and made it work, rather than start all over.

Am having such a great time watching your reactions to these song the same way that I did when this music came out when I was in high school. If you like their songs I would say you have to listen to the song My Woman From Tokyo and a song called No No No . I think you'll really like them. I also think if you like Johnny and Edgar Winter you should check out Edgar Winter's White Trash their Tobacco Road Live cd and Johnny's cd's Captured Live and Johnny Winter And Live. These guys are really good live and the double leads Johnny does with Rick Derringer are just incredible. Not to be missed. I have been playing guitar for about 55yrs and I have been listening to these guys since I started playing guitar. Anyway, I really hope you'll check these songs out . I'm a child of the 60's and 70's and it was this music that the rock, blues and R&B musicians from my time period were weened on. Also if you like jazz, you might want to check out Jeff Beck, Robben Ford and Al DiMeola, ....just to name a few. Happy Listening my friend and thanks for helping to keep this music alive. All great music should live on. Peace Out.

New to your channel and love your reactions. I've noticed you have a fondness for keyboards.
You may like an old hard rock band called Uriah Heep.
Some of my favs from them are Pilgrim, Stealin'( studio versions), July Morning, Circle of Hands ( live versions from 70-72).
They have an awesome catalog like Grand Funk and Deep Purple.

Really enjoyed your video. First time spending my own money to buy an album was In Rock. First CD I ever bought was In Rock. For about a decade I use to buy In Rock every time I saw it on CD and would give it to a young rocker and tell them it was a must listen. First DP album was Burn and could not stop playing it. Then my friend gave me Stormbringer and played that to death. Fireball and the machine head could not stop playing both. When I got to In Rock they became my favorite band and still are. Deep Purple Deep Purple is the album I can't stop playing now...

They had done three albums before this with a different singer (the guy on “Hush”) and the music was decidedly less hard rock, so when they picked up this singer, Ian Gillan, (the guy who did the screams on “child in time“, also sang“highway star” and “smoke on the water” but not “Burn” and not Mistreated”, that was a different, later singer) what you heard here, song 1, side 1 with the new lineup, it was shocking because it was such a change in their sound and really one of the first ventures into this level of hard rock by anyone. 1970. But that’s the direction they wanted to go in, led by the guitar player, Ritchie Blackmore.

Probably their best album because it was .. make or break after 3 albums in 18 months. They had to make a hard hitting statement with this album.
It’s 1969, 2 new members and a recent performance of the groundbreaking “Concerto for group and orchestra” by Jon Lord (organ) but which way is this band going to go? This is Ritchie’s vision primarily … he wanted to make an unforgettable statement and the whole band got behind it … group compositions and group wig outs/seat of the pants virtuosity. The best live rock band … ever. Simple as that.

Jon Lord famously made a mistake on the organ intro and had to improvise quickly to get him out of it. With time and money and tape costs, every band was in the situation of accepting some human error if the rest of the track was smoking. You wouldn't trade away that call-and-response bit with Ritchie on guitar.

You are hearing the birth of heavy metal along with Black Sabbath. Zeppelin always more blues rock, but there is overrated because of their popularity. Not scrubs but not metal like Purple and Sabbath.
